Will Jos Buttler be tempted to go into overdrive to get England home? Harry Brook has been the picture of calm so far, and there's no need for fireworks.

England take another four runs from Dunith Wellalage's next over.

  2. Eng 182-4published at 41 overs

Jos Buttler is off the mark quickly with a push into the leg side, but Asitha Fernando has bowled well since returning to the attack.

Should Sri Lanka have turned to him sooner?

It keeps the game alive! Sri Lanka have the big wicket of Joe Root.

    Gone!

It was clipping leg stump but it's umpire's call and after a fine innings, Joe Root trudges off.

There's no edge, it looks adjacent as he is back on the crease as it hits his toes.

I would say not to discard the Rehan Ahmed experiment. He was unfortunately out as his front door studs got stuck which caused him to miss that ball. He looked good whilst in. Also he could be our next big all-rounder

There's a bit more aggression from Joe Root and Harry Brook as they pull and drive Jeffrey Vandersay around for six more chipped away off the target.

  10. Eng 172-3published at 39 overs

    Target: 220

This time, England do get a wide, in fact four of them as Dunith Wellalage sends one past Harry Brook's pads with his second delivery.

He concedes two more singles as England get to within 50 runs of their target.

Despite the search of wickets being difficult for Sri Lanka, their bowling has been fairly consistent and tight this game as well. The difference seems to be a bit more sensible batting from England thus far!

Harry Brook senses because there's pace on the ball, this could be their chance to make the game comfortably safe.

Asitha Fernando returns to bring pace back into the equation for the first time in ages.

Harry Brook tries to dance down the track a couple of times to put the bowler off his length, then tries a scoop over his left shoulder that he doesn't get anywhere near. That's the first sign of the chance-taking Harry Brook today.

The bowler puts one out a long way wide of off stump but it's not called wide, a decision that sees Brook drop his bat in shock. In retaliation he slaps the final delivery low to long on for the only single of the over.

Brook said the lesson learned from the opening game was to keep rotating the strike and they are managing that well.

Lasith Malinga can be seen looking on ruefully from the Sri Lankan coaching team's area. How they could do with his rockets right now, eh?

More nudging and nurdling sees England edge four close to their target from Dunith Wellalage's latest over.

Drinks breaks can sometimes shake the concentration of the batter, but there are no alarms for Harry Brook and Joe Root as they stroll around to take four from Charith Asalanka.

I agree with Trevor - there's a bit more jeopardy in these kind of contests.

Dunith Wellalage's left-armers are comfortably worked around for four singles ahead of a drinks break.

Low-scoring 50-over matches are the best of one-day cricket. Bowlers actually providing jeopardy rather than just being bowling machines for the sloggers. This is far from over.

  19. Eng 150-3published at 34 overs

    Target: 220

Joe Root has slowed up a touch, and he shows a bit of anger after missing out on a reverse sweep to Charith Asalanka, the ball hitting his wrists instead of the bat.

Sri Lanka's skipper concedes just a single from his latest over, but England need 70 from 16 overs.
