New Zealand's lack of power with these top-order batters today has been very evident, and is a perennial issue for them.

In T20Is since the start of 2023, New Zealand in the first half of the innings (Overs 1-10) have scored only 19 sixes in 54 innings, that's six once in every 169 deliveries.

In comparison, the other teams have a significantly better six-hitting frequency with West Indies on 61, South Africa on 62, Australia 64, India 66 and England on 86.

Best per six in Overs 1-10 (T20Is since the start of 2023)

    • West Indies - 61
    • South Africa - 62
    • Australia - 64
    • India - 66
    • England - 85
    • New Zealand - 169

I still think New Zealand's kit might be the best in the tournament, however.

There's a reasonable point to make that even though New Zealand's openers put on 70, did they score quickly enough?

That second Gibson wicket was a cross-seam delivery. It might have just skidded on a touch to take the inside edge.

Remember if New Zealand lose this match then this will be the great Sophie Devine's final international innings. She gets off the mark with a single.

This is the sort of collapse that can cost you the game.

New Zealand are unravelling spectacularly here. England are all over the holders.

    Sharp b Gibson 0 (NZ 70-3)

Aaaaand another! That's three wickets in four balls without scoring a run. This time Izzy Sharp chops the ball back onto her stumps and now New Zealand, who were jumping around in celebration when Ireland beat West Indies earlier, are in all sorts.

    M Kerr b Gibson 42 (NZ 70-2)

Two in two. It's England's all-rounders doing the damage through the middle.

Having been joined by Sophie Devine, Melie Kerr attempts a scoop to the returning Dani Gibson and when she misses the ball clatters into her stumps.

New Zealand backed Izzy Gaze to open the batting over Suzie Bates because she has a better strike-rate. But this innings tonight is exactly what Bates was accused of doing - ticking along at around 100.

    Gaze c Capsey b Kemp 28 (NZ 70-1)

A first of the night for England! Izzy Gaze knew something had to give, even with those two boundaries. As Freya Kemp opts for a slower ball, the right-handed New Zealand opener only chips the ball into the hands of Alice Capsey at long-on.

Bit of a hack from Izzy Gaze but she picked the gap perfectly.

  13. NZ 68-0published at 9.3 overs

First an edge for four and then a slap to mid-wicket get Izzy Gaze moving. She had previously been going at less than a run a ball.

New Zealand are falling into the Sophie Ecclesone trap.

  15. NZ 59-0published at 9 overs

    M Kerr 41, Gaze 18

There are still only four runs in the over, largely thanks to some good work from Alice Capsey down at long-off.

She has improved dramatically in the field over the past year.

  16. Not outpublished at 19:05 BST 27 June

Having ruled out the catch the TV umpire also checks the lbw but that's going over the top too.

England lose one of their reviews.

I think it's come off the forearm.

  18. Postpublished at 19:05 BST 27 June

This looks like it has hit Gaze's forearm. That wouldn't be out, of course.

  19. England reviewpublished at 19:04 BST 27 June

As Izzy Gaze sweeps the ball loops into Amy Jones' gloves. It certainly hit something but was it bat, glove or arm?

Charlie Dean doesn't look entirely convinced as she reviews.

It looks like a belter of a pitch and the outfield is lightning quick.
