Amy Jones loses the helmet as Lauren Bell returns to bowl, but prior to this, Jones has stood up to the stumps 24% of the time that seamers have been in action in this match, compared to just 8% for Yastika Bhatia of India.

The Indian batters seem very happy to stay in their crease and play off the back foot to negate this threat, having done so 39% of the time when facing seam, compared to 24% for the England batters.

Time for a burst of Lauren Bell before the close - she replaces Mady Villiers.

Smriti Mandhana takes a single into the covers off the seamer's first delivery, before Yastika Bhatia faces five dots.

Bell has an economy rate of 1.5 from her 10 overs today - considerably better than her 5.55 from nine in the first innings.

  3. Ind 143-1published at 38 overs

    Hmm, hint of a chance?

Sophie Ecclestone returns in place of Issy Wong, meaning England's spinners have swapped ends in the last half hour.

The spinner drops a delivery down the leg side and Amy Jones doesn't collect cleanly, with Yastika Bhatia off balance and stumbling out of her crease.

First hint of pressure and England wilt. Ever since the World Cup win in 2017 they have gone backwards despite greater resources and better infrastructure. This has been a pathetic performance, on par with the men’s Test side.

  5. Ind 142-1published at 37 overs

Mady Villiers starts with two dot balls before the India batters work her for four singles.

The four in the last over brought up the fifty partnership by the way, off 92 balls.

What is India’s target for declaring tomorrow? 400 and five sessions to bowl England out? 450 and four sessions?

It is a critical time for England at the moment, they need the wickets. The players will want to be that person, who in the dressing room people are slapping them on the back, saying 'well done'.

    • First innings = 5.8 metres
    • Second innings = 6.4 metres

Aha, it's a change of ends from Mady Villiers to replace Sophie Ecclestone.

Smriti Mandhana lumps a shot just short of mid-on before Yastika Bhatia drives her fourth four of the day through the covers.

During the drinks break, Jemimah Rodrigues, who is padded up as the next batter in, tries out some hockey close-control skills on the boundary's edge, using her bat and a spare ball.

Charlotte Edwards peers round another member of her staff, evidently intrigued.

After we get underway, Yastika Bhatia takes one single off Sophie Ecclestone's over.
