    Warwickshire 407-4 v Surrey 328

It doesn't look like they'll be off for long but a brief shower has interrupted the third day at Edgbaston after just over an hour.

Surrey had removed the two overnight batters, Sam Hain for 94 and Dan Mousley for 144 and the seam attack of Fisher, Abbott and Taylor did get the new ball to move around a bit.

    Warwickshire lead by 79.

James Taylor finds Dan Mousley's edge and Rory Burns at slip grasps at the ball, fumbles it and grabs it at second attempt.

Warwickshire 394-4 had taken their lead to 66 and Mousley's dismissal has brought Ed Barnard to the crease for his first innings as Warwickshire's red ball captain.

    Durham 335 & 83-2 v Kent 197

Storm Dave has left a mark in the North East with damage caused at the Riverside in Chester-le-Street.

A scaffolding platform, which was holding the site screen at the Finchale End of the ground, has blown down. It has damaged fencing and is lying across a section of seating. Scaffolders are now busy taking it apart.

Stadium staff say they will be able to put something in place to help the batsmen. But the main issue now appears to be the pitch. Gusts of 70mph hit the ground last night and one of the wheeled covers is lying on its back in the East Stand. And that means there’s quite a bit of water on the track.

The umpires say play can’t resume until the pitch dries out. It looks rather wet at the far end. And that may be the reason we don’t have any play here today. It is sunny though and breezy. In theory it’s a good drying day.

As for safety in the ground, the club is about to issue a statement to members regarding attending the stadium. However, there’s nothing to watch at the moment. It’s a waiting game.

  10. 50 runs

50 partnership for Northantspublished at 12:11 BST 5 April

    Northants 248-9 v Lancs 384

Despite a slight misfield on the midwicket boundary Lancs stop the ball going over the rope but the single brings up the half century partnership between Lewis McManus and Harry Conway.

Lancs are starting to simmer with the lead now down to 136.

  11. Five-wicket haul for TRJpublished at 12:10 BST 5 April

    Middx 445-9 dec v Glos 159-6

    Toby Roland-JonesImage source, Shutterstock

Toby Roland-Jones takes five wickets in an innings for the 35th time in his first-class career as Miles Hammond departs at Lord's.

The laft-hander batted well for his 77 but drops his bat in disgust after miscuing a pull straight to Naavya Sharma at mid-on.

The likelihood of Gloucestershire having to follow on increases.

  12. Postpublished at 12:10 BST 5 April

    Somerset 347 v Notts 254-4

Glorious on-drive for four by Kyle Verreynne after Jake Ball strays slightly too far down the pitch.

The ball ends up in a puddle on the covers at that end and the very old ball may need to be replaced... 13 balls before a new one is due anyway.

  13. 250 runs

up for Nottspublished at 12:07 BST 5 April

    Somerset 347 v Notts 250-4

A first batting point of the summer for the Champions, brought up in the 78th over with a leg-side clip for a single off Jake Ball by Joe Clarke, who has 86*.

The rain has swept across and some blue sky is peeking out again so we may get away without a second interruption of the morning.

  14. Postpublished at 12:04 BST 5 April

    Somerset 347 v Notts 249-4

Pretty grey and grim again all of a sudden at Taunton, the ground staff are lurking by the covers but we will continue in drizzle for now.

  15. Postpublished at 12:04 BST 5 April

    Northants 247-9 v Lancs 384

Luke Wells has brought leg spin to the party as Lancashire seek this last wicket but Lewis McManus (68) has cut him for four to move the partnership to 49.

Northants are frustrating their visitors and are just one hit away from a first batting bonus point which seemed unlikely when Ben Sanderson fell last night to make it 198-9.

Yorkshire have to be up there, don’t they? For a long time I thought you had to be from Yorkshire to play for them!

    Matt, London

Somerset must have the most Somerset players playing, surely?

    Jamie, Nailsea

Storm Dave an early candidate for Kent’s Player of the Season with a match saving effort at the Riverside.

We're not expecting play any time soon at CLS, where Durham lead Kent by 221 runs with eight wickets in hand.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:01 BST 5 April

    Simpson lbw Holland (Leics 245 v Sussex 361 & 182-6)

A disappointing match with the bat for the normally heavy-scoring John Simpson, who plays down the wrong line to a ball from Ian Holland delivered from round the wicket and is leg-before.

This has been a good fightback by Leicestershire this morning but the Sussex lead is now 298.

  18. Postpublished at 11:59 BST 5 April

    Hants 69-7 v Essex 461-7d

Another big shout for lbw as Shane Snater beats the bat of Kyle Abbott. That looked very close but the umpire was unmoved.

Given how difficult Hants are finding to lay bat on ball, and how little energy Essex are having to expend, enforcing the follow-on (they need 312) has to be an option.

It is not something that is particularly in vogue these days but it is worth thinking about.

  19. 50 up for Yorkshirepublished at 11:58 BST 5 April

    Glamorgan 302 v Yorks 52-1

Three fours in a row for Sam Whiteman off Andy Gorvin - a square cut, a neat dab down to third man and a forcing shot off the back foot.

Whiteman is settling into his work at Sophia Gardens and is now 29 not out.

  20. Division Two updatepublished at 11:57 BST 5 April

Gloucestershire have lost another wicket at Lord's - James Bracey, on 21, driving at ball from Toby Roland-Jones without getting his front foot anywhere near it and edging to gully. TRJ now has 4-35 and Bracey is furious with himself for leaving the visitors on 153-5, 292 in arrears.

No resumption yet at Derby where Worcestershire are 140-2, replying to the home side's 625-8 declared, with rain stopping play.
