WICKETpublished at 12:19 BST 17 April

    Webster b Snater 14 (Warks 48-4 v Essex)

He doesn't get away with it this time!

Beau Webster again steps down the pitch looking to hammer the bowling, having had a lucky escape against Sam Cook.

This time his wild swing misses Shane Snater's ball entirely and it clatters into the off stump.

An odd 17-ball innings and not what's required for his team in tricky circumstances.

    Ed Barnard joins Sam Hain.

  2. Postpublished at 12:15 BST 17 April

    Hants 65-2 v Somerset

Toby Albert gives a short ball from Lewis Gregory the full kitchen sink and top edges one for four, moving onto 35 off 60 deliveries.

  3. Postpublished at 12:13 BST 17 April

    Gloucs 43-1 v Lancs

A good bit of running between the wicket sees Gloucestershire grab three as Ben Charlesworth moves onto 20 for the hosts.

Lancashire skipper James Anderson is down one bowler after Ajeet Singh Dale's injury earlier and will have to have a rethink as Paul Coughlin starts his seventh over of his spell.

  4. 50 runs

50 up for Northantspublished at 12:13 BST 17 April

    Northants v Middlesex 59-3

Leus Du Plooy picks up his third boundary to bring up the Northants fifty in the 15th over.

He then decides to put the hammer down, plundering two more fours off Luke Procter's second over to move to 30.

Northants will still be pleased with this start but will also recognise the danger Du Plooy can pose.

Somerset listeners will be relieved to hear that Lewis Gregory is looking pretty fit. He's running in nicely, bowling in at a decent pace. James Rew is standing quite a long way back so he's showing no signs of his chest injury that he sustained almost immediately in the Notts game.

  6. Postpublished at 12:09 BST 17 April

    Warks 43-3 v Essex

Sam Cook returns to the Essex attack after a decent but luckless opening burst.

He has other things on his mind today, though, as he steps in as skipper in place of Tom Westley who misses out through injury.

    What on earth was that?!

Beau Webster decides to dance down the wicket and aims a wild swing at Cook. All he gets is an inside edge down to fine leg for a very fortunate boundary. that could so easily have cleaned him up.

He then picks up a second boundary, this time in more conventional style, as he opens the face and guides him for four more to move to 13.

  8. 'Vaughan useful for Somerset'published at 12:02 BST 17 April

    Hants 51-2 Somerset

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset will be hoping there's a bit of turn in this pitch because they haven't just got Jack Leach but Archie Vaughan who bowls his off-breaks. Predominantly a batsman but it's a very useful, extra string to his bow.

  9. Postpublished at 12:02 BST 17 April

    Northants v Middlesex 38-3

Skipper Luke Procter turns his arm over for the first time as he looks to open up further cracks in the Middlesex batting.

Leus Du Plooy guides his fifth ball down to deep third and picks up three to move to 17 off 30 balls.

You feel a lot of Middlesex's hopes of making a decent first innings score will fall on his shoulders.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:00 BST 17 April

    Prest c J Rew b Overton 17 (Hants 51-2 v Somerset)

Craig Overton celebrates a wicketImage source, Getty Images

The classic curse of the commentator!

Good ball from Craig Overton, who gets Tom Prest to push at one outside of off stump, and he is caught behind by James Rew who makes a regulation take.

Not a great shot from Prest. Overton dangled the carrot and it's been gobbled up.

  11. 50 runs

    50published at 11:59 BST 17 April

    Hants 51-1 v Somerset

    50-up for Hampshire!

They have recovered well since losing that opening wicket.

  12. Postpublished at 11:58 BST 17 April

    Gloucs 34-1 v Lancs

This is an absolute beauty from George Balderson.

Right through the gate, beating Ollie Price all ends up, but it somehow misses the top of off stump, as well as wicket-keeper Matty Hurst, and goes down as four byes.

  13. Postpublished at 11:55 BST 17 April

    Hants 45-1 v Somerset

Not sure this was the change of bowling that Somerset captain Lewis Gregory had in mind.

Jack Leach has gone for 13 runs in his first eight deliveries so far.

  14. 'Ogborne a good prospect'published at 11:53 BST 17 April

He looks a good prospect Ogborne. I saw a little bit of him on some highlights the other day and one thing that struck me is he goes full. He's not a bowler who likes to bowl that pretty length which you've got to accept the risk versus reward. He will go for boundaries but equally he'll catch a lot of people off-guard.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:50 BST 17 April

    Mousley lbw b Porter 10 (Warks 25-3 v Essex)

    Jamie PorterImage source, Getty Images

First bowling change of the match as Shane Snater replaces Sam Cook and his first over goes for three runs.

But it's all happening at the other end as Jamie Porter takes a third!

He thuds an inswinger into the front pad of Dan Mousley, knee-high and the finger goes up.

Mousley is not happy with the verdict but Beau Webster steps in to take his place.

Essex really making the most of that toss.

  16. 6 runs

Postpublished at 11:49 BST 17 April

    Hants 36-1 v Somerset

Wonderful use of his feet by Tom Prest who comes dancing down to meet Jack Leach and sends the ball straight back over his head for the first six of the match.

  17. Postpublished at 11:47 BST 17 April

    Hants 30-1 v Somerset

After 11 overs, we will see a bit of spin at the Utilita Bowl.

Jack Leach is on, and with his first ball, has a big shout for lbw but the umpire shakes his head.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:44 BST 17 April

    Robson c Harrison b Conway 13 (Northants v Middlesex 20-3)

More trouble for Middlesex as they lose a third in the ninth over of the day.

Sam Robson prods forward to Harry Conway who gets a little extra bounce and it flies up off the shoulder of his blade.

First slipper Calvin Harrison takes a smart catch at head height.

Ben Geddes joins his skipper Leus Du Plooy

    BBC Sport at Utilita Bowl

Watching the replays that was a brilliant catch by Lewis Gregory who had to reach well above his head to claim the ball from Nick Gubbins.

We continue in the bright Southampton sunshine as Tom Prest heads out to join Toby Albert in the middle, a bit of a breeze has started to pick up but the conditions as a whole are gorgeous here.

  20. 'Good start for Essex'published at 11:42 BST 17 April

    Warks 21-2 Essex

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

It's been a good start for Essex and hard work for Warwickshire. A couple of boundaries hit by Dan Mousley but noone's looked comfortable at the crease.
