    Higgins c Anderson b Balderson 32 (Lancs 201 v Middlesex 108-5)

Ryan Higgins was looking to cut loose against George Balderson, hammering his first two balls for four and six.

But Higgins misjudges the next one, which is short and skies it to mid-on, where James Anderson reverses to take the catch.

Key wicket for Lancashire, with Middlesex just starting to build a partnership.

Here comes Yorkshire's Harry Duke, making his Middlesex debut on loan as an injury replacement for Joe Cracknell.

  2. Third batting point for Nottspublished at 12:05 BST 9 May

    Notts 350-9 v Surrey

Lovely shot from Josh Tongue, clipping Jordan Clark off his pads to the boundary and that brings Nottinghamshire another bonus point - which would certainly have been their target this morning.

Surrey, of course, already have three bowling points safely stowed away after taking the ninth wicket.

Surely not even Rob Key can keep his pet project Zak Crawley in the England side for the first Test after his woeful start to the season (and if we're being honest poor First Class career)

    Alex, Somerset

Crawley has been average (at best) for years and has managed to keep his place in the England team. I doubt there’s any chance of him being dropped. Must have a great golf game.

    Andy, London

Brook making a start then giving his wicket away, Crawley out cheaply, and Jimmy still taking wickets, it's the state of English cricket in microcosm.

    Gary, London

    Lancs 201 v Middlesex 88-4

Mitch Stanley is first change for Lancashire and he immediately sends down a nasty delivery that spits off the surface and rears up at Ryan Higgins, who can only glove it away - but fortunately for the batter, it flies over the slips for two runs.

Higgins has done most of the scoring since he came in, with 20 to Leus du Plooy's 26. Middlesex aren't yet halfway to Lancashire's total, though and have plenty of work to do.

  5. Postpublished at 11:54 BST 9 May

    Sussex 55-2 v Leics

How has he survived that shout?

Ben Green raps Jack Leaning on the pad with one that straightens and appeals loud and long enough to make it crystal clear what he thinks, holding the pose arms outstretched.

Looking at that on the replays height is the only thing that has saved the Sussex all-rounder because that was right in front.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:52 BST 9 May

    O'Neill c Burns b Atkinson 41 (Notts 341-9 v Surrey)

Gus Atkinson grabs his first wicket of the match as Fergus O'Neill flashes outside off stump and Rory Burns snaffles the catch at slip.

A fine effort by O'Neill, but now it's down to Olly Stone and Josh Tongue to try and scramble nine more runs and earn Notts a third bonus point.

  7. Postpublished at 11:52 BST 9 May

    Essex 89-5 v Hants 235

Welcome to the crease Wiaan Mulder who starts off with dot four four, clipping one of his legs and then driving through mid off.

A loose end to a wicket taking over from Scott Currie.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:50 BST 9 May

    Bess c Yates b Hannon-Dalby 1 (Warwickshire 147 v Yorkshire 143-7)

    Another one!

Olly Hannon-Dalby is bowling well this season and picks up his fourth of the innings having Dom Bess caught by Rob Yates at second slip.

The wicket came after 13 dot balls as Yorkshire lose a third wicket of the morning while still behind the Bears total.

They started the day on 110-4 and looked well in the ascendancy with Harry Brook and Jonny Bairstow batting but the hosts have hit back and have all the momentum right now.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:47 BST 9 May

    Westley c Mayes b Currie 34 (Essex 80-4 v Hants 235)

Loose drive from Tom Westley and a simple catch at first slip for Ben Mayes.

The Essex captain will be kicking himself after getting himself well-set but he has just tried to force the issue against Scott Currie.

  10. Postpublished at 11:47 BST 9 May

    Notts 333-8 v Surrey

A round of applause from the Trent Bridge crowd as Olly Stone finally gets off the mark, steering Gus Atkinson for two behind square. It was Stone's 35th delivery faced and he and Fergus O'Neill have been out there together almost three quarters of an hour.

The pair have seen off Dan Worrall and Sean Abbott - but now they've got to deal with Atkinson and Jordan Clark. Surrey's seam options suddenly look a lot deeper again with Worrall's return to the side.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:45 BST 9 May

    Tribe c Vaughan b Ball 4 (Glamorgan 16-1 v Somerset 354)

    An early breakthrough!

