England's Jacob Bethell, who top-scored with 55 (35), said: "It's a good score. After six or seven overs, we were thinking 180 and if we went well, to sneak up to 200. We're really happy with 185. We just have to go out and defend it.

"The off-pace deliveries were pretty hard with the tacky nature of the wicket, but the spinners were tougher, especially in the middle period when we were trying to get on with it. It was hard to come in and start."

On his advice for England's bowlers: "The seamers will use the change of pace and let the wicket do the work. For the spinners, keep the stumps in play."

Brook went on to make 53 off 32 before some late hitting by Will Jacks - 39 not out off 18 balls - boosted England's total.
