It went so quickly and just sailed away. The reaction was pretty much delayed by pretty much everyone in the venue. It was flat, hard and went fizzing into the stands. The timing was immaculate.

Axar Patel curtails the runfest with some tidy left-arm spin from his first five balls - just three runs from them.

However, Brook smears a flat six over extra cover.

    Mesmerising strokeplay.

Good thinking from Jus Buttler to scoop early against Prasidh Krishna. In the powerplay, 66% of Prasidh's deliveries were bowled on back of length, he is one of the safest bowlers to play the scoop shot. Once Buttler played it, Prasidh overcorrected by going fuller and got hit for another six in the over.

Spin for India as Axar Patel is brought into the attack following Harry Brook's assault on the fences.

That is one of the biggest hits I've seen here in a long time.

Harry Brook with a couple of monster sixes off Prince Yadav

The England skipper hammers the first absolute miles into the stands over deep mid-wicket.

Brook then hoicks the Indian seamer behind square for another maximum.

The legs were going all over the place. It doesn't look good. It's not particularly dignified. It will certianly not provide an opportunity for Shivam Dube to go on Strictly Come Dancing anytime soon. I dread to think what Craig Revel Horwood would have made of that.

Prince Yadav is tossed the ball as India bid to temper this aggression from England.

Harry Brook slices his second delivery high down behind short third.

Shiva Dube ends up swirling around in a circle but fails to get a hand on what was a good catching chance.

The hotel is around six miles away so it must have been some remarkable traffic to delay them by that much.

It's one of those days where six miles can take an hour.

  10. Eng 44-1published at 5 overs

A yorker from Arshdeep Singh as he attempts to stem the flow of runs from the bat of Jos Buttler but the England opener digs it out.

Buttler clips the final ball of the over for a single to pinch the strike again.

In this form, you can't blame him.

He came to meet that fractionally and made it a length ball. The umpires are checking the ball hasn't been damaged. If he carries on like this, it will be damaged.

    Wowzers!

A reverse ramp from Jos Buttler lifts Arshdeep Singh over the vacant third region for four.

    Incredible innovation.

Buttler follows it up with a six back over long on after a little skip down the pitch.

Jos Buttler last scored a T20I fifty in September 2025 against South Africa. Since then, he has now gone 18 innings without a fifty. If he fails to score a fifty today, it will mark five consecutive series without a fifty, including this year's T20 World Cup.

  14. Eng 29-1published at 4 overs

After the early loss of Phil Salt, England have started to get a momentum.

Still a few empty seats in Southampton.

Jos Buttler swats a pull down to deep square but the sweeper cuts it off.

That is trademark Jos Buttler. He has such an awareness of where the fielders are. He plays it so well. To any length, to any bowler and on any pitch.

It's a lovely sound off the bat. He knew he got hold of that one.

Fetch that! Prasidh Krishna is effortlessly plinked over long-on for six by Jos Buttler.

Classic strong wrists from the England opener.

  18. Eng 21-1published at 3.1 overs

It's a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon and Jos Buttler pulls out the ramp shot.

The England batter casually strolls across his stumps to Prasidh Krishna and helps it on its way over fine leg for four.

Buttler smirks to himself like the cat who got the cream.

Good game awareness from Jos Buttler. You feel he needs to get 10 or 15 runs and get himself going in this series.

  20. Eng 17-1published at 3 overs

Arshdeep Singh continues. Jos Buttler manages to work his third delivery for fine for a single to bring Harry Brook on strike.

Still swinging for Arshdeep and Brook clips it off his heels for a single.

Buttler then punishes one dropped shot by the India left-arm quick by pulling it for four in front of square before pinching the strike.
