Essex bowlers back to their potent best with Sam Cook on fire, backed up by some great fielding. Harmer’s slip catch world class. Huge contrast to Friday’s woeful effort in Leicester’s first innings.

    David, Chelmsford

Are you watching Rob Key? Not sure how anyone can watch Cook and conclude he is ninth best for England. Gets dropped after one poor game on debut whilst others get years of opportunities.

    Ed, London

There is always someone unfortunate. Remember Martin Bicknell - 1061 first-class wickets, average 25.06, only four Test caps.

    Middx 177 & 75-2 v Derbys 376

Derbyshire turn to Shoaib Bashir as we enter the final 20 minutes before lunch at Lord's. The England spinner's first over is a good one, yielding only a single.

By the way, did we mention it is Derbyshire head of cricket Mickey Arthur's birthday today? Happy birthday, Mickey!

    Thompson lbw b Norton 57 (Warks 252-9 v Glam 360)

Tom Norton gets one to nip back in and hits the knee roll of Jordan Thompson's front pad.

The finger goes up and 18-year-old Tom Norton has three wickets.

A fine counter-attacking innings comes to an end.

    Olly Hannon-Dalby joins Nathan Gilchrist.

    Gloucs 154 & 69-5 v Northants 127

The Gloucestershire lead is closing in on 100 - and that alone would be enough for a bit of drama on this pitch.

Luke Procter gets a ball to cut back sharply and strike James Bracey on the pad.

The LBW appeal is dismissed. Outside the line.

Bracey steers a single through point next ball.

Tap and run from Cameron Bancroft - who pushes a single into the off side.

Two more singles are added and the lead is 96.

    Hants 214 v Notts 178-7

Fergus O'Neill doesn't look exactly comfortable against the pace of Sonny Baker, but survives the over.

A second successive maiden for the new England man.

Liam Patterson-White welcomes Brad Wheal back into the attack by hammering his first ball through the offside for a welcome four.

And LPH then guides the next down to the rope at third man for back-to-back boundaries.

    Patel c Revis b Hill 8 (Yorkshire 486 v Surrey 65-4)

Dreadful shot in the circumstances by Ryan Patel - he has to drag himself off for eight and Yorkshire get their fourth.

Shorter delivery this time from George Hill and, on the pull, Patel catches the toe edge of the bat and the ball just balloons up to Matthew Revis who is never going to drop that at square leg.

Yorkshire on the charge here - the rain break has not halted their momentum.

  8. rain stops play

    Somerset 526-8 dec v Sussex 105-3

Jack Leaning sees out the Pretorius over and the rain has started to fall.

Somerset pick up their first bowling point in the nick of time and one assumes lunch will now be taken early.

Well, that would be reasonably logical anyway. TBC.

    Essex 293 v Leics 333 & 41-5

A rare wide one from Sam Cook and Ben Cox square drives for four.

Cox - who cover drives for four two balls later - and Stevie Eskinazi now together and you feel this is a key partnership for the visitors if they are to revive their hopes of winning this game.

    Yorkshire 486 v Surrey 65-3

The sun is back out and we are back under way at Headingley.

We were off for around 18 minutes there so just a short delay. The leg slip plan remains for Yorkshire.

Dan Lawrence is yet to get off the mark for Surrey.

    Clark LBW b Pretorius 31 (Somerset 526-8 dec v Sussex 105-3)

Migael Pretorius replaces Alfie Ogborne in the attack and strikes with the fourth ball of his spell.

Tom Clark had advanced to 31 with a delightful four driven down the ground for four but he's gone next ball.

Clark is forward and hit on the pad in front of off.

That ball straightened a touch off the pitch.

    Jack Leaning to bat next.

Jordan Thompson guides Timm van der Gugten down to third man to bring up his 13th first-class fifty and his first of the season.

He started the day yet to score after one ball and has brought up the landmark off just 58 balls with a mix of good batting and positive running, bordering on the daft.

    Well played!

  13. Postpublished at 12:33 BST 17 May

    Somerset 526-8 dec v Sussex 101-2

Four runs to Dan Hughes, in the crease and driving to backward point for four.

That's the 50 partnership with Tom Clark off 65 balls and the innings 100 in the 28th over.

  14. Postpublished at 12:33 BST 17 May

    Lancs 89-2 v Worcs 270

A crunching drive from Harry Singh into the off side once more goes for four.

Too much width from Adam Finch.

Singh then punches off the back foot with the following delivery with a couple that effectively becomes four due to a front foot no ball by Finch.

Runs running more freely now for Lancashire.

    Leicestershire are in disarray.

    Middlesex 177 & 70-2 v Derbys 376

Max Holden drives Nick Potts to mid-off and a sharp single brings up a 50 stand with Leus du Plooy.

It's been a tough morning for Middlesex, but only the one wicket - Ben Geddes - has gone down so far.

Du Plooy is 33 not out and Holden has 20.

  17. Postpublished at 12:31 BST 17 May

    Gloucs 154 & 59-5 v Northants 127

Harry Conway hits Cameron Bancroft on the pad.

No shot played but high up on the pad as he moved across the line of the ball.

Another big leave outside off, raising the bat and moving it to leg.

Bancroft is forward on the up to drop the last ball of the over into the off side for one.

We have an extended session of play today and lunch will be taken here at 1310 BST.

  18. Postpublished at 12:29 BST 17 May

    Warks 235-8 v Glam 360

Jordan Thompson steps down thje pitch and takes an ugly swipe at Timm van der Gugten.

A thick edge flies to third man for two.

The bowler curses his luck again as an outside edge to the next ball flies over second slip for four more to take Thompson to 48.

It looks like that rain delay was just a brief one.

  20. Postpublished at 12:27 BST 17 May

    Somerset 526-8 dec v Sussex 97-2

Somerset captain Lewis Gregory brings himself on to bowl and Dan Hughes tucks away a leg side loosener for one. One more run comes off the over via a leg bye.

This pitch has been true for most of the match, but Alfie Ogborne gets one to really take off and leave Tom Clark outside off.

    Encouragement for Somerset.

Oh, hold on a minute. Umpire Tom Lungley has had a chat with Ogborne and is now on his radio.

Not sure what that's about. We'll keep you posted.