Glamorgan claimed an early wicket yesterday, and Somerset return the favour today.

Asa Tribe prods a Jake Ball delivery into the slips and Archie Vaughan is waiting to do the rest.

Player of the round last time out Kiran Carlson joins ul Hassan in the middle. This pair put on 318 a week ago, with captain Carlson contributing 209 of those.

  12. Postpublished at 11:43 BST 9 May

    Glamorgan 12-0 v Somerset 354

Zain ul Hassan - who scored 143 against Hampshire last time out - opens with Asa Tribe for the hosts, and drives a couple of fours down the ground off of some Lewis Gregory deliveries to get this team off the mark.

  13. Crawley's struggles continuepublished at 11:42 BST 9 May

    Gloucestershire 325 v Kent 24-1

Not the Saturday morning Zak Crawley was after, and the Kent opener returns to the pavilion off the back off another disappointing stint at the crease.

The England international chops onto his stumps from outside off having put just one run on the board in Bristol.

Crawley is yet to score higher than 44 this season - hardly the form you want going into the summer.

The 28-year-old's place does seem to be very much under threat with lots of potential in-form replacements waiting in the wings.

  14. 'Too short a cameo really from the Yorkshire skipper'published at 11:40 BST 9 May

    Warwickshire 147 v Yorkshire 143-6

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

    Oh dear.

If you’re not going to use the bat you can’t really have any complaints.

Bairstow seemed to be getting going quite nicely there but 25 off 25 balls is too short a cameo really from the Yorkshire skipper.

  15. Postpublished at 11:38 BST 9 May

    Worcs 224-8 v Durham

    Stephan Shemilt
BBC Sport cricket correspondent at New Road

Ben Stokes has bowled only three overs this morning, conceding five runs but not taking a wicket. In managing his workload, it's a little easier for Durham to withdraw him from the attack now they have their first breakthrough of the day - after Ethan Brookes was removed by Callum Parkinson.

  16. 'Off stump is lying two metres behind him'published at 11:38 BST 9 May

    Warwickshire 147 v Yorkshire 143-6

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

Bairstow left it and he lost off stump and the two wickets that the Bears needed they have taken in the first half hour.

Bairstow has misjudged a ball that has cut back from Hannon-Dalby.

He played no shot at all and off stump is lying two metres behind him.

The door is a little bit open again for Warwickshire, we’ve got a very interesting game of cricket brewing up here.

    Sussex 28-2 v Leics 328

Jack Leaning gets off the mark in flamboyant fashion with an off the feet upper cut over point. It is cut off but he takes two.

Nothing like easing yourself into proceedings with some solid defence.

  18. Postpublished at 11:33 BST 9 May

    Notts 325-8 v Surrey

Surrey might have imagined the wicket of Joe Clarke would enable to them to roll Notts over quickly, but Olly Stone's mantra has been 'They shall not pass'.

Technically, many of the 24 balls Stone's faced so far have passed - but they haven't hit the stumps and he remains there, yet to score while Fergus O'Neill is stuck on 35.

Still 12 overs left for Notts to try and nudge their way up to 350.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:31 BST 9 May

    Bairstow b Hannon-Dalby 25 (Warwickshire 147 v Yorkshire 141-6)

Wow, what a turnaround at Edgbaston.

Jonny Bairstow leaves the ball and it's a bad call as it careers into his stumps - just eight balls after Harry Brook departed.

It's a real error of judgment from a very experienced player - he doesn't offer a shot and it takes his off stump out of the ground.

An excellent comeback by Warwickshire's bowlers who struggled against Brook and Bairstow early on.

The England duo both gone - both clean bowled with off stump uprooted.

  20. SOMERSET ALL OUTpublished at 11:29 BST 9 May

    Glamorgan v Somerset 354

Mason Crane skittles Jake Ball for 9 and the hosts will prepare to come out to the middle.

A very decent effort from Somerset, and one they would have taken almost exactly 24 hours ago when James Rew went for just four.
