The straight boundaries are really short so this is the best way to face the pace of Jofra Archer. Use the pace, use the dimension of the ground to your advantage.

Jofra Archer back into the attack in the eighth over? What fun!

The first five balls are quite low-key, bringing just a leg-bye and a single and no drama.

But Shreyas Iyer finishes the over in style, initially ducking out of the way of a short ball before sticking out his bat and upper-cutting over deep third for six. He was in full crouch with his back bent when he connected with that.

  3. Ind 50-3published at 7 overs

50 up for India with a single for Shreyas Iyer.

They're well set to beat Tuesday's total of 76 but a long way off the average first-innings score at this ground of 186 that Rufus mentioned earlier (@17.33).

I think all Adil Rashid's team-mates are trying to hide any surprise that he caught that. It wasn't easy, he ran at full pelt.

Had that been during the powerplay it would have been an easy catch for short mid-wicket, but Adil Rashid had to make good ground. I was backing the ball to be honest.

Adil Rashid enters the attack and strikes with his fourth delivery.

Abhishek Sharma skies one (yep, another skied one from India) and Rashid covers plenty of ground to snag the catch off his own bowling around mid-wicket. He's grinning from ear to ear.

Is it too early to say Sooryavanshi is a one trick pony? Seems to swing at everything, if it hits great, if it doesn't he's out. Works well on flat pitches in India but won't travel well around the world. Needs to learn to adapt his game.

  9. Ind 44-2published at 6 overs

    Iyer 9 (8), Abhishek 15 (12)

Oooh nearly calamity for India! Abhishek Sharma is a couple of paces down from the non-striker's end before being turned down by his skipper and is only saved by a full length dive, blocking the ball's path to the stumps with his body.

Unruffled, Iyer drives the next delivery for four, beating a diving Jacob Bethell on the rope.

But England will be the happier of the two sides at the end of the powerplay.

Sooryavanshi having a little "struggle" early on in his international career will probably be of benefit to him, India and cricket overall. By all accounts he is a very humble lad but there can be a danger of those around him not being so.

    Roberto Smith, Hunstanton

The lad can learn from this experience, not all grounds are made for six balls. Changing your shots are important and international cricket is a different monster! Welcome and good luck!

The shots that have been played with finesse tonight have gone better than the ones that have been bludgeoned.

  13. Ind 37-2published at 5 overs

Shreyas Iyer blocks a pacy delivery from Josh Tongue into the covers. The following ball is stylishly dealt with, glanced off his legs and fine for four.

A single earlier in the over was the only other scoring shot.

That's how the India batters are reacting. When the ball is banged in, it gets up to shoulder height, a little bit higher than the IPL, and they can't resist going after it.

England have picked up two wickets from spliced pull shots.

The change of ends works for Josh Tongue! He bangs one in and Ishan Kishan, trying to pull, skies a top edge behind him where Sam Curran is in position to pouch the catch.

Kishan was almost on his way back to the dressing room before the ball had nestled in Curran's hands.

Here comes India's captain Shreyas Iyer.

Abhishek Sharma subverts his typical match up against off-spin, averaging 47 against it in T20s. Against no bowling type does he average more.

  17. Ind 32-1published at 4 overs

Lovely striking from Abhishek Sharma, driving along the floor and through the covers for four. Quite elegant.

Eight off Will Jacks' first over.

Jofra Archer will make way for Josh Tongue at the other end.

Jofra Archer now has Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s wicket twice in just 13 balls. No player has dismissed the young Indian batter more than twice in T20s.

  19. Ind 24-1published at 3 overs

A tidy over from Jofra Archer. Four runs and the wicket of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

It was a bit of a gift from the batter, needlessly going after one, but Archer had done well to cramp him for room.
