WICKETpublished at 11:29 BST 9 May

    Falconer lbw b Bailey 11 (Lancs 201 v Middlesex 64-4)

That's the end of Caleb Falconer's first County Championship innings as he's pinned in front by Tom Bailey...

Falconer survived a similar appeal in Bailey's previous over but this one, slanting in to him and hitting him on the back leg, convinces the umpire.

Out comes Ryan Higgins, who took three wickets yesterday - and Middlesex could do with a few runs from him now.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:25 BST 9 May

    Brook b Bamber 40 (Warwickshire 147 v Yorkshire 137-5)

We said at the start of play that Brook and Bairstow could easily take this game away from Warwickshire and that is what had been happening in the opening stages.

The Yorkshire duo were scoring freely with the Bears bowlers struggling but what a comeback from Ethan Bamber who takes the prize wicket of Harry Brook!

The England batter tries a big drive without moving his feet and is bowled through the gate with his off stump sent flying out of the ground.

    Emphatic dismissal from Bamber!

  3. 350 for Somersetpublished at 11:25 BST 9 May

    Somerset 353-9 v Glamorgan

The visitors level up the bonus points tally from the first innings as they pass 350 runs.

They missed out by three runs in their season opener against Nottingham, and by two against Essex a game later, but no issues this morning.

Jack Leach and Jake Ball getting the job done in Cardiff.

  4. Postpublished at 11:23 BST 9 May

    Lancs 201 v Middlesex 58-3

A baptism of fire for 19-year-old Caleb Falconer, facing England's record Test wicket-taker on his senior debut, but he's coped well so far.

There have been a couple of edges from Falconer, but controlled so that they dropped short of the slips.

At the other end, Leus du Plooy is looking to go on the offensive and make inroads on the Lancashire total of 201, carving Tom Bailey nicely through the off side for a boundary.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:22 BST 9 May

    Ibrahim c R Patel b Helm 0 (Sussex 18-2 v Leics 328)

    And another goes.

Great start to day two for Leics who have a second wicket of the morning and it is Tom Helm getting the edge and Rishi Patel taking a good low catch again.

    Danial Ibrahim goes without scoring.

    Worcs 218-7 v Durham

BBC Sport cricket correspondent at New Road

A lovely, sunny day at New Road. Idyllic, really. Ben Stokes bowled 14 overs yesterday and is being used first up today. No signs of stiffness after his first run out in five months - his pace is already up.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:17 BST 9 May

    Clark c R Patel b Helm 8 (Sussex 18-1 v Leics 328)

A little bit of drift away from Tom Helm is enough to get a nick.

Rishi Patel takes a decent catch at first slip falling to his left to pick it low.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:16 BST 9 May

    Allison c Brown b Fuller 0 (Essex 53-4 v Hants 235)

A bit of lift, combined with an uncertain defensive prod forward, brings an edge and a wicket for James Fuller as Charlie Allison perishes.

An excellent start with the ball for Hants.

  9. Postpublished at 11:16 BST 9 May

    Notts 321-7 v Surrey

Fergus O'Neill finally gets Nottinghamshire up and running for today with an edge for four off Dan Worrall - and now it's a question of whether the tail can claw their way up to 350 for a second batting point.

Plenty of overs for them to get there - 16 more prior to the cut-off, just a case of whether they can keep these last two wickets intact.

Third time lucky for Jake Ball? After narrowly failing to get Somerset a third batting point on two earlier occasions this season, perhaps today's the day?

    Somerset are 344-9...

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:06 BST 9 May

    Clarke c Smith b Abbott 129 (Notts 317-8 v Surrey)

Great start to the day for Surrey as centurion Joe Clarke is out without adding to his overnight score...

Sean Abbott has Clarke caught behind, dabbing outside off stump and that's a big blow for Nottinghamshire.

Olly Stone comes out to the middle, with just Josh Tongue to come.

  12. wicket

    Cook b Fuller 2 (Essex 53-3 v Hants 235)

Off stump out of the ground. Nightwatch over.

Sam Cook is undone by a little bit of late movement and James Fuller has a second wicket.

Just the start Hants wanted – nothing is more frustrating than a nightwatchman sticking around so that is first job done.

  13. Postpublished at 11:05 BST 9 May

    Warwickshire 147 v Yorkshire 116-4

Olly Hannon-Dalby is bowling to Harry Brook to start off day two.

The England batter strokes away a boundary with the third ball of the day.

Brook will be the prize wicket the Bears are out for this morning but he is also batting alongside Jonny Bairstow who can take the game away from the hosts very easily too.

A big morning coming up for both sides.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:05 BST 9 May

    Geddes c&b Anderson 12 (Lancs 201 v Middlesex 39-3)

A wicket at Old Trafford - and inevitably, it's another for James Anderson with his first ball of the day!

Ben Geddes pops up a straightforward return catch to Anderson, who now has all three so far in this innings.

Caleb Falconer comes out for his first-class debut with Middlesex under pressure.

  15. Yorkshire's Harry Duke joins Middlesex on loanpublished at 11:02 BST 9 May

    Lancs 201 v Middlesex 38-2

News of a change to the Middlesex line-up this morning after batter-wicketkeeper Joe Cracknell was ruled out of the rest of the match due to a finger injury.

Back-up keeper Jack Davies is currently unavailable, so Harry Duke has joined the Seaxes on a two-week loan from Yorkshire and comes in as an immediate injury replacement.

Shouldn't lack any motivation against Yorkshire's Roses rivals, you would think...

  16. Play under waypublished at 11:02 BST 9 May

    Somerset 339-9 v Glamorgan

Off and running in Cardiff, and Jack Leach gets Somerset off the mark for the day, clipping away a Timm van der Gugten delivery for a couple of runs.

Although bad light restricted the opening day at Old Trafford, there was still enough time for 12 wickets to fall - and Lancashire captain Jimmy Anderson will be eyeing more on day two.

Anderson has already taken both of the Middlesex wickets to fall, with the visitors closing on 38-2 after bowling out Lancashire for 201 earlier in the day.

Derbyshire, the only team in the division yet to win this season, have a solid platform to try and change that, with Caleb Jewell unbeaten on 91 as they resume on 342-3 against Northamptonshire at Derby.

And at Bristol, it's over to Kent's batters to respond to Gloucestershire's first-innings total of 325, having reached 1-0 at stumps. James Taylor was the visitors' standout performer on day one with bowling figures of 6-52.

  20. Stokes 'showed his class' on return - Rainepublished at 10:56 BST 9 May

    Worcs 209-7 v Durham

    Ben StokesImage source, Getty Images

Friday gave us a first look of the County Championship season at Ben Stokes, as the England captain returned to the action for the first time since fracturing his cheekbone in February.

It took just eight balls for the all-rounder to strike at New Road, and he added a further wicket in Worcester before the end of a day that was disrupted by inclement weather.

Durham bowler Ben Raine said: "We are able to bring in some real quality and Stokesy looked like he was in fine fettle.

“We really appreciate how fortunate we are to have all of our England lads desperate to play for us.

"We know it isn’t like that at every county, and Ben showed his class today."

The hosts - with Ethan Brookes and Tom Taylor with bat in hand - will resume looking to pass 250 and pick up a bonus point this morning, before Stokes' return to the crease at some point later in the day for the visitors.
