    Lancs 341-8 v Derbys

Red Rose debutant Paul Coughlin, formerly of Durham, dances down the wicket to take a big swing at Mo Abbas, and misses everything.

He goes four better as he connects with the fourth delivery to hoik it over midwicket rope and move to 22.

The all-rounder is a dangerous customer for Derbys as their bowlers are beginning to tire. A third batting bonus point is within reach at 350.

Another four comes but it will be at the expense of a new bat as Coughlin wallops it through mid-off area to the rope and the lower part of his bat sails up the wicket towards Mitch Stanley at the non-strikers' end.

A single to fine leg off the last delivery allows him to keep the strike.

  2. 400 up for Northantspublished at 17:44 BST 10 April

    Kent v Northants 403-1

Yes, we are reading that correctly! 400 in a day for Northants.

And still seven overs to go!

  3. Postpublished at 17:44 BST 10 April

    Essex 147 v Somerset 108-4

26 wickets once fell at Chelmsford in a Championship day, there would have to be a sensational Somerset collapse (plus six Essex men) to match that today.

But Essex should comfortably get the 13 more overs remaining as Simon Harmer is bowling with his sunglasses optimistically on.

The grey April conditions still suit Jamie Porter better, he continues.

  4. 14 overs for Sussex to bat tonightpublished at 17:42 BST 10 April

    Sussex 0-0 v Warwickshire 267

Tom Haines and Daniel Hughes are ready to face Chris Woakes who will love these bowling conditions.

  5. 50 runs

50 for Ben Foakespublished at 17:42 BST 10 April

    Surrey 386-4 v Leics

Another 50 for Ben Foakes. He punches straight back past Ian Holland for four and it's been some start to the season for Foakes.

128 and 36* at Warwickshire last time out. And now 50* here.

  6. Postpublished at 17:39 BST 10 April

    Hants 251 v Yorks 6-0

It is not gripping stuff at Headingley where Yorks have pottered through the first eight overs and Adam Lyth and Finlay Bean remain to all intents and purposes shotless.

  7. Postpublished at 17:38 BST 10 April

    Notts 279 v Glamorgan 32-2

Glamorgan have been forced into a change to their line-up after Ben Kellaway sustained a hip injury while fielding in the Notts first innings.

Sean Dickson takes his place in the side and will come out to bat as an injury substitute.

  8. 100 runs

100 for Somersetpublished at 17:36 BST 10 April

    Essex 147 v Somerset 102-4

Lewis Goldsworthy had 0 off 16 balls, then got his innings underway with a stunning cover drive off Wiaan Mulder for four to now be four off 25 balls, no rush with 16 overs still available to be bowled tonight though.

James Rew is just doing his thing, no more description needed, even in his tender years his batting is so well known around the Shires now.

He is nearing another personal 50 as he helps his side now trail by less than 50 already.

  9. Postpublished at 17:35 BST 10 April

    Lancs 325-8 v Derbys

Shoaib Bashir does indeed continue with the new ball but his over goes for an unthreatening five runs as Paul Coughlin and Mitch Stanley negotiate the six balls.

  10. Division Twopublished at 17:35 BST 10 April

    #bbccricket

Middlesex lost captain Leus du Plooy for only 10 but Ben Geddes has smacked four quick boundaries to get the scoreboard moving and put pressure back on Worcestershire.

They are now 70-3, only 121 behind the Pears' first innings score.

  11. wicket

WARWICKSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 267published at 17:35 BST 10 April

    Booth c Carson b Price 2 (Sussex v Warwickshire 267 all out)

They do not get to 300, ambitious as it was.

A good catch in the deep as Michael Booth falls to the short ball ploy.

Tom Price and Henry Crocombe both with 3-fers, FHP and Ollie Robinson with 2-fers.

Hard to tell who will be most happy with the 79.4 overs of this match so far.

Could be a tricky mini batting session for the Sussex openers who creamed it around Grace Road a week ago today.

