Australia have been trying to get on with it. Travis Head has swatted at a few but hasn't nicked any, as he hasn't all summer.

  2. Aus 28-0published at 6 overs

    Target 160 - need 132 runs

Wicketkeeper Jamie Smith, Ben Stokes (stood at first slip), and Josh Tongue briefly go up and then simultaneously throw their hands behind their heads. A clear edge onto Jake Weatherald's pads, who is looking a bit laboured early in his innings.

So far, this chase isn't being conducted with the same ferocity as in Perth.

England needed to get a couple of wickets early and that has not been the case.

  4. Aus 27-0published at 5 overs

    Target 160 - need 133 runs

Another three runs ticked off with some Travis Head flashing and missing in between. He's yet to get his eye in.

To not have one score of over 400 is a key reason England have lost this series. Some good fight from the lower order and excellent innings from Jacob Bethell. What is annoying even here though is if Will Jacks hadn't shot himself in the foot and Jamie Smith run himself out, we could have got 400 in this innings. Australia would have still won easily, but we would have had a more defendable score. The same goes for first innings. If Harry Brook doesn't play at one he didn't need to and Smith thrown his wicket away we could have got a score significantly above 400 in the first innings. Add to that some dreadful buffet bowling from Brydon Carse and Matthew Potts in the first innings. Potts you can defend as little cricket, but Carse been like this throughout the series and some bizarre tactics like far too much short bowling then length bowling again we could have been more competitive. It's in those details in all but one of those games when we've had the chance to put ourselves in a better position why we've lost this series and conversely not only are Australia a better team and far more prepared, they always find another level when it matters and seize the key moments. They don't throw away positions when they are on top. Hopefully this England team can learn from them and batting wise the likes of Smith and Brook don't squander their undoubted talent.`

  6. Aus 24-0published at 4 overs

    Target 160 - need 136 runs

Travis Head jams his feet together and drives Josh Tongue down the ground but can only take a single, with Matthew Potts making a tumbling stop at mid-on.

He slashes wildly without success at a couple of deliveries later in the over before returning to sensible batting, collecting a single through point to retain the strike.

England need to try and get some wind up the Australia players.

They need to get Will Jacks on but it is a risk because he is expensive.

Tidier from Brydon Carse. Two singles chipped off Australia's target.

Sat in front of a log fire in the UK listening to the commentary and looking for a glimmer of a hope for England. If all the Australian batters in this innings equal their worst score in the current series, could England win?

Australia are not going to mess around here. They are going to try and make a big dent in this target.

  11. Aus 18-0published at 2 overs

    Target 160 - need 142 runs

First ball of Josh Tongue's over... noisy lbw appeals against Jake Weatherald. Seriously? The umpire says no and this time there is no review.

Weatherald runs a couple of twos and then opens his body to pummel a short, wide delivery through the covers for four.

  13. Aus 10-0published at 1 over

    Target 160 - need 150 runs

Travis Head finishes a drama-packed over with a driven four through mid-on.

If every over plays out like that, it'll be an exhausting chase.

Josh Tongue will share the new ball.

That was a bit of a shambles. The ball raced to the boundary, it clearly hit Travis head's bat.

  15. Not out - Aus 6-0published at 0.5 overs

It's come off Travis Head's bat. Not out, leg-byes overturned, and England lose a review.

This is remarkable. England were not going to review it, I don't think, until they saw the leg-byes.

  17. England reviewpublished at 0.5 overs

Oh, it's all happening. England appeal again for lbw against Travis Head as the ball races away to the rope.

The umpire says no and signals four leg-byes. England say "leg-byes?" Let's have a look!

  18. Not out - Aus 0-0published at 0.1 overs

Travis Head turned, stretched and got his bat down just in time. Australian hearts would have been racing if he'd been dismissed first ball.

There is all sorts going on first ball. No-one looks particularly convinced about the run out.

Drama off the first ball! A huge appeal for lbw from Brydon Carse but England opt against the review.

However, the umpires are checking for a run-out at the striker's end. Gosh.
