Essex 137-8 - require 65 runs to win

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

Gilchrist replaces Barnard at the Pavillon end.

When Gilchrist bowls, there is often more to hit, but he is excellent at taking the wickets of tailenders.

    And another from Zaman Akhter!

Gilchrist is driven again down the ground for four, before Akhter then clips one into the on side for a single.

That's nine runs from that over, Essex requiring 64 to win.

Beautiful shot from Zaman Akhter for four.

Nathan Gilchrist, brought back into the attack, bowls a loosener first up and its met with a perfect straight drive to the boundary.

Jack Leach - take a bow!

He cracks one off the back foot behind square-leg for four runs.

Just five runs needed for Somerset. Hampshire need two wickets.

What a superb match this has been as we reach it's conclusion.

After a boundary to third and a confident drive straight to the cover fielder - Ogborne flashes at a ball outside off and edges to Brown off the bowling of Sonny Baker!

An excellent five-fer by Baker, who has taken crucial wickets all throughout the innings: the entire top three, then the skipper Gregory, and finally Ogborne.

Somerset fans can rest assured for now - Jack Leach is now at the crease with Tom Abell. Leach is well-versed in surviving for a win but Hampshire are fired up here.

Somerset nine runs to win, Hampshire require two wickets.

Having watched Essex for years our batting failures have always cost us dearly. It has started again this year with pathetic batting against Hants and now this excuse for a batting performance against Warks, sort it out or we will be mid-table again.

    Keith, Westcliff-on-Sea

Assuming no Harmer heroics from here, Essex will rue the combined 77 runs conceded to the final wicket in this match.

Warwickshire put a short leg in. Jordan Thompson obliges with a short ball but it is on off stump line and Zaman Akhter uses the pace to guide it over the slip cordon for four.

    Essex need 74 to win.

    What a shot.

With the final ball of the over, Tom Abell whips one off his pads and it is aerial but there is not a fielder in sight.

Nine runs now required. Abell, meanwhile, moves onto 96 not out.

    Extraordinary.

Tom Abell takes a single off Kyle Abbott's second delivery leaving Jack Leach with four balls to face from the fast South African.

Leach does well to get fully behind the first of those deliveries before glancing a single to third man to get off strike.

13 now required for Somerset. Great drama here.

    Northants v Middx 318-2 (lead by 250)

Middlesex's lead is now 250. Sam Robson has 137, Leus du Plooy has 58 and this game has no chance of being remembered by anyone other than the batters who have plundered runs.

I always wonder why Jennings doesn't get the same 'has he earned another shot?' treatment that Hameed and Sibley have been getting for a few years now. So reliable for Lancs over a number of seasons. His time has probably gone now and you won't hear Lancs fans complaining!

    Nick, Worcs

Abell has done well these last few seasons seeing as he averages in the mid-30s in first class cricket.

Oooh, close. After taking eight off the first five balls of the Jordan Thompson over, punctuated by the ball change, Simon Harmer is beaten all ends up by the last delivery.

OH HANG ON. Sonny Baker has five-for.

Alfie Ogborne goes for a big on-drive following a boundary just two deliveries before and just edges behind to Ben Brown who makes a simple gather.

Jack Leach walks to the crease with his team in desperate need. Now, where have I seen this before?

Massive boundary - you can hear the applause on the balcony of the pavilion.

We've got a change of ball at Edgbaston due to its condition. The umpires are currently rootling through a box of similarly aged cherries.

I thought Jordan Thompson had another there!

He angles the ball in nicely to the right-handed Akhter and hits the front pad. Thompson and the Bears were very interested but the umpire stands firm.

Thompson is certainly up for it here and is bowling nicely. He is on top of Akhter and will want to keep the number 10 on strike!

Somerset looking to do this in singles it seems - time is still on there side.

They grab four runs off the first four balls of Codi Yusuf's over.

Sonny Baker will go again, this time to new man in Alfie Ogborne.

Tom Abell meanwhile is now 90 not out.

    Northants v Middx 303-2 (lead by 235)

From the first ball of the next over, Sam Robson drives Saif Zaib to the rope and that takes Middlesex past 300, and his partnership with Leus Du Plooy past 100.

If bad light comes, it might be a blessed relief for the Northamptonshire bowlers.

    Gregory b Baker 25 (Hants v Somerset 262-7 - target 287)

The change of bowling does the trick for Hampshire! What a superb delivery from Sonny Baker who now has four-for!

Middle stump knocked out of the ground! Another twist in the tale.

What a beauty. Baker has looked threatening and now gets another in-swinger to beat Lewis Gregory and this time it dislodges his middle stump.

Superb. Alfie Ogborne comes to the crease.

Hampshire need three wickets. Somerset need 25 runs. Who will get there first?