Shoaib Bashir celebrates a wicket for Derbyshire at LancashireImage source, Shutterstock

Who's this Bashir lad? Seems to be taking some wickets and bowling well. Seems like just the control bowler who could hold an end Down Under...

    Alex, Oxfordshire

Shoaib Bashir has taken 4-74 from his 19 overs so far for Derbyshire at Lancashire today.

  13. Postpublished at 17:31 BST 10 April

    Surrey 379-4 v Leics

Jamie Smith might rightly be getting all the headlines at The Oval today but Ben Foakes is quietly creeping towards a pretty quick half-century at the other end.

He clips wonderfully through mid-wicket off Josh Hull and moves onto 45 from 52 deliveries.

  14. Postpublished at 17:29 BST 10 April

    Surrey 375-4 v Leics

Seeing it like a beach ball...

Not even a bad ball from Josh Hull and Jamie Smith has still just leant on it and pushed it down the ground for four.

Rather demoralising for the Leicestershire bowling attack.

Smith is now 160 not out.

Plenty of debate over Jamie Smith for England or not...

I don’t think Jamie Smith has the defence to be a test 3. Keep him at WK, but I think it would still be worthwhile testing whether Bethell could open, as one of the Rew brothers could be a good fit at 3.

    George, London

Re: Chris, Dorset - who are the 12 you speak of? As it stands Smith is in possession and if he continues to score runs will retain it. Gut feeling is Rew will come into the side, with whoever (out of him and Smith) not keeping will open.

    Alwyn, Crumlin

Bonkers to say Jamie Smith must play for England this summer. He let England down badly in the winter with the bat and he can't keep wicket. Re-instate Foakes and as for Bethel he is a generational talent and will very soon be our best batsman.

    Richard, Flintshire

  16. McKinney less than 10 away from double hundredpublished at 17:28 BST 10 April

    Glos v Durham 383-2

Still 20 overs to go this evening, and Durham look in the mood for runs.

Ben McKinney has 191 and is nine away from a maiden double century.

At the other end, David Bedingham has classily racked up 37 in an unbroken partnership of 72.

  17. Postpublished at 17:27 BST 10 April

    Notts 279 v Glamorgan 24-2

Glamorgan just slowly trying to rebuild after losing two very early wickets.

They plod onto 24-2 from 11 overs.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:27 BST 10 April

    Thompson c Carson b Crocombe 21 (Sussex v Warwickshire 263-9)

Another for Henry Crocombe! 3-42 off 15.1 overs.

Jordan Thompson loves to tee off with the bat, hence his Hobart Hurricances Big Bash contract a few winters back and his T20 Blast cameos.

He gets 21 at a run-a-ball before holing out in ungainly fashion.

Can Ethan Bamber and Michael Booth get 37 runs for the last wicket to notch a bonus second bonus point?

I doubt it but if they are out soon, they could give Sussex's opening bats a nasty spell of 10-15 overs to face before close!

  19. new ball

New ballpublished at 17:27 BST 10 April

    Lancs 314-8 v Derbys

Mo Abbas has a new ball in hand at the start of the 83rd over and he has Paul Coughlin in his sights with two Lancs wickets to get.

Shoaib Bashir will have to be prised off at the other end but surely he won't get the new ball to bowl with, will he?

  20. Postpublished at 17:22 BST 10 April

    Essex 147 v Somerset 90-4

Lewis Goldsworthy is doing exactly what Will Smeed wants him to do, even though they could soon be fighting for one spot with Archie Vaughan, and an eventually returning Tom Banton and Tom Kohler-Cadmore in the not-so-distant future.

Eating up time is crucial for Somerset at Essex as the skies grey, taking the shine off the ball so Smeed and the Somerset middle-order can have some fun tomorrow.

World Test Champion Winner Wiaan Mulder is into his fifth over, he has only gone for 12, but crucially has no wickets yet.
