Have your say on England women this summer

One thing that cannot be overlooked today is England's fielding. There has been so much talk about whether it has improved.

In the first 20 overs or so today there was little evidence it had. There were fumbles, boundaries leaked and one particularly poor drop from Maia Bouchier.

  2. Postpublished at 14:49 BST 10 May

Tilly Corteen-Coleman seemed to fit in very nicely on her debut today.

The 18-year-old didn't do anything spectacular but that's not necessarily her thing. She was steady throughout - at no point seeming overawed by the occasion.

New Zealand collapsed poorly after Melie Kerr's soft dismissal, getting out to a full toss from Jodi Grewcock.

Just before Melie Kerr's dismissal NZ were 147-2 (34.1 overs), losing 63-8 in the next 14.3 overs.

    Thanks Tim.

It has been a day for England's three debutants...

That statistic is my cue to hand over to Matthew Henry, who will talk you through the rest of the interval and early part of England's chase.

In the Women's One-Day Cup this season the first-innings scores at Chester-le-Street have been 303-8, 311-3 and 240-8.

That would appear to suggest this total from New Zealand is slightly below par although worth noting none of those totals were chased down.

If New Zealand put on 230/240 it would put England's batters under a bit more pressure but the required run rate isn't challenging enough put pressure on from the beginning.

Extremely good bowling and discipline is needed for the wickets to happen.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 48.4 overs

Illing run out (Kemp/Bell) 0 (NZ 210 all out)

    Lauren Bell bowls.

Bree Illing is tentative setting off for a second run from the striker's end but Rosemary Mair calls her through.

Freya Kemp fields it cleanly and throws it back to Bell who whips off the bails with Illing not even in the picture.

New Zealand all out for 210.

  9. Illing survivespublished at 48.2 overs

Shaving leg stump. Bree Illing survives but England keep their review.

  10. England reviewpublished at 48.2 overs

Lauren Bell arrows one into the left-handed Bree Illing and strikes her on the back pad.

England ponder, then review, after it is given not out on field.

It might be slipping down leg.

  11. NZ 207-9published at 48 overs

Will New Zealand look to eke things out for these final two overs? Or throw caution to the wind?

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 47.3 overs

    Jess Kerr b Dean 2 (NZ 207-9)

    Wickets tumbling now.

Jess Kerr goes down on one knee and attempts to slog Charlie Dean into the leg side.

It's a fresh-air shot, though, and the ball skids through and clatters into the stumps.

  13. NZ 206-8published at 47 overs

Another slower ball from Lauren Bell and Rosemary Mair attempets to cut it but misses.

Wicketkeeper Amy Jones, stood up, whips off the bails which whips up the crowd but Mair is comfortably in her ground.

    No hat-trick for Bell.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 46.4 overs

    Patel lbw b Bell 0 (NZ 205-8)

    DRS ball-tracking shows three reds.

    Lauren Bell on a hat-trick!

  15. New Zealand reviewpublished at 46.4 overs

Nensi Patel is the new batter and gets herself in a tangle attempting to work it to leg deep in her crease.

She's hit just above the knee on the back foot by Lauren Bell and England appeal.

It's given out on field but New Zealand review it.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:12 BST 10 May

Sharp st Jones b Bell 6 (NZ 205-7)

Slower ball from Lauren Bell which deceives Izzy Sharp as she attempts to pull it.

The ball stays low and with Sharp out of her ground, Amy Jones whips off the bails.

  17. NZ 204-6published at 46 overs

Tilly Corteen-Coleman finishes with 2-49 off her 10 overs. A handy England debut for the left-arm spinner.

It's such an unusual shot for Maddy Green to play when mid-on and mid-off are out. What a strange thing to do on 88.

It was brave of Tilly Corteen-Coleman to take the pace off that.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 45.3 overs

    Green c Gibson b Corteen-Coleman 88 (NZ 203-6)

Tilly Corteen-Coleman, who has looked well and truly at home as an international cricketer, with her final over.

She picks up a wicket with her third delivery after Maddy Green attempts to go down town and is caught by Dani Gibson at deep mid-on.

TCC perhaps held a little bit of pace off that.

  20. NZ 201-5published at 45 overs

Maddy Green with deft jab into the ground off Lauren Bell and the ball races away through deep third for four.

Bell tightens up for the remainder of the over.

England will be looking to squeeze the run-rate here.
