Your views on England's tour of Sri Lanka

  1. Sri Lanka reviewpublished at 8.1 overs

A vociferous appeal from Pramod Madushan aftr he strikes Joe Root high on the pad as he attempts to work it to leg.

It's turned down but because it is Joe Root, and on the strength of the appeal perhaps, it's sent upstairs by Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka.

Ben Duckett with a big heave-ho across the line to Dhananjaya de Silva brings up England's first six of the innings. A lot of bottom hand in that.

  3. Eng 31-1published at 7 overs

Joe Root already looks a million dollars here. He's adjusted to the pace of the wicket and the Sri Lankan bowlers.

The Yorkshireman gracefully flicks a full delivery from Asitha Fernando through mid-wicket for four.

That being said Root is beaten by an effort ball from Fernando which wooshes past a little fend wide of off stump.

Rehan Ahmed left the field looking back at the big screen as if to say 'what happened there?'

  5. Eng 25-1published at 6 overs

Joe Root is the new England batter.

He gets off the mark with a four courtesy of a lovely skip down the pitch before caressing it to the boundary.

    All timing.

A good length ball, an absolute beauty from Dhananjaya de Silva. Rehan Ahmed has been completely deceived. He got the base of his foot stuck in the crease as he transferred weight and that's what stopped him going into the ball.

    Ahmed b de Silva 13 (Eng 20-1)

Rehan Ahmed backs away, attempts to cut, but is done by a delivery that actually swings more than it spins from Dhananjaya de Silva.

There was a bit more zip on that from De Silva and he is late on the shot and the ball clatters into off stump.

The England batter trudges off looking a little flummoxed. Not what he was expecting.

  8. Eng 18-0published at 5 overs

England's first boundary of the innings off Asitha Fernando, although it comes from overthrows.

Rehan Ahmed had thwacked the Sri Lanka seamer through the covers but the fielder's shy at the stumps ricochets off them and races away to the boundary.

Maybe Rehan coming in as emergency opener will prove to be a 'Travis Head Moment'...

  10. Eng 13-0published at 4 overs

Rehan Ahmed has a highest score of 27 in ODIs, albeit that comes batting down the order. He thumps it beyond point for a couple then tucks one off his pads to take three off the over.

He now has seven runs off 10 balls.

This is a big chance up the order for Rehan Ahmed to settle in and get a score.

  12. Eng 8-0published at 3 overs

Rehan Ahmed has been fairly measured so far. He can see there's a chance to make some sort of statement about his bating in an England shirt here.

He and Ben Duckett pick up four runs off Asitha Fernando's second over.

  13. Eng 3-0published at 2 overs

The ball had run away for four leg-byes before that Ben Duckett review, but a quirk of DRS protocol is that those runs are chalked off even though the decision was not out..

Surely this need to get changed at some point?

It's going to cost a team in a big semi-final or final sometime.

Mighty mighty close. The shape was beautiful from Pramod. The review was a good decision by England.

  15. Duckett survivespublished at 1.1 overs

It looked too high on first view and the ball-tracking technology backed it up.

A good delivery from Pramod Madushan with shape and swing which had Ben Duckett in trouble.

  16. England reviewpublished at 1.1 overs

    No bat involved.

  17. England reviewpublished at 1.1 overs

Pramod Madushan hits Ben Duckett high on the inner thigh on his back foot. Sri Lanka appeal.

    It's given out on field.

But this looks high. Duckett reviews.

  18. Eng 1-0published at 1 over

Ben Duckett attempts cut one he should probably have left from Asitha Fernando before seeing off three dots.

  19. Eng 1-0published at 0.2 overs

Asitha Fernando starts for Sri Lanka and Rehan Ahmed latches on to a full wide one which he squirts down to third to get off the mark.

Thanks, Tim. A very busy day thus far.

Right, let's see how good Rehan Ahmed goes as an England opening batter.
