    Brook does this to bowlers.

    They are so threatened by him that they go chasing him.

    Harry Brook guides him away neatly through backward point for four, and then sees two more byes slip down the leg side as he finds himself a little off balance.

    Abbas does draw an edge from Brook later in the over, but it drops well short of the slip cordon.

    With that dismissal today, Joe Root now averages 20.3 (four dismissals) v pace bowlers in Tests this year with the keeper up to the stumps compared to a significantly higher 57.6 average (three dismissals) with the keeper back.

    When Joe Root was batting out of the crease against Muhammad Abbas at the start of the innings today, his average interception point was 2.76m when the keeper was back, reducing to 1.83m when the keeper was brought up to the stumps - a difference of 93cm there.

    That really squared Jordan Cox up. That might have been gobbled up by fourth slip.

    Having returned to the strike, the England number three tries to turn Muhammad Abbas into the leg side but offers a leading edge that flies through the fourth slip position for four.

    Abbas isn't happy, the fielder had just been moved to leg slip from fourth, and he is immediately returned there after that chance.

    But what a great opportunity for Pakistan's bowlers. They are right in this.

    As a Hampshire fan, Abbas truly is a delight to watch in this type of English conditions. A real McGrath type of nibbly bowler who may well take seven or eight (or all 10!) at this rate.

    Well, he clips his first ball from Muhammad Abbas confidently off his legs for four, then takes two leg-byes to fine leg off the final ball of the over.

    Replays show the Joe Root wicket delivery was hitting the top of the stumps - the right call not to review.

    I would have been tempted to have a look at that one, but he decided not to.
