Ishan Kishan collects back-to-back boundaries off Abrar Ahmed and banks a half-century off 27 balls and a strike rate of 185.

A delicate dab moves Kishan on to 46 before a slog down the ground goes over Abrar's head.

  3. Ind 52-1published at 6 overs

A brief drinks break at then of the powerplay.

Pakistan picked up a wicket in their first over, but it's been all India since then.

  4. Ind 52-1published at 6 overs

Tossed up by Saim Ayub and Ishan Kishan looks to go over the top but does not get the full meat of the bat behind it. The imposing figure of Shaheen Shah Afridi lurks at mid-on but cannot quite get a hand on it.

Abrar Ahmed the new bowler and his first ball disappears over the boundary for six, after a brutish slog sweep from Ishan Kishan down on knee.

Later in the over Kishan hammers the leg-spinner through cover for four.

  7. Ind 30-1published at 4 overs

A glimmer of a run-out chance after Ishan Kishan flicks to mid-on, but the India opener is able to make his ground at the non-striker's end despite a direct shy at the stumps from Shaheen Shah Afridi.

  8. ouch!

    Ind 29-1published at 3.5 overs

A full blooded straight pull from Ishan Kishan but it strikes Tilak Varma in the non-striker's end.

Ouch. That will have left a hearty bruise.

Varma does not show a flicker of pain, though.

  9. Ind 29-1published at 3.3 overs

More spin as Saim Ayub comes into the attack.

Ishan Kishan rocks on to the back foot to his third ball and mullers it the square-leg boundary for four.

This is the danger as a spinner. Salman Ali Agha only went for one in his first over so I can see why he's bowling again but the third and fourth overs are so hard to bowl as a spinner in the powerplay.

Ishan Kishan continues his assault as he thumps the first ball of Salman Agha's second over the top for four more. The Pakistan skipper reins him back in the with the remainder of the over, though.

Kishan was a little fortunate a swish across the line and equally unconvincing slice down the ground both land safe.

  12. Ind 16-1published at 2 overs

India make hay against Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Tilak Varma makes it 15 runs off the over, albeit with a slightly streaky edge which flashes through the vacant third region for four.

  13. 6 runs

    Ind 11-1published at 1.2 overs

Short from Shaheen Shah Afridi and Ishan Kishan hammers it from six over the square-leg boundary.

Kishan then flashes at Shaheen's next delivery and an inside edge runs away for four more.

That's Abhishek Sharma's second duck of the World Cup. He didn't even play in the previous game.

He hasn't had much time in the middle in this tournament.

    Clothed!

Pakistan Salman Agha strikes with the final ball of the first over.

A tight over from Salman and it skids on to Abhishek Sharma who has a bit of a filthy swat across the line and it's up chipping it into the hands of Shaheen Shah Afridi at mid-on.

    The perfect start from Pakistan.

There was no handshake between India captain Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistan counterpart Salman Agha at the toss.

At one point, of course, it looked this game - the most lucrative in cricket - may not happen.

It had been in doubt since Pakistan's government advised its team not to take the field against their rivals

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that decision was made to "support" Bangladesh, who had a request for their matches to be moved out of India rejected. They subsequently pulled out of the tournament.

But, after a week-long stand-off and statements from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Bangladesh board (BCB), the Pakistan government last Monday directed the team to take the field.
