  1. Aus 311-4published at 74.2 overs

Ben Stokes keeps it full to Steve Smith, looking to draw him across his stumps, with his first three balls.

Here's how Jacob Bethell bagged his first Ashes wicket in the form of Travis Head.

Jacob Bethell is doing a good job here. He has managed to stem the flow of runs well.

England are creeping themselves back into the game.

  3. Aus 311-4published at 74 overs

    Trail by 73 runs

There's a hint of turn for Jacob Bethell. A modicum. Three singles off the over.

Have to wonder about not picking Shoaib Bashir again given they look set for long stint in the field here.

There are not many Ashes series where Steve Smith does not get a century but he is yet to so far.

  5. Aus 308-4published at 73 overs

A single for Steve Smith off Ben Stokes before some authentic blockage by Usman Khawaja. England trying to apply some pressure, but these two look like they want to get themselves set for the long haul.

Must admit I was questioning Bethell coming on to bowl whilst sitting having my Noodles for breakfast in Taipei... I (and I assume many other fans) feel a little silly now!

  8. Aus 307-4published at 72 overs

Jacob Bethell continues. He dangles the carrot ever so slightly by giving a few balls a bit of air to Smith but the Aussie batter does not bite.

England manage 10 dots in a row before Smith pokes a single.

If England can grab another one here, you never know what can happen to Australia's middle order.

Cameron Green has not scored many runs in this series. Alex Carey has been consistent but you never know.

  10. Aus 306-4published at 71 overs

A cigarette paper between Travis Head and Mitchell Starc for me, Paul. I'd probably give it Starc although that Head innings at Perth set things up.

Steve Smith is given a short ball by Ben Stokes and once again steers it square on the pull.

Sitting on a beach in Malaysia and thoughts turn to who would be the player of the series (now that Travis is out first Innings..) - Starc or Head... or Carey even?

    Paul in Pangkor Laut

  12. Aus 301-4published at 70 overs

Left-arm spinner Jacob Bethell eyeing another left-handed batter in Usman Khawaja but the veteran is not surrendering anything cheaply here. Uzzie will want to make this count given it could be his last innings for Australia.

Ben Stokes is making things happen again.

I am starting to feel sorry for him, however, he cannot do everything. How many overs is too many overs for him?

  14. Aus 299-4published at 69 overs

Jacob Bethell's fourth Test wicket in his sixth match, by the way.

Steve Smith edges the first delivery of Ben Stokes' second over wide of the England slip cordon. Stokes throws his head back in frustration.

Usman Khawaja is off the mark with a tickle off his legs before Smith shovels Stokes through square for another boundary towards the end of the over.

As a left-arm spinner, you are wanting the batsman to sweep you off the stumps.

This shows the need for a point of difference in a bowling attack; you still need spinners in the game.

  16. Aus 288-4published at 68 overs

Usman Khawaja is afforded an equally generous ovation as he comes to the crease in what is his final Test match before retirement.

Khawaja sees off the rest of Jacob Bethell's over without scoring.

A first Ashes wicket for Jacob Bethell! A good decision from the umpire.

Travis Head walks off to a standing ovation - a terrific innings.

    Three reds. Gone!

It was pushed through by Jacob Bethell and Travis Head probably reviewed that more in hope than expectation.
