Somerset 64-3 (need 196 more runs to beat Yorks)

This game is just in a post-lunch lull at the moment. George Hill and Jack White are bowling tight lines, Josh Thomas and Tom Abell are remaining patient.

    Their stand is worth 43.

  2. 'Fascinating passage of play'published at 14:00 BST 4 May

    Somerset 64-3 (target 260) v Yorkshire

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

These sort of passages of play hold great fascination for me. I used to do a bit of amateur captaincy and I loved that part of the game.

In this part of the game Yorkshire need wickets, but they cannot all-out attack because of the runs that Somerset need.

They could all-out attack again if they can get a couple of wickets and put the squeeze on, and go for it again.

  3. Back under way at Southamptonpublished at 13:59 BST 4 May

    Hants 214 & 230-8 f/o (trail by 92 runs) v Glam 536-7d

Timm van der Gugten resumes with Codi Yusuf in his eyeline.

  4. Postpublished at 13:58 BST 4 May

Sussex 197-7 (trail Surrey by 67 runs)

Ollie Robinson drives Sean Abbott down the ground for a handsome boundary.

He knows, with 62 overs to bowl, there is no future in a defensive mindset.

Carson lbw b Abbott 48 (Sussex 193-7, trail Surrey by 71)

    That is plumb.

Jack Carson's counter-attacking innings comes to an end as Sean Abbott traps him direct in front of the timber.

Ollie Robinson walks out next, so no Tom Haines just yet.

  6. Postpublished at 13:53 BST 4 May

Sussex 192-6 (trail Surrey by 72 runs)

Jack Carson living dangerously now, as he tries to turn Jordan Clark off his hip but gets a leading edge but it falls safe of the mid-off fielder.

  7. Back under way at The Ovalpublished at 13:52 BST 4 May

Sussex 192-6 (trail Surrey by 72 runs)

What a first over of the afternoon for Sussex - 17 off it.

Sean Abbott bowls a loosener with the first ball after lunch and Jack Carson cashes in, driving for four.

Abbott then pushes one down the leg side, leading to four leg byes off Carson's hip.

The next two balls are both hit to the boundary, the first off the back foot through the off side, the second clipped through mid-wicket.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:52 BST 4 May

    Aitchison c Benjamin b Milnes 12 (Kent v Derbys 111-8, target 384)

This is extraordinary from Matt Milnes.

The Kent paceman gets his fifth wicket as Ben Aitchison is caught behind.

Milnes has figures of 5-8 off 13 overs. Wow.

He's leading his side to a first County Championship win of the season.

  9. Play resumes at Tauntonpublished at 13:47 BST 4 May

Somerset 57-3 (need 203 more runs to win)

Back under way after lunch - and George Hill is convinced he's got Tom Abell lbw in the first over of the afternoon session.

It looks a very good shout. The only question must have been whether it was just drifting down the leg side.

They'll start the afternoon session at Hampshire a little later.

  11. 'Somerset will still fancy chances'published at 13:37 BST 4 May

Somerset 57-3 (target 260) v Yorkshire - lunch, day four

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

I think we can be fairly sure that this game will end in a positive result, but which side will come out on top is still very much in the balance.

Somerset started well, Craig Overton having Jyhe Richardson caught behind in just the third over, to leave a target of 260 in 92 overs.

But the run chase started shakily against accurate, testing bowling from Jack White and George Hill, and at 24-3 it was Yorkshire who were firmly in the driving seat.

The arrival of Tom Abell steadied the Somerset ship, and on a placid pitch, with plenty of batting to come, the home team will still fancy their chances.

  12. 'Sussex have mountain to climb'published at 13:25 BST 4 May

    Surrey 622 v Sussex 358-9 dec & 175-6 - lunch, day four

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Radio Sussex

An unbroken seventh wicket partnership of 64 between Jack Carson and Charlie Tear has taken the game into the afternoon session, but with the arrears still 89 Sussex still have a mountain to climb to salvage a draw.

But credit to Tear. The 21-year-old has taken a rare opportunity to play Championship cricket and has grafted his way to a well-deserved half-century in 106 balls.

Surrey know that patience is the key and with the new ball available in just 18 overs will be confident of securing their first Championship win of the season.

However there is still a possibility that Tom Haines who was injured yesterday could bat later today, and Sussex certainly won't give up without a fight.

  13. Lunch at Southamptonpublished at 13:22 BST 4 May

    Hants 214 & 230-8 f/o v Glam 536-7d

Hants skipper Ben Brown (82) and Codi Yusuf (11) keep Glam at arm's length to end a first session extended by 15 minutes unbeaten and lunch is now taken at the Utilita Bowl.

Notts players celebrate victory at Grace Road

Ben Slater reaches his half century with a upper cut six off Josh Hull which flies over the cover boundary rope and secures a emphatic and well-deserved victory.

This has been a victory built on a superb first innings knock from Slater (178) and an excellent five wicket haul for Olly Stone (5-68) in Leics reply that left the Foxes on the back foot.

It was a position which they never fully recovered from despite defiance with the bat from Stephen Eskinazi (100) and Ajaz Patel (62) which brought a glimmer of hope.

After enfrocing the follow-on Liam Patterson-White joined the party in Leics second innings with 5-53 as the pitch increasingly helped spin with some near unplayable turn out of the footmarks.

A chase of 73 was never enough to stop Notts bounding to a second victory of the season, the champions taking 23 points with the home side bagging four points.

  15. Lunch at Canterburypublished at 13:10 BST 4 May

    Kent v Derbyshire 103-7 (target 384)

Derbyshire pair Luis Reece and Ben Aitchison have done well to see out 10 overs before lunch, with Reece moving onto 29.

But it's a long way back for the visitors. Kent need three more wickets in two sessions for their first win of 2026.

Paceman Matt Milnes has the incredible figures of 4-8 off 12 overs.

  16. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:06 BST 4 May

Somerset 57-3 (need 203 more runs to beat Yorks)

A fascinating morning at Taunton, leaving the match in the balance.

Three Yorkshire wickets put them in the ascendancy at 21-3, but Josh Thomas (23 not out) and Tom Abell (24 not out) have given Somerset fans reason to enjoy their lunch a little more.

  17. Lunch delayedpublished at 13:05 BST 4 May

    Hants 219-8 f/o trail by 103 runs

Glamorgan have been given another 15 minutes to take the ninth wicket and if they do they will take the extra half hour. If not they will go to lunch.

  18. Lunch at The Ovalpublished at 13:04 BST 4 May

Sussex 175-6 (trail Surrey by 89 runs)

And that is the luncheon interval in south London.

Once again, Sussex's lower order is coming to their team's rescue in this game. Charlie Tear has batted well for an unbeaten 51 and Jack Carson has hit two fours and two sixes, while also playing and missing a fair bit.

Surrey still on top after taking two wickets this morning. The new ball is due in 18 overs.

  19. Postpublished at 13:04 BST 4 May

    Notts 48-0 Target 73

Haseeb Hameed (19) and Ben Slater (27) are accelerating smoothly towards the target and lunch will be delayed as they complete the match.

  20. Lunch at Lord'spublished at 13:03 BST 4 May

    Middlesex 430 & 57-3 v Durham 567

    Durham's session.

After building their lead to 137 in quick time, the visitors took three Middlesex wickets at Lord's.

Big afternoon coming up in the capital with Middlesex still 80 behind.
