  1. Aus 57-2published at 18 overs

    Khawaja 11, Labuschagne 12

Just a single from the last five ball of the over and it has been a good start from Josh Tongue.

He's getting the ball down at a good lick as well. A top speed of 90.2mph in that over.

  2. Aus 56-2published at 17.1 overs

Full and on the pads from Josh Tongue and Usman Khawaja whips it away through square leg for four.

That's not going to make the bowler feel any better about the drop in his previous over.

England's new selection has bowled well so far. Definitely seems that Tongue has a taste for Ashes cricket.

  4. Aus 52-2published at 17 overs

Maiden over from Ben Stokes as he keeps Marnus Labuschagne tied down with a tight line around off stump.

  5. Aus 52-2published at 16 overs

Another drop for England in this series, they will hope this one doesn't prove quite as costly as those in Brisbane in the last Test.

Harry Brook will be disappointed that he didn't take it, but it was climbing on him.

As he went to take the catch, the ball was still travelling up in the air.

Harry Brook flying to his left and he got two hands on it! That was very catchable.

  8. dropped catch

Khawaja dropped on 5published at 15.5 overs

    Aus 51-2

Big chance for England - Australia should be three down!

Probing line, good length from Josh Tongue and he finds Usman Khawaja's outside edge as the left-hander tries to play through the off side.

The ball goes very quickly but at a catchable height towards second slip but Harry Brook, diving to his left, can't hold on.

  9. Aus 50-2published at 15.3 overs

Very fair, Will, but I would say that based on past experience, if England fans don't allow themselves to get excited and enjoy these brief moments, an away Ashes tour can be tough...

I bet Khawaja goes on to get a century against all odds.

    Ray, Milton Keynes

Easy to get excited, but Khawaja leaving well and Marnus is looking untroubled. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves

Beautiful drive through the covers from Marnus Labuschagne. That bisected England's field perfectly.

  12. Aus 48-2published at 15 overs

Ben Stokes oversteps and then strays leg-side next ball.

It brushes off Marnus Labuschagne's hip and away for four. Given runs, though, and batter will gratefully accept the umpire's decision.

Gorgeous shot later in the over, a tad full from Stokes and Labuschagne drills it through the covers for four more.

After such a becalmed start, Usman Khawaja suddenly tries to pull a ball from Josh Tongue that is far too full for that shot.

He ends up thumping it into his own pad off the inside edge.

Khawaja watches the next ball go by and is now on three from 23 balls.

I know I’m biased, but that Crawley catch is better every time I watch it. A turning point of the series?

    Will, London

It feels like Australia’s efforts in the opening six are nullified now. Stokes will pick up one or two and the inning will almost be over.

  16. Aus 38-2published at 13 overs

Just one from the England captain's first over.

Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne are being very watchful after those two quick wickets.

Double bowling change for England as Ben Stokes comes on to give Jofra Archer a breather after drinks.

    Two decent wickets for England.

The Zak Crawley catch was outstanding, diving to his left at cover point.

England, after a good start from Archer it wasn't backed up by Carse, but it is good to see him get a wicket. It will give Carse some confidence.

In the era where we've collected the data (2006 onwards), England have been to Australia for six Ashes series - their false-shot percentage with the ball on this tour so far, 27%, is the highest they've recorded.
