A great innings. Tom Latham was the more organised batter throughout the day. Nice and compact. He's played some lovely drives, pulls and cuts. Some reverse sweeps towards the end. He's set the game up for his side. Will New Zealand carry on like this or will England find a breakthrough?

    WE HAVE A WICKET!

A tired-looking shot from Tom Latham who waggles his bat at one from Ben Stokes outside off stump.

Latham gets a standing ovation from the Trent Bridge crowd.

  4. NZ 316-0published at 72 overs

To answer Norman's question. It has happened in Test cricket but only for tactical reasons.

    Thanks, Mike.

Whisper it quietly...but could Brian Lara's 400 be under threat here?

Tomorrow is set to be another scorcher, England's attack is tiring, and this pitch is as flat as a pancake.

Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer are yet to bowl in this session - we're still 10 overs from the new ball.

A couple of singles to start the over, then a reverse padel sweep for two from Devon Conway.

Here's Timothy Abraham to take you through the rest of today.

Absolutely pathetic from England, might as well all go for a pint tonight. Our attack is one dimensional and just nowhere near good enough. Honestly never been so deflated watching this shower

10 runs from the over as Jacob Bethell replaces Gus Atkinson.

A Devon Conway single into the covers brings up New Zealand's 300 before Tom Latham reverse sweeps the final ball of the over through third for four.

It is falling apart for England really.

  14. NZ 296-0published at 67 overs

Four runs off Shoaib Bashir's 22nd over - it may not be going his way in this session, but he's done a big shift having been introduced early in the innings.

  15. NZ 292-0published at 66 overs

Got to be honest, David, I have no idea what cheese pie and cake means, but I get your jist.

Back at it after drinks - Tom Latham drives Gus Atkinson through the covers for four.

Losing the toss was a big mistake, since then it's just cheese pie and cake.

Tom Latham and Devon Conway have just broken an almost 100-year-old record - this is now the highest opening partnership for New Zealand against England in Tests.

There are only two first-wicket higher partnerships made by a Kiwi opening pair against any opposition.

Highest opening stands by New Zealand:

    • 387 - Jarvis & Turner vs West Indies, 1972
    • 323 - Conway & Latham vs West Indies, 2025
    • 288* - Conway & Latham vs England, 2026 (today)
    • 276 - Dempster & Mills vs England, 1930
  18. drinks break

    NZ 288-0published at 65 overs

That's the only scoring shot of the over as we reach the drinks break.

New Zealand have added 75 runs from 11 overs since tea.

25 of them are Tom Latham's, 50 are Devon Conway's.

Shoaib Bashir had 0-54 off 16 overs in the first two sessions, he's now 0-93 off 21.

  19. 6 runs

    NZ 288-0published at 64.1 overs

Devon Conway really enjoyed his tea!

The opener has really taken it up a notch since the interval, and he adds his third six since the break by lumping Shoaib Bashir over long-on.

  20. NZ 282-0published at 64 overs

    Pulled for four!

Two balls later and Tom Latham gets Gus Atkinson away, making this New Zealand's highest partnership when facing England.
