That's all from us after England suffered a 270-run thrashing by India in the one-off women's Test at Lord's.

Amy Jones fell to Sneh Rana early on and although Sophie Ecclestone made her first Test match 50, England were bowled out for under 200 for the second time in the game.

This team is going to have to go through a journey, there might be a dip in form after the loss of players.

They're lucky that they're playing Ireland in their next series.

  3. 'A really important thing to tick off'published at 13:27 BST

England retiree Heather Knight: "It's been really cool to play a Test match here at Lord's, not the result we would've wanted but credit to India, they had the aspects of Test match cricket."

"I hope it's not the last. It's been a really important thing to tick off. Grateful for the people before who have made it possible."

More from Nat Sciver-Brunt at the presentation about preparation for this game: "I guess of course we would have liked a couple more days between that final, but I suppose that’s the scheduling and the game we’re in.

"There’s a lot of cricket to be played in the calendar and as cricketers we have to be prepared for that and recover as best we can before preparing for a Test match and a change in format.

"That’s what we’ve signed up for as England cricketers, we want to be part of everything, I don't see an issue with that really."

On whether she enjoyed the Test: "I have really enjoyed it. Absolutely loved walking through the Long Room and feeling the excitement from everyone there, we've obviously had a very special Test match in Heather and Tammy’s last game as well. There's been a lot going on and lot of emotions riding around the four days, but yeah I’ve loved it."

On Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont: "They've been a huge part of my whole career.

"Both part of the team before I started, so it’s going to be a bit weird without them around. Obviously Heather having taken over captaincy, has seen us through the full professionalisation of the game and taken us to where we are now.

"I’m in a huge privileged position taking the team and the girls forward even further. They’ve both been such a huge part of our team, have had hugely successful careers and have so much to be proud of. "I'm just proud to have been part of their experience and the people that they are."

On England’s next home Test match in the Ashes: "Reflecting really well on this game, using the experience as best we can and learning from that. I suppose have that in the back pocket for when we switch formats quite quickly."

It has been amazing, the crowd's been great, the occasion has been great. It took too long for this to happen but hopefully it will happen more often.

The defeat doesn't take away from the occasion.

  6. 'We’ve shown huge character'published at 13:19 BST

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt speaking at the post-match presentation: "I think in the first session we probably didn’t adapt to the conditions as best as we could have, struggled to find our length.

"Once we started hitting that I think we were really in the game, but I suppose with the bat we just didn’t have enough partnerships together and couldn’t extend those and get close to the total so we were sort of fighting to get back into the game from then.

"Throughout different times in the match we’ve shown huge character, some huge spells from Lauren Bell, Sophie Ecclestone, Issy Wong finding something for us.

"I guess just a great experience as a first Test match at Lord's but plenty of things to be working on."

On whether she’d change her decision at the toss: "No, I don't think so. You could play it out the other way around, be three or four down in the first morning or whatever it is.

"I think as a team we were happy with that decision, and I think we showed spells of getting on top of the game but couldn't make those last."

I think that there has to have been a World Cup hangover there.

We didn't bowl well enough, they were off with the line, the length and the stumps weren't always in play.

But, England don't play Test cricket enough, no one plays Test cricket enough in women's cricket. You can't then expect performances but England were outplayed in every aspect.

  9. 'Nowhere near our best'published at 13:13 BST

England head coach Charlotte Edwards talking to Test Match Special: "Really disappointed. In a historical game, playing nowhere near our best.

"Credit to India, they played incredibly well. Just a week after the World Cup final, not putting in our best. There's no excuses from our end, it's the same from both ends, albeit India probably had a bit more time.

"Our goal for the summer was the World Cup, a lot of detail had been put into that. To end our summer, it's disappointing but reflecting as a whole, hugely proud of what the team achieved."

On Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont: "What unbelievable careers they've both had, there's been tears over the past couple of days. Their contributions have been huge.

"I think it's an opportunity for younger players to stake a claim for their spots, that's the message from me moving forwards."

On women's Test cricket: "I think there's a place for it but maybe it has to be part of a multi series or a bilateral series. That's something to look at moving forward.

"We've enjoyed Test cricket but you have to have it constantly, you can't have it every 18 months. I'm a huge advocate for it, there's so much you can learn from it. I think there's so much that can be learned from three- and four-day cricket, it only helps other aspects of the game.

"I think we need to see it in tier-one cricket, getting that exposure for younger players, older players, it's so important."

On the rest of the summer: "I think we need a lot of time to think, reassess. Get some time for me to reflect on what's been a really special summer.

"I need time to think about where we want to take this team moving forwards."

I don't think England's bowlers were their best in that first innings at all.

It's tough to ask players to come back after that brutal World Cup final with a really short turnaround in a format they don't really play.

It all comes down to that attitude. For periods for that game they weren't turned on, so in the clutch moments they couldn't turn up.

More from Nat Sciver-Brunt talking to BBC TMS about the retiring Heather Knight and Tammy Beamount: "They would've liked to go out all guns blazing, both happy with their decisions and how they're feeling about the whole occasion. They loved it here, they'll be sorely missed. They've had equally long careers, from pre professional era to now."

"I think it's individually chunking the game down. Everybody has the skill to do it, if someone thinks about that in overs or time, those are the sort of things we talk about as a group. We might not have adjusted well with the ball, maybe the same with the bat. Multi-format cricket is so important in the landscape of what we're doing, We've got a big Ashes series next summer, we're preparing well for that."

  12. 'There's been some special memories made'published at 13:05 BST

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt talking to BBC Test Match Special: "Before we started, we knew it was going to be a really special few days and it has been. I've absolutely loved walking through the Long Eoom, hopefully we can do that a few more times to come.

"We were outplayed in all departments really. We had a few good spells with the bat and the ball, but couldn't quite put it all together. India did extremely well, Yastika kept it pretty simple and kept us on our toes."

"I'd say the timing wasn't great, it would've been good if we had a few more days. As bowlers, we want to trust out skill and change and adapt as quickly as we can. Probably didn't on the first morning, couldn't get our line."

  14. 'She never imagined something like this would happen'published at 13:00 BST

Player of the match Kranti Gaud, speaking through team-mate Jemimah Rodrigues: "Growing up she never imagined something like this would happen but as soon as the Test match started she was 'I'm going to get my name up on that board.'

"My thinking was very simple, I just stuck to what the coaches told me and she was saying my strength is to hit the right lengths and I think hitting that the ball is moving and doing it’s bit.

"She's extremely happy. She wants to thank her family, her coaches, and all those who’ve supported her throughout this journey."

On where the stump she took at the end of the game would go: "She's made a small but special museum at home it’s going to go right in the centre there."

Third time in England's last four women's Tests that they've been bowled out for under 200 in both innings.

That had only happened once (2015, v Aus, Canterbury) in their previous 22 Tests, from February 2003 to June 2023.

The thing about India's bowlers, the most impressive thing about the bowlers is that whenever they started a spell, they were on the money straight away. So the batters had to be switched on to score the runs.
