England need to weather the storm here.

There's so much happening on this pitch, it's really quite spicy.

  4. dropped catch

Root dropped on sevenpublished at 19.3 overs

    They almost did, Tuffers.

Joe Root chips a drive on the up from Shivam Dube straight back at the bowler.

Dube can scarcely believe his eyes and ends up fumbling one at chest height.

A huge let off for England

If India take Joe Root, this could be over very quickly

  6. Eng 92-5published at 19.2 overs

As much as I would kind of love that, Michael, it looks somewhat unlikely based on the rankings unless England have a really big meltdown this summer. They face Sri Lanka later in the summer, don't forget.

Shivam Dube is brought on as Shubman Gill keeps Jasprit Bumrah fresh.

It's fine. England having to play in the World Cup qualifier against USA, Scotland and Jersey will be exciting.

Will Jacks, who came out at seven, has faced seven balls which is the same as Joe Root batting at three.

  9. Eng 89-5published at 19 overs

I wasn't entirely sure I believed Shubman Gill when he said India wanted to bowl first at the toss.

England need a quiet period for four or five overs just to regain some composure, and see off however many Gill decides to give Bumrah.

There's a lot going on on the pitch, bounce and jag.

    That's a pretty heavy combination.

  11. Eng 86-5published at 18.3 overs

    Superb bowling from India.

Prasidh Krishna twice cuts Will Jacks in half.

The first is edged, or gloved, and runs away for four. The second jabs back sharply and is cleanly taken by KL Rahul behind the stumps.

I think 80-5 does not look so bad on paper except you have a shortage of specialist batsmen, Will Jacks is coming out and we're in over 18.

Joe Root is just stood with his hands on his hips, he's hardly moved.

Joe Root must be so fed up of this.

Jasprit Bumrah took his 150th ODI wicket today - and there's some good players on his hit list...

  15. Eng 82-5published at 18 overs

Joe Root sees off four dots from Jasprit Bumrah before dabbing a single into gully leaving Will Jacks one ball to survive.

A sigh of relief as Jacks works it into the leg side for a single to get off the mark.

A few loose shots and good bowling to be fair. I'll take nothing away for the Indian seamers, they've bowled beautifully.

England have got to be careful now.

I think India just keep going with Jasprit Bumrah and try to finish the game.

  18. Eng 80-5published at 17.2 overs

Jasprit Burmah continues. Joe Root on strike.

India smell blood. Shubman Gill is going for the kill.

Will Jacks watches nervously from the non-striker's end.

So after 4 years of Bazball we have a good T20 team ...an indifferent One-Day team and a poor Test team..predictable really.

What England could have done is bring Liam Dawson out to bat. He's not an explosive batsman, but he will just hang in there.
