Oh my word! What a grab from Will Jacks. This is huge for England and where momentum can start to swing back. Two new batters to the crease!

What an over! Pure drama. That’s why we love this crazy little game called Test cricket!

What an amazing catch! Jacks was there, England leaping around, are they back in this test match? Two wickets and a dropped catch, Will Jacks with something special on his right hand side.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 56.4 overs

    Smith c Jacks b Carse 61 (Aus 292-5)

The big one! From a poor drop by Ben Duckett to a brilliant grab by Will Jacks.

England have roared back into this match.

Short from Brydon Carse and Steve Smith plays an unconvincing pull shot behind square.

Jacks has a lot of ground to make up, and not much time to do it in, but he dives to his right to claim a stunning one-handed effort.

It's an easy one, how has he dropped that?

The ball was good, batting wasn't great, that's got to be taken.

  6. dropped catch

Carey dropped on noughtpublished at 56.2 overs

A slight misjudgment costs England another wicket as Ben Duckett does not react after Alex Carey gloved Brydon Carse and spills a diving effort.

Duckett must have picked that up late.

That's a big wicket for Brydon Carse and England.

The short ball plan was unsettling for Cameron Green.

Green was backing away to open up the off side, and it was clever from Carse to throw in the yorker.

England need to capitalise on this wicket and put pressure on the new batter who has to get himself in under the lights.

Bowled him! A yorker, Green stepped away, Carse has made the breakthrough.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 56.1 overs

    Green b Carse 45 (Aus 291-4)

A very much-needed wicket for England!

Decent setup from Brydon Carse who outfoxed Cameron Green with a two-card trick.

Carse followed Green backing away to leg with a bouncer the previous ball - deemed a wide - and then fires in the yorker which clatters into his stumps.

The key message to England will be to use their experience from previous games which they have been down in the first innings.

England have the experience of the big chase against India in 2022 at Edgbaston and from my experience being down in the first innings doesn't worry this England team too much.

In the second innings it would have been massive to have a bowler like Nathan Lyon on what is a good wicket now.

Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyon can just rest until the Aussies' next series. They're not needed in this series!

  12. Aus 290-3published at 56 runs

Brendon McCullum lounges across a couple of chairs on the England balcony with a pensive expression as Ben Stokes keeps Steve Smith in check with a tight over. Just a single off it.

England need to try to build some pressure here. Australia trail by 44 runs now.

Well, Bazball does like giving us entertaining cricket. Will be interesting to see how we can try to win chasing 200/300 runs in the second innings and then setting a total for the Aussies to chase.

  15. Aus 289-3published at 55 overs

Matt Prior is ranting on TNT Sports about the collective effort of England in the field (or lack of it). "They look deflated, where's this wicket going to come from?"

Some untidy wicketkeeping from Jamie Smith to a pretty average run out attempt appears to have upset the ex-England gloveman.

Gus Atkinson unable to offer much. Time for Ben Stokes to bring himself into the attack in a bid to make something happen.

This is horrible. It's Perth revisited.

It's so predictable, they don't know what to do other than play the same lengths.

They need to somehow put a glimpse of doubt in the bowlers mind. Maybe they need to look at pitching it up but they aren't even changing the field.

Well, I don’t understand why England lack aggression in the field. Sometimes you see them laughing they should be angry. We need a Merv Hughes equivalent.

I actually don't mind this as a tactic but you've got edges going left right and centre. Things haven't gone England's way today. I'm not using that as an excuse though because they haven't bowled well.

  20. Aus 283-3published at 53.3 overs

Short again from Brydon Carse and Steve Smith kind of swivels on the hook and a top edge takes down over the keeper to the boundary.

Ollie Pope, virtually at a back stop position, makes a brave diving effort to try to prevent the boundary but it flies over the rope for six.
