Lovely batting from Zen Malik as he steps down the wicket and pushes a Simon Harmer delivery to the long-off boundary.

A single brings Beau Webster to the striker's end and he guides a wide delivery through extra cover for four more.

It brings up the fifty partnership - the Bears' first of the match would you believe - and has come off 81 balls.

Whisper it, but the lead is growing nicely.

With ex Kent player Nathan Gilchrist in the wickets this morning for Warwickshire and Jack Leaning's ton for Sussex last week it strikes me there are players who fire for one county more than another. We have had Headley (Middlesex), Saggers (Durham) and Stevens (Leicestershire). Anyone else find that?

Hampshire v Somerset - yet another fantastic finale brewing in the county championship. What a great competition it is.

It looked like he was juggling a little bit there Codi Yusuf.

He was underneath it for a while, it looked like it went really high off the top edge from Tom Lammonby but Baker strikes again.

Again on the short ball, he got out Archie Vaughan in similar fashion, this time it went a little higher.

As soon as he struck it Tom Lammonby he knew he was in trouble.

Northants skipper Luke Procter brings himself on to try and separate the Middlesex openers.

Sam Robson sneaks a single off the final ball of his second over - the first run he's conceded.

Robson then crunches Sanderson off the backfoot for four to move into double digits.

The openers have done their job so far and negotiated the first 14 overs.

James Bracey looks to hook out to the deep but plays on to his own wicket!

A disappointing way to see your innings come to a conclusion but what a job he has done for his side in this second-innings.

    Warks 101-5 v Essex - lead by 86

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

After an exciting morning’s play where Essex scored 95 runs for the fall of their seven wickets, the afternoon commenced with Essex claiming three Warwickshire wickets, all on 14.

Alex Davies went first, controversially being given out caught at second slip, Dan Mouseley played a loose shot in the air to cover, while Sam Hain could not continue his first innings heroics and was well caught by Simon Harmer at second slip for a duck.

Beau Webster played positively, especially down the ground and together with skipper, Ed Barnard, rescued their side with a 44-run partnership.

Barnard then got a ball which lifted and hit the batter on the thumb and ballooned to third slip where Walter took a terrific forward diving catch.

Essex’s catching has been excellent today. Sam Cook has the rewards today with three wickets and Shane Snater with two.At tea, Warwickshire are 101-5, a lead over Essex of 86 with five wickets remaining.

Who would pick Jimmy Anderson for the Home Summer Test Cricket this year. Age is a Number but Wickets are the Business. He's still better than the Current crop.. Wait let's play 3 Quick Bowlers.. than can't bowl more than 6 overs. Anderson been treated unfairly by Key & Co

    Stephen Bird, Sussex

The scores at Bristol suggest that the wicket is flattening out - Gloucs will want at least another 100 before they start to feel safe.

    Middlesex 12-0 - trail Northants by 56

Harry Conway finds Josh de Caires' pads and turns in appeal to the umpire. But it's just a leg bye.

Ricardo Vasconcelos then misses a big chances as Sam Robson gets an edge and it flies fine between wicketkeeper and first slip.

Vasconcelos dives to his left and gets a paw on it, but it's grassed.

Northants have two draws on their record this season and you'd think a third successive stalemate is the favoured result here unless the pitch starts to misbehave.

    No demons in there yet.
