The celebration from Gurnoor Brar, he just stood in front of Ben Duckett with his arms spread, he gets the last laugh.

This has been a very good over for Gurnoor Brar.

Did Gurnoor Brar give Ben Duckett a send-off there? After Duckett had absolutely tucked into him?

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Ben Duckett has been swinging at everything so this outcome felt inevitable at some point.

Gurnoor Brar looks to have done Duckett for pace a touch.

Great work by Jasprit Bumrah who kept his balance superbly and was aware of where his feet were.

Looking at Jasprit Bumrah's reaction, he looks fairly confident.

Ben Duckett top-edges a hack off Gurnoor Brar down to Jasprit Bumrah at deep third.

Bumrah juggles the catch, but has his foot touch the boundary sponge?

That is a lovely catch from Washington Sundar, it was moving away from him so he had to move to take it, diving in the end.

It's been a good opening partnership for England. It's a big wicket for Gurnoor Brar though, who went for 17 in the first, nine in the second but this wicket should give him a lot of confidence.

Jacob Bethell's first innings as an opener in ODI cricket will not go down as a particularly memorable one.

The left-hander pulls Gurnoor Brar but is unable to keep it down nor get sufficient elevation and Washington Sundar anticipates it rushing in from deep square.

Washington takes a tumbling catch diving forward.

Washington Sundar is bowling really well. He's actually bowling slower and is getting the ball to drift a bit more than the other off spinners.

  9. Eng 61-0published at 12 overs

Washington Sundar is tossed the ball by Shubman Gill as we see spin for the first time today.

It's a tidy start by the India off-spinner who maintains good control of his length and Jacob Bethell and Ben Duckett take a look by milking it into the gaps.

I like Bethell but I don’t see the vision of him opening the batting. His strength is against spin and the older ball, and his weakness is when it’s doing a bit, so why put him in early? For me it should be Brook opening and Bethell at 4.

Jacob Bethell flashes a drive and edges it through the vacant third region to pick up a rather handy four.

Bethell and Ben Duckett content to farm the strike in the remainder of the over.

Jacob Bethell's 6* off 24 was the lowest powerplay score by an unbeaten English opener in ODIs since Ian Bell finished the powerplay with 5* off 26 against New Zealand in Bristol in June 2008.

Drew in the Test series, thrashed them in the T20 series, hopefully the third type of result doesn't show its face here...

Jacob Bethell just needs a couple of boundaries and he'll be able to spark his innings into life.

England have been really good at batting on this pitch and realising that it isn't ideal for shot making. It has been smart from them, just being watchful.

The problem is, Jacob Bethell has five runs off 23 balls and you can see Ben Duckett at the other end playing the shots.

  16. Eng 51-0published at 8.5 overs

Ben Duckett gets a short wide one from Gurnoor Brar and waspishly slaps it through the covers for four.

A little more fortuitous a couple of balls later when Duckett flashes hard and the ball flies over the slip cordon for the same outcome.

It's the very last Blue for Bob day at Edgbaston. It's become a tradition at this ground, in memory of the late Bob Willis, raising money for a prostate cancer screening charity. Given the two sides involved, and their ODI kits, it's being very well observed. Even the building site is blue.

Sometimes you just have to respect good bowling. I don't mind this start as long as they don't now throw away wickets by panicking too early.

Need to be watchful, better 20-0 than 50-3.

Ben Duckett has found his rhythm here.

He creams Prasidh Krishna through over the fielder at cover for four.

Jacob Bethell has fair bit of bat over the line.

Speedy Gonzales would have been proud of that single.
