She went with her fingers pointing up but the ball was getting lower and lower and she ended up palming it into the pitch.

  2. dropped catch

Bhatia dropped on 29published at 12.4 overs

Yastika Bhatia survives a second catching opportunity!

She hits back towards Charlie Dean, who goes for the catch with hands up but probably should have had her fingers pointed the other way, seeing the ball hit the turf.

Graham Dodd: I’m sorry but Sophie Ecclestone does not deserve her place in this team. They have sussed her bowling, she seems unfit and her fielding and batting is well below standard. Bring in Tilly CC for experience.

  4. Ind 95-2published at 12 overs

    74 needed from 48 balls

A first four for Harmanpreet Kaur, lashing Linsey Smith through the covers.

A trio of singles follow, but England really need several boundary-less overs to build some pressure and ramp up the required run-rate.

I played with Gibson - she's very energetic and loves fielding drills. You can whack the ball at her all day and she'll have a great day.

  6. Ind 88-2published at 11 overs

    Need 81 from 54 balls

Dani Gibson takes us out of the drinks break.

Yastika Bhatia twice cuts her for four through past point.

  8. drinks break

    Ind 78-2published at 10 overs

    Target 169

Harmanpreet Kaur came to the crease at number four, and runs a leg bye from her first delivery.

Yastika Bhatia then cracks Sophie Ecclestone through point for four.

The players will take drinks at the half way mark - England were 71-2 at this stage.

Huge wicket for England - it was short from Freya Kemp and I thought Smriti Mandhana was in the game for a six there but Alice Capsey made no mistake.

  10. wicket

    Mandhana c Capsey b Kemp 32 (Ind 70-2)

    Four, four, out!

Smriti Mandhana sends Freya Kemp for back-to-back boundaries, through square and then mid-off, but is dismissed from the following delivery.

She lofts the England all-rounder out to the ropes at backward square leg, with a shot that has a hint of top edge, and Alice Capsey collects the catch.

I don't think she got there or judged it very well.

    Ind 61-1

    Should be gone!

Yastika Bhatia spoons Freya Kemp's ball to mid-on, where Sophie Ecclestone makes a bit of a mess of taking a catch low between her legs.

The India number three runs a single to move to 14.

Emily, Wales: The criticising of the England women's team from the current commentators is detrimental and dreadfully boring.

  15. Ind 60-1published at 8 overs

    Target 169

Charlie Dean can put a bit of a brake on an opposition innings.

Her second over goes for five singles - England could do with a few more of that nature if they're going to stand any chance of victory.

India's current run-rate is currently 9.08 runs an over.

I hear it all the time about this England team; that they're going to be braver. It's like when you go to the waterpark as a kid and you say you're going to go on all the big slides, then you don't. Go for it! Come on!

Somebody said to me earlier, somebody with lots of experience: "Why are England so timid?"

  17. Ind 55-1published at 7 overs

As has become customary, Dani Gibson takes the first over after the powerplay.

She starts with three dot balls, before Yastika Bhatia lumps her for four through long-on, bringing up India's fifty.

Bhatia scored 54 in the first T20, her first international appearance since October 2024.

It's like England are scared of making mistakes but India know mistakes will happen. Shafali Verma was angry at getting out but she was always going to get out playing that way. But what she did do was set the tone and get ahead of the rate.

Scores of 150 won't be enough when you're playing the best teams in the World Cup. England will get through to the semi-finals but I don't want them to get through by scoring 140, 150 and 160. I worry England won't be put under pressure until the semi-finals.

  19. Ind 49-1published at 6 overs

    Target 169

Linsey Smith returns to bowl the last over of the powerplay.

Smriti Mandhana sends her first delivery to the point ropes for four, timing the ball beautifully.

A couple more singles off the remainder of the over, and now the fielders go back.

A strong powerplay for India - England were 35-1 at the same stage.

  20. Ind 43-1published at 5 overs

    Now it's Sophie Ecclestone.

Smriti Mandhana balloons her opening delivery into the air on the off side - cover is out and Linsey Smith makes good ground from point to try and get underneath it, but is just short.

The opener does better later in the over, striking consecutive fours through the covers and square leg.
