Well, that ended up being a positive over for England even with the wicket of Phil Salt.

Jacob Bethell has raced to 14 off five deliveries, profiting from some gifts from Sher Malla.

A few freebies from Sher Malla and good selective strokeplay from Jacob Bethell on a pitch which you don't know if you can quite trust just yet.

BOOM. Jacob Bethell is in the mood.

He watches one delivery, hits the next through point for four, and then bangs one over mid-wicket and into the crowd for the first six of the day.

That was a good catch by Sandeep Lamichhane. There's a haze at the Wankhede Stadium along with the noise so he did well to hold on.

Thrashing across the line there Phil Salt who was looking to turn it round the corner with a slap. The ball has just held in the pitch and a top edge which hung in the sky for a decent amount of time. It was an instinctive shot from Salt.

A huge celebration from the Nepal players and fans. England are on the back foot.

What we saw yesterday in the first few overs was USA bowled well to India with control of their lengths and change of pace. Nepal will have looked at their with their plans for today.

  11. Eng 5-0published at 1 over

Jos Buttler collects England's first boundary, hitting down the ground.

It's poorly timed but has enough on it to beat the chase of Nepal captain Rohit Paudel.

Karan KC responds with a nipping delivery which beats Buttler's bat.

A tidy opening over from Nepal.

Went a bit early with my "off we go!" cry there, didn't I?

There's a bit of standing around and a stop and a stutter from the bowler before we finally get under way.

Phil Salt gets England up and running with a single.

Phil Salt brings experience and attitude to the top of England's order. He clearly respects the bowlers but when you are bowling at him there is no discrimination about the balls he is looking to hit to the boundary.

He is a batter who puts you immediately on the back foot and that's why England have been desperate to slip him in the top of the order.

England won the toss and elected to bat, so it's Phil Salt and Jos Buttler who have walked out to the middle.

Karan KC will open the bowling for Nepal.

    Off we go!

England have slipped off their pedestal as the best white-ball team in the world. That probably suits them. To be underdogs a little and slide in their quietly. If you put a label on it like 'we have to make a final' it puts pressure on you.

Batting first could be a shrewd move from Harry Brook, with conditions aiding swing and seam more in the second innings at the Wankhede yesterday compared to the first innings - albeit with a later start time than today.

Average movement - India vs USA yesterday:

    • 1st Innings - 0.79° swing, 0.50° seam
    • 2nd Innings - 1.12° swing, 0.69° seam

As a player there are so many distractions and you just have to put them out of your head. The noise and conjecture around the off-field stuff will continue.

The volume of that will depend on England and how they play on the pitch.

There has been a bit of a Nepal takeover in Mumbai today. This was the famous Marine Drive just an hour before the start of the game. It seemed like England fans were outnumbered 50-1.

I spoke to plenty of Nepal supporters who have flown in just for this game.
