Australia's session. No question about that.

I've no idea where England go from here. Maybe Timothy Abraham has a wicket up his sleeve?

Nightmare session for the England bowlers. They started well with a bit of swing but not being able to get Michael Neser out took the stuffing out of them.

A satisfactory morning for Australia. They are forging ahead in this game.

Nine runs off the final over of the session, including an edged four for Travis Head.

He's flying on 162 off 160, although he was saved on 121 by a drop from Will Jacks. Steve Smith has 16 (39).

    Australia trail by 103 runs.

England have caught terribly this series. I cannot put my finger on why because they are good catchers.

But they have shelled so many.

  6. dropped catch

Head dropped on 156published at 64.2 overs

    Aus 274-3

Time for spin! Will Jacks enters the attack for the final over of the session.

He nearly bags a wicket off his second delivery, Travis Head hammering the ball straight back to him. However, he can only parry the caught and bowled chance with his left hand.

The umpire took evasive action behind the stumps and hit the deck.

  8. dropped catch

Smith dropped on 12published at 64 overs

    Aus 272-3

Ohhhh that was a chance! Zak Crawley, diving to his left at leg slip, gets a hand to a squirty edge from Steve Smith but puts it down.

A tough chance but probably another drop.

Smith takes a single. Four off the over.

Is Matthew Potts missing his length or is this a planned strategy? Mystified what he's trying to do.

These are definitely not 'Happy Days' for poor old Pottsie.

Travis Head looked a bit tired running that single. Another chance missed by England really, he would have been gone.

  11. Aus 268-3published at 63 overs

Matthew Potts is unlucky not to have the wicket of Steve Smith there, getting movement off the seam and beating the skipper's bat.

The following delivery brings a run-out scare for Travis Head, who was a little slow to get going. A direct hit from Ben Duckett would have been curtains. It was a tight single for Smith to call through.

A better over for England but no wicket.

  12. Aus 266-3published at 62 overs

Another six runs knocked off England's lead.

Australia trail by 118 runs with seven wickets in hand.

Travis Head will be thinking that is one of the easiest 150 scores he has ever achieved.

Travis Head has played so well. He has got such a good eye but has been helped by some erratic bowling.

    Scoring. Runs. For. Fun.

A shorter delivery from Josh Tongue is guided over the slips and away to the rope.

Head has 153 off 152 balls, including 23 fours and one six.

He was dropped by Will Jacks on 121 and is making England pay.

I don't blame Matt Potts one bit for his poor start. He's in a foreign country, in one of the most iconic grounds in the world, against a fine Australian team, and he's played no cricket at all up to this point. Those 72 runs off 8 overs should be in the book next to E.C.B. (or R. Key).

    Chris, Coventry.

Looking at poor Matthew Potts today, I can't help but wonder if England had played warm-up games, he may not had to wait five weeks to get a game. Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson would've most likely got injured in those warm-up games.

The rest of the over is quiet. Travis Head takes a single and Steve Smith defends four balls.

That has gone rows back! Matthew Potts didn't even look to see where it had gone.

  19. 6 runs

    Aus 259-3published at 60.1 overs

Travis Head frees his arms and pulls hard for six. Matthew Potts frowns as he walks back to his mark.

  20. Aus 253-3published at 60 overs

    Head 142, Smith 8

Steve Smith picks up four through point to take Australia's total beyond 250.

Josh Tongue's next delivery rears up off the surface and beats Smith's bat.
