  1. Maximum points for Durhampublished at 18:09 BST 10 April

    Glos v Durham 452-2

Ben McKinney helps himself to yet another legside four as his personal knock reaches 210.

The Durham score ticks past 450 and that is the fifth batting point in the bag.

Complete and utter dominance of bat over ball today.

  2. Postpublished at 18:06 BST 10 April

    Lancs 350-9 v Derbys

An edge through the slip cordon off Zak Chappell from Jimmy Anderson races down to third man for a single and Lancs do get to a third batting bonus point.

Not much chance of them getting to a fourth you would have thought but who knows. It won't be tonight if they do with just five overs to go to the close.

  3. Close of play at Hovepublished at 18:05 BST 10 April

    Sussex 17-0 v Warwickshire 267

The groundstaff hung around for a while after the play was halted midway through the fifth over, they did not instantly cover the square.

The umpires hung around a while too but have now just called it off for the day.

Sussex whittled through the Warwickshire top order thanks to wickets from four of their eight bowlers used, but Kai Smith and Chris Woakes dug them out of a hole to reach a bonus batting point that seemed miles away at lunchtime.

Once they fell, there was little resistance from the Bears tail, allowing Warwickshire a few overs at Dan Hughes and Tom Haines, but the Sussex openers passed their test, slightly helped by the light saving them facing another 9.2 overs on day one.

    Fisher b Scriven 1 (Surrey 401-6 v Leics)

Make that six wickets down for Surrey.

Matt Fisher comes in on nightwatchman duty and it has not worked.

Tom Scriven beats the Fisher defence and clean bowls him. A second wicket for Scriven.

  5. 400 up for Surreypublished at 18:03 BST 10 April

    Surrey 400-5 v Leics

Quite the performance by Surrey to get four batting points on the board on day one with only five wickets down.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:02 BST 10 April

    Stanley lbw b Chappell 10 (Lancs 349-9)

Zak Chappell fires down a fairly straight ball and Mitch Stanley misses it trying to turn it to leg. Not much doubt about that one.

Lancs remain a run shy of the third batting point and Jimmy Anderson is the man charged with taking them to it.

The captain and all round legend comes to the wicket to chants of "Oh Jimmy, Jimmy".

  7. Bad light stops playpublished at 18:02 BST 10 April

    Sussex 17-0 v Warwickshire 267

The floodlights are showing four shadows on most of the 15 human beings on the field.

They are not even allowed to complete the fifth over as the light meters come out.

Just gone 18.00 GMT so it would be surprising if they were to come back at all tonight.

9.2 overs, the minimum overs still officially remaining.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:01 BST 10 April

    ul Hassan b Tongue 27 (Notts 279 v Glamorgan 46-3)

A big wicket right near the end of the day for Notts!

Full, straight and fast yorker by Josh Tongue and Zain ul Hassan cannot react quick enough to get bat on ball.

It sneaks under the bat and clatters into the stumps.

  9. Durham record for McKinneypublished at 17:58 BST 10 April

    Glos v Durham 416-2

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

At 21 years and 188 days, Ben McKinney has become the youngest double centurion for Durham.

He has beaten the record set by Cameron Steel at Leicester, in 2017, when he was 21 years and 328 days.

I can't think of any scares for him today. He's played some really attacking strokes. The knock took 233 balls and included 33 fours and three sixes.

However, he has been much more watchful and studious since the players went off for rain just after 4.30pm. That was about a 20-minute delay.

McKinney and David Bedingham have also put on 106 for the third wicket, with Bedingham on 56. It's the 61st time he's got there in first-class cricket.

The new ball has just been taken, but even with the lights on, it's really gloomy in Bristol. There are 11 overs left tonight - if the conditions hold!

  10. Bad light stops play at Canterburypublished at 17:56 BST 10 April

    Kent v Northants 409-1

The light must be bad as the conditions are not dangerous for batting in Canterbury, with Luke Procter and Calvin Harrison both unbeaten and well past 100.

    Their partnership is worth 175.

Jamie Smith fist bumps Ben Foakes while batting for SurreyImage source, Shutterstock

With Jamie Smith scoring 166 for Surrey today, the England debate rumbles on. Keep them coming...

