    That really squared Jordan Cox up. That might have been gobbled up by fourth slip.

    Having returned to the strike, the England number three tries to turn Muhammad Abbas into the leg side but offers a leading edge that flies through the fourth slip position for four.

    Abbas isn't happy, the fielder had just been moved to leg slip from fourth, and he is immediately returned there after that chance.

    You don't get the feeling that Pakistan are a great fielding side.

    But what a great opportunity for Pakistan's bowlers. They are right in this.

    As a Hampshire fan, Abbas truly is a delight to watch in this type of English conditions. A real McGrath type of nibbly bowler who may well take seven or eight (or all 10!) at this rate.

    Harry Brook arrives at the crease in challenging circumstances, how will he play this?

    Well, he clips his first ball from Muhammad Abbas confidently off his legs for four, then takes two leg-byes to fine leg off the final ball of the over.

    Replays show the Joe Root wicket delivery was hitting the top of the stumps - the right call not to review.

    That might be a bit high there. It hit the back leg, and Joe Root was caught in the crease.

    I would have been tempted to have a look at that one, but he decided not to.

    He took a while deciding whether to review before walking off without taking a look.

    The home captain had been brought on strike after Jordan Cox clipped the first ball of the over just in front of the slips and took a single.

    Pakistan have dropped 14 catches and taken 30 of them at slips off their pace bowlers in Tests since 2022 with a catch efficiency of 68.2%.

    Only Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have a lower catch efficiency than Pakistan in the timeline.

    I think if I was Pakistan I would tell all my fielders to stand a bit closer because things are skimming off and not carrying.

    The ball drops about a yard short of the diving fielder and breaks for a single, while Root also inside edges out to square leg later in the over - no run on that occasion.

    The England captain seems to call for a new bat as the players take drinks.

    Incredibly harsh comments about Gay. Tough batting conditions and then caught down the leg side which is just bad luck. Give the man a break and give him a chance.

    England fans have wondered why we haven’t found many decent openers over the years, but are now for calling for Gay to be dropped after a handful of Tests. Perspective is needed.

    Joe Root offers a chunky nick to the first delivery from Mohammad Ali, who has replaced Khurram Shahzad, sending the ball flying towards the four-man cordon.

    The ball breaks through the hands of Imam-ul-Haq and runs away for two runs.

    I think Muhammad Abbas is going to need a mate at the other end to try and build a little bit of pressure for him.

    At the moment, he is looking dangerous. Emilio Gay was his 900th first-class wicket.

    You need to work as a unit. At the moment, it looks like 'Come on Abbas, get us a wicket.'
