    Hants v Somerset 240-6 - target 287

Down the track comes Tom Abell to meet Liam Dawson.

Abell whips one over mid-wicket for four - a terrific statement of intent.

Somerset's target reduces to just 47 now with four wickets remaining.

Get Involved - who deserves an England call?published at 14:14 BST 20 April

Jimmy is an England legend, but good Div 2 performances don't warrant a recall. England have many options who didn't tour Australia: Cook, Pennington, Bamber, Baker, Stone, Robinson etc

    Warren, Nottingham

The Test squad will have the perfunctory “reward for County Championship performance” addition but not the required personnel changes and necessary reworking of the coaching system or selection process. Rew if the clamour becomes too loud to ignore; talent, volume of runs - when did quality performance cease to matter?

    JM, Cornwall

As a Bear I'm always bemused at Sam Hain's lack of international cricket. Makes consistent scores in red and white ball, showed this week he can score in tricky situations. mind you happy for him to stay playing for Warwick!

  3. Postpublished at 14:13 BST 20 April

    Warks v Essex 96-7 - target 206

You can't keep your eye off Keith Barker right now. Every over is a testing one for the Essex batters.

To be fair to Simon Harmer, after surviving a rather optimistic lbw shout, he then clips a rare loose one off his pads to the boundary.

Barker's figures are currently 4-23 from 13 overs.

  4. Postpublished at 14:08 BST 20 April

    Hants v Somerset 234-6 - target 287

Good delivery from Kyle Abbott and it is edged aerially by Lewis Gregory but runs right in between the wicket-keeper and fifth slip to the vacant third man boundary for four.

    Somerset need another 53 runs.

  5. 250 up for Middlesexpublished at 14:06 BST 20 April

    Northants v Middx 253-2 (lead by 185)

Leus de Plooy has been keeping Sam Robson company and has raced to a run-a-ball 30, with four boundaries - the latest of which moves Middlesex past 250.

  6. Bamber goes bangpublished at 14:03 BST 20 April

    Essex 91-7, target 206

    Grace Ballinger
The Blaze and Manchester Super Giants seamer

There's something about this partnership between Bamber and Barker!

He may have had his head in his hands after his first wicket of the day, but that was a seriously good delivery.

It was the big wicket of Benkenstein, bowled top of off with some nip off the pitch!

Two new batters at the crease for Essex in the second over after lunch.

  7. 'Essex batting a worry'published at 14:01 BST 20 April

    Warks v Essex 91-7 - target 206

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

Warwickshire are in the ascendency here, by far, and are looking for a win.

If Essex do lose this, they will be looking at their batting. It's a little bit of a worry. Not many of the top order have got runs.

As a former player, I thought if Dean Elgar had got a decent 60 not out, Essex could have won it.

  8. A much-needed boundary for Essexpublished at 14:00 BST 20 April

    Essex 91-7, target 206

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

Harmer threw the kitchen sink at that one!

It was short and wide, not one of Bamber's finest deliveries, and cut away by Harmer.

A bit of an IPL-esque shot, the helicopter.

  9. 100 runs

100 for Sam Robsonpublished at 13:57 BST 20 April

    Northants v Middx 238-2 (lead by 170)

Sam Robson takes a single from Nathan McSweeney to reach his century - and the 38th of his first-class career.

Well batted, that man. This one is meandering towards a draw now.

  10. LANCASHIRE WIN BY FOUR WICKETSpublished at 13:56 BST 20 April
    Breaking

    Gloucs v Lancs 203-6 - target 202

Four byes have done it - a four-wicket victory for Lancashire over Gloucestershire.

A bit of an untidy ending as Graeme van Buuren's leg side delivery slips past James Bracey behind the stumps to the long leg boundary.

The Red Rose have deserved their win though and full credit must go to James Anderson, who picked up seven wickets in the match, and George Balderson who grabbed eight - including a five-for in the first innings.

Lancashire claim back-to-back County Championship victories on the final day to go to the top of the Division Two table, superseding Durham at the summit of the standings with the two pre-season promotion favourites meeting at Chester-le-Street on Friday.

As for Gloucestershire, following a dreadful day one, they rallied back in this one and Bracey's century in the second-innings - the side's first of the 2026 season - was a bright note for which they will hope to build on.

  11. Postpublished at 13:54 BST 20 April

    Hants v Somerset 228-6 - target 287

Another really tidy maiden over from Kyle Abbott.

The last ball of the over jags in and threatens Lewis Gregory's front pad but the Somerset captain just manages to get some bat on it.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:51 BST 20 April

    Benkenstein b Bamber 39 (Essex 82-7 v Warks, target 206)

    Bamber bowls Benkenstein!

The Essex batter didn't get very far forward, plays slightly down the wrong line and that's enough for the ball to beat the bat and smash into the off stump.

Benkenstein was well set - but he's gone and Warwickshire are closing in on an incredible victory.

  13. Not outpublished at 13:50 BST 20 April

    Gloucs v Lancs 194-6 - target 202

Why are Lancashire doing this? With just nine runs needed, and two full sessions to get them, George Balderson races to the non-striker's end for a risky single.

There is a direct hit and Balderson JUST makes his ground but it is so, so close.

Not out is the call by the umpire. No review available, of course.

    So, so unecessary.

  14. Barker unstoppable at Edgbastonpublished at 13:47 BST 20 April

    Essex 80-6 - target 206

    Grace Ballinger
The Blaze and Manchester Super Giants seamer

The perfect wobble ball from the left-hander!

Around the wicket, angling in and nipping away. Pepper has a drive at it and edges to Rob Yates - who doesn't drop many at first slip.

He now has 4-14 off his 10 overs today.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:45 BST 20 April

    Pepper c Yates b Barker 9 (Essex 80-6 v Warks, target 206)

Keith Barker has the ball in the first over after lunch - and has another wicket!

It's a dream return for Barker to Warwickshire. Three balls into the afternoon session, Michael Pepper edges to Rob Yates at first slip.

When we said, at the start of the day, expect the unexpected - we meant it.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:44 BST 20 April

    Shetty b Price 31 (Gloucs v Lancs 192-6 - target 202)

A glimmer of hope for Gloucestershire perhaps?

With Ollie Price's fourth ball into the attack, he forces Arav Shetty to chop on.

Perhaps Gloucs wish they brought on Price a bit sooner.

George Balderson comes to the crease. 10 just required for Lancashire, four wickets still in hand.

  17. Play resumes at Northamptonpublished at 13:43 BST 20 April

    Northants v Middx 211-2 - lead by 143

Nathan McSweeney bowls the first over of the afternoon session, and Sam Robson sees out a maiden. The former England opener (or could he one day ditch that moniker?) is unbeaten on 90.

  18. Play resumes at Southamptonpublished at 13:43 BST 20 April

    Hants v Somerset 223-6 - target 287

Big appeal with the first ball of the day!

Kyle Abbott traps Tom Abell on the top of the pad - not out is the call.

Height the problem on that one.

  19. Back under way at Bristolpublished at 13:41 BST 20 April

    Gloucs v Lancs 190-5 - target 202

Keaton Jennings cuts the third ball after lunch firmly for a single to move on to 75 not out.

    12 now required for Lancashire.