Smith is an excellent batsman, just get him to play his normal game and not listen to Stokes. He has another ten years in the England team.

    Dave, Sussex

At the risk of being a downer. Smith scored a ton on a dead Edgbaston (failing the only period it did anything), and now on a famously flat Oval, and in an innings where many have got runs. You've still got to get them, but hardly challenging times...

    Simon, Liverpool

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:54 BST 10 April

    Smith c R Patel b Green 166 (Surrey 398-5 v Leics)

A phenomenal innings finally comes to an end for Jamie Smith.

Ben Green comes back into the attack and strikes with the first ball of his new spell.

Green gets a bit of movement on it outside off and it's just enough to tempt Smith into the drive.

It catches the outside edge and Rishi Patel takes the catch at slip.

  13. Postpublished at 17:52 BST 10 April

    Sussex 9-0 v Warwickshire 267

England Lions skipper for that disappointing match at Lilac Hill in November, Tom Haines gets underway with a boundary off Chris Woakes.

Slower going than against Grace Road, but more favourable bowling conditions than then.

  14. Postpublished at 17:51 BST 10 April

    Notts 279 v Glamorgan 45-2

    A boundary!

Few and far between in this Glamorgan innings - just the fourth so far - but Zain ul Hassan flashes Dillon Pennington through point for four and that will do nicely for the visitors.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:50 BST 10 April

    Bean b Abbott 1 (Yorks 7-1 v Hants 251)

And Finlay is finally a has Bean...

Kyle Abbott has bowled a nice spell here but Adam Lyth and Bean seemed intent on reaching the close in tact not caring whether anyone was still awake to see it.

Seven runs in 11 overs was partly down to decent bowling but a lack of intent was a contributing factor as well.

Bean seems to have lost track of his off-stump here and Abbott nips one back off the seam and finds it with the Yorkshire opener offering no stroke.

  16. Postpublished at 17:50 BST 10 April

    Notts 279 v Glamorgan 41-2

Very steady if not glamourous stuff from Glamorgan at the moment, but they've done well to ride the early Notts storm.

Skipper Kiran Carlson (12*) and Zain ul Hassan (22*) are looking to build a platform for the visitors.

  17. 200 runs

200 for Ben McKinneypublished at 17:50 BST 10 April

    Glos v Durham 416-2

What a day for Ben McKinney!

He has raced past his previous best of 153 to record a maiden first-class 200.

Yes, the bowling has left a little to be desired, but he got in and he has totally cashed in as any aspiring batter must do.

The 21-year-old lofts Ollie Price gloriously into the offside for four. It's a 33rd four to go with three boundaries.

Players have been asked to score big runs early in the summer to thrust themselves into England contention and McKinney has done so in this 233-ball knock.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:49 BST 10 April

    Rew c Pepper b Harmer 48 (Essex 147 v Somerset 114-5)

James Rew falls to a pretty decent delivery from Simon Harmer, just taking the outside edge, well it has to be a pretty decent piece of cricket to get this class act out.

Think of the incredible Kyle Verreyne catch that brought his wicket last week, too.

Rew scored at a very healthy strike-rate too, Somerset fans just selfishly hoping England's covering selectors or whoever is Luke Wright's current replacement were not looking.

Lewis Goldsworthy has just had a lot more of the strike of late and reached 15 having been on four and nine for a good while, but Somerset still looking to just bat, and stand-in skip Craig Overton will probably be less aggressive than normal.

He scored 60 and 18 and was not dismissed in either innings last week.

  19. 6 runs

Six for Foakespublished at 17:49 BST 10 April

    Surrey 395-4 v Leics

Big from Ben Foakes as Josh Hull gets his length a bit too short and gets full punishment.

Foakes rocks back and pulls for six over mid-wicket. Right out of the middle of the bat, that one.

  20. 50 runs

50 for David Bedinghampublished at 17:48 BST 10 April

    Glos v Durham 409-2

David Bedingham effortlessly cuts for four to the short offside boundary and that is a 61st first-class half-century for the strokemaker.

And he has made it look easy, requiring 76 balls to do it.
