  1. Glamorgan target third straight winpublished at 10:45 BST 18 May

A penny for Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson's thoughts this morning as he seeks to lead his side to a third consecutive County Championship Division One victory at the expense of hosts Warwickshire.

Glamorgan have a second innings lead of 300 at the beginning of the fourth day. They still have five wickets in hand and the experienced Colin Ingram returns to the middle this morning not out on 80.

The intrigue lies with what Glamorgan will be comfortable enough defending, ensuring the match is out of Warwickshire's reach but still with enough time and overs remaining to knock over 10 wickets - that is if the Bears cannot claim five quick wickets sharpish themselves and force the issue.

It is an age-old third innings dilemma.

All of the above, though, will also depend on the weather playing ball and affording these two sides an opportunity to play out what could be an enticing day of cricket.

  2. 'No need to rev up Sonny'published at 10:42 BST 18 May

    Hampshire 214 & 82-4 v Nottinghamshire 229

Hampshire bowling coach Shane Burger praised the "energy" and "skill-set" of paceman Sonny Baker following his 5-45 on day three against Notts at the Utilita Bowl.

Baker has been named in England's Test squad to face New Zealand and Burger said: "With Sonny, you don't have to rev him up too much. It is brilliant to have someone like that.

"He has shown in the last year or so that his skill level has gone up. He can swing it when required, he can nip it, he can go through the gears and bowl at a high pace. He deserves the England call-up."

Despite Baker's efforts, the home side are just 64 ahead with four wickets gone against a Notts attack including soon-to-be England team-mate Josh Tongue.

  3. The chase is on (weather permitting)published at 10:39 BST 18 May

Northants 144-5 - target 249 to beat Gloucs

We've had rain in Bristol this morning, though not particularly heavy.

Disruption is very likely but even a session of play may be enough to conclude this finely-poised contest.

The hybrid pitch was offering plenty of help to the bowling attacks of both teams, though there was a hint that the seam and steepling bounce on a length is not quite so pronounced now.

We've certainly seen some late swing though. Check out the superb in-swinger Matt Taylor unleashed to bowl Luke Procter yesterday.

James Bracey put on 100 with captain Cam Bancroft, reviving the hosts from the depths of 31-5, while Northants pair Nathan McSweeney and James Sales (28) put on 67 for the fifth wicket.

McSweeney is still there unbeaten on 41.

  4. Derbyshire hope for 'low chase' at Lord'spublished at 10:36 BST 18 May

Derbyshire captain Wayne Madsen has his sights firmly set on a victory at Lord's despite resistance from Middlesex on day three.

Leus du Plooy made 95 against his former county but the home side are only 79 ahead with just two wickets remaining.

"As a bowling unit, I thought the guys were fantastic – we were relentless, we gave it everything and got the wickets we deserved," Madsen said.

"We knew there would be times when the ball got a bit soft and didn’t do as much, but I think the first innings we had has set us up in a nice position to close their innings off and hopefully chase down a pretty low score."

The only concern for Derbyshire is Shoaib Bashir, who took a blow on the thumb in taking the catch to deny du Plooy a hundred. "The medical staff will assess it overnight and see if there’s any swelling," Madsen added.

  5. Can we expect a dry day?published at 10:34 BST 18 May

BBC Weather forecaster Stav Danaos says it's going to be a mix of sunshine and scattered showers today. The sunshine "will be quite limited" but it will be a "little bit warmer than Sunday".

Could be worse. Let's hope we don't get too many hold-ups in our eight surviving County Championship games.

Day 28 of the opening block of seven rounds of County Championship matches - the last one.

After today, there will be a red-ball break until Surrey play Hampshire on 7 June so let's hope for some exciting cricket before we all - players and text commentators alike (we would say 'BBC local radio voices' too but they'll be doing the Blast on Friday) - take a breather.

Essex wrapped up a three-day victory yesterday following a dramatic Leicestershire collapse in their second innings, but who will be joining them in the winner's circle?

Only one way to find out. Welcome to our coverage of the final day in eight games. Play starts at 11:00.
