Despite batting at number five, Harry Brook has come into bat inside the first 10 overs in all seven of his T20I innings this year.

Captain Harry Brook joins Tom Banton in the middle with England in a slight spot of bother.

They’ll want this pair to steady things quickly and stitch together a partnership that can put them in firm control.

It is rapid from Ben Manenti, and it rushes Jacob Bethell in his decision-making. The ball is too short to play a sweep, that bounce we have talked about. Using the sweep shot, it is hard to control that. Bethell falling foul of indecision.

    Bethell c Jaspreet b B Manenti 23 (Eng 67-3)

    Jacob Bethell departs!

He gets down on one knee to slog-sweep Ben Manenti but execution is lacking and it is an easy catch for Jaspreet Singh at deep backward square leg.

Tom Banton was under pressure after the first two games as there was a rumbling of discontent in the media and on social media. His strike rate against spin is up there with the best in the world in franchise cricket

It was a sign of Banton's innings the other day. You think he will sweep and reverse sweep, but with the bounce in the surface, he didn't think that was an option. It looks like he is taking a similar approach here.

  8. Eng 66-2published at 7 overs

Tom Banton comes to the crease on the back of a confidence-boosting, match-winning knock against Scotland last week.

He looks to cut leg-spinner Crishan Kalugamage but gets a bottom edge which sails through the gloves of the wicketkeeper and runs away to the boundary.

A coming of age tournament at just 22 for Jacob Bethell. Could watch him bat all day. Gorgeous technique and a beautiful arrogance to go with it. All the tools to be the best in the world across all formats in a few years.

The fall of wicket brings drinks to the middle.

And England add two more when we resume to take their score to 56-2 at the end of the powerplay.

Phil Salt doesn't think this has carried. From the reaction of Italy's players, it has.

This is a shot that Salt loves to play so much - the short arm jab.

The fielder, Anthony Mosca, charges in from the boundary and takes a brilliant catch.

That's a brilliant diving take from Anthony Mosca at the deep!

Phil Salt looked to be in good nick here but he doesn't get the distance on a pull but Mosca still has plenty of work to do as he just about gets his fingers underneath the ball to sent back the England opener.

Salt wants it reviewed but he doesn't get any reprieve as England lose a second wicket in the powerplay.

It's far from a sellout in Kolkata today. One of those occassions where you can pick your spot and spread out, feet up.

England bring up their fifty with one over of the powerplay left.

They'll be pleased with this start despite losing Jos Buttler early.

That shot makes Phil Salt so difficult to bowl at. That was slightly too short from Grant Stewart. It was belly button height and all Salt had to do is swivel. It flies deep into the stands.

It is an opportunity for him to knuckle down and hit any loose deliveries.

A second six of the over - this time from the bat of Phil Salt.

There's an Italy fielder at deep backward square leg but he's got no chance of catching that.

    More aggression from Jacob Bethell!

And this time, he times it ever so sweetly to send Grant Stewart all the way for a maximum over long-on.

Feels like sacrilege to even think about it, but I'm starting to wonder if Buttler might have to be dropped. Poor in the Sri Lanka series and even worse now. Banton could cover behind the stumps.

    Mark, London

Time for Banton to open, and Buttler to go back to a finisher I think.

Jacob Bethell takes a little step down the pitch and he drags his length back. The bounce we saw on this Kolkata surface with Jamie Overton and Jofra Archer bowling was evident. Bethell was fortuitous there.

  20. Eng 33-1published at 4 overs

Jacob Bethell has looked to take on Italy from the moment he arrived at the crease.

He skips down to Ali Hasan but doesn’t quite get the connection and he's fortunate it flies off the edge to go one bounce over the rope at deep third.

But it certainly isn't slowing him down here.
