I love cricket. Why can’t England play the situation. This is such a waste of talent. Great opportunity to let the likes of Richard Gould and Rob Key quietly leave the scene.

    Tim, Leeds

Quite how a new management team will reveal untapped talent remains to be seen.

    Mark, Shropshire

If England lose at home to New Zealand I am expecting somebody to resign. This farce cannot go on surely.

    Ray, York

  2. NZ 145-3published at 47 overs

Josh Tongue replaces Jofra Archer in England's first change of the day.

The Nottinghamshire seamer has figures of 0-28 from five overs yesterday.

He goes for four runs here, with Daryl Mitchell fencing at a delivery and edging wide of the cordon.

Still very early, but the pitch on day four has been behaving unpredictably in the first 10 overs bowled. The PitchViz bounce inconsistency rating for this session is currently at 9.4, the highest for any session in this match.

No previous session has even recorded a rating of 6.0. It is hard to bat at the moment.

(PitchViz Bounce Inconsistency - On a scale of 1-10, 1 = very consistent).

This partnership of Mitchell and Ravindra is frustrating England. Ben Stokes it getting more and more animated.

  5. NZ 141-3published at 46 overs

One single off Ben Stokes' latest over, with Daryl Mitchell sending a shot square.

Jamie Smith is still standing up to the England captain.

England really lack a Broad-Anderson pair. Our bowling group has been awful since. No one can move this ball well at all.

    Josh, Telford

With the bowling line-up England have now, a poor performance with the bat means we're pretty much guaranteed to lose. We simply no longer have any top-class Test bowlers to dig us out of a tough spot.

    James, Kettering

If New Zealand thrash England then goodbye to Brendon McCullum and Rob Key. Bring in Michael Vaughan, James Anderson and Stuart Broad as management. Harry Brook as captain, Joe Root as vice to steady the ship. Ben Stokes as coach then build for next Ashes.

Ravindra has been nice and fluid and positive batting here today.

Jofra Archer concedes a boundary for the first time today, with Rachin Ravindra whipping his first delivery away off the pads.

That's five overs this morning for Archer, we'll see if he gets another...

That was another brutal delivery from Ben Stokes and you know it is a hard one when the batter takes their hand off the bat straight away. Mitchell is getting peppered out there.

  10. NZ 134-3published at 44 overs

For the third time this morning Daryl Mitchell is struck on the upper body.

It is plain that the current English cricket set up is not doing the business. However, suppose, hypothetically, the current coach and cricket director were removed at noon on Tuesday, who would replace them? One name that springs to mind is Paul Farbrace.

    Paul, Paredes de Coura, Portugal

England are simply not a serious unit.

    Ian, Southampton

Daryl Mitchell showing how to grind it out here with the ball doing plenty. England would be swinging from the hip!

    Nick, Fleetwood

  12. NZ 133-3published at 43 overs

Consecutive maidens for Jofra Archer as Daryl Mitchell again can't get him away.

It has got sunnier at Trent Bridge after the session started in conditions that were a touch overcast.

A bit of wind is rippling the batters' shirts.

It has been a spicy old start like we expected. England will probably feel like they are a little unlucky in phases but the pitch is definitely doing a bit, like we thought it would.

  15. NZ 133-3published at 42 overs

Another ball that kept low from Ben Stokes, firing the ball under the bat of Rachin Ravindra.

Stokes then sits up a weak bouncer that Ravindra pulls away for the first four of the day.

Jofra Archer has used more short balls in this innings than he did in the first innings at this point.

In the first 10 overs of the previous innings, he bowled 45% of his deliveries on a good length and 34% short of a length.

However, in this innings so far, he has bowled 38% of his deliveries on good length and 43% on the shorter side.

  17. NZ 127-3published at 41 overs

A maiden for Jofra Archer, keeping Daryl Mitchell from scoring.

A reminder that the highest fourth-innings run chase in a Test match at Trent Bridge came in June 2022, in the early days of Bazball, when England achieved a target of 299 for loss of five wickets.

England's next highest at the ground in Nottingham also came against the Kiws when they chased down 284 to clinch a four-wicket win in June 2004.

The late Graham Thorpe's 104 not out in the second innings of the latter of those matches was key to the win.

After plenty of cooling spray, Daryl Mitchell faces Ben Stokes' last delivery and knocks it into the covers for a single.

Jamie Smith did stick it out standing up.

Meanwhile, in the injury break, Joe Root and Harry Brook entertained the crowd by picking up Jacob Bethell, who was lying down, by his arms and legs and swinging him around.

This pitch, which looked so flat on day one and two, is certainly doing things now.

Ben Stokes' delivery rears up and jags in, hitting Daryl Mitchell on his bare forearm.

    Very painful.

Meanwhile Jamie Smith, who came up behind the stumps after Stokes' second ball, might want to reconsider his decision.
