    Elgar c Ball b Lammonby 41 (Essex 77-2 v Somerset)

Last match was crying out for a bit of Tom Lammonby left-arm swing with the still newish cherry, but Somerset persisted with their main seamers and Jack Leach.

Josh Thomas got the final over of the match before shaking hands, but this is not a last resort change.

He opened the bowling many times in the T20 Blast remember.

This is not his best ball though, short and down leg, Dean Elgar uncharacteristically tries to hit him aerially and is caught at deep square leg!

Massive bonus breakthrough for Somerset just before lunch!

  2. Postpublished at 12:57 BST 10 April

    Surrey 107-2 v Leics

Text book stuff from Ollie Pope as Ben Green sends down a half-volley and Pope gets onto the front foot to drive with precision down the ground for four.

Not to give Pope the commentator's curse, but he's ticking along nicely (31*). Jamie Smith is 41* at the other end and Surrey will be happy with their work so far in this first session.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:57 BST 10 April

    Prest lbw b Hill 35 (Yorks v Hants 76-2)

This has nipped back quite a bit and hit him just on the knee roll and George Hill has his man.

Yorks will be delighted to break this partnership just before lunch and that looks a decent call from the umpire after watching the replay.

Prest felt that might have been just missing leg but there was a clear sight of the leg stump as he is hit and his look to the heavens is as much in frustration at letting a start slip as the decision.

    Notts 100-5 v Glamorgan

Zain ul Hassan is on for Glamorgan and he starts with a beauty, beating the bat of Liam Patterson-White and flashing through to the keeper just past off stump.

  5. McKinney motoringpublished at 12:54 BST 10 April

    Glos v Durham 138-0

We have less than 10 minutes until lunch.

Durham opener and England hopeful Ben McKinney has 82 and has hit 16 boundaries already this morning. Surely he can't make it to three figures before lunch?

  6. 100 runs

100 up for Nottspublished at 12:52 BST 10 April

    Notts 100-5 v Glamorgan

Jack Haynes pushes away through the off-side for a couple off Timm van der Gugten and Notts move onto 100.

A good effort to get to three figures in the first session, but it's come at an almighty cost with half the batting line-up already sitting with their feet up in the pavilion.

  7. 100 runs

100 up for Surreypublished at 12:49 BST 10 April

    Surrey 100-2 v Leics

Thank you very much, says Jamie Smith. It's short and wide from Ben Green and Smith obliges, cutting away for four.

He then slams the next ball through extra cover for another boundary.

And make that a hat-trick of fours. Beautiful cover drive.

Smith and Ollie Pope have now put on a 50 partnership and that's the 100 up.

  8. 50 runs

50 up for Warwickshirepublished at 12:49 BST 10 April

    Sussex v Warwickshire 50-3

Jack Carson, a man who many believe should have got more attention from England selectors in recent years, will get his first bowl with enough time for two or maybe even three overs before lunch.

Left-handed Rob Yates is only 23* having been there from the start, he has just one slip in place to contend with from Carson.

  9. 100 runs

100 partnership for Northantspublished at 12:48 BST 10 April

    Kent v Northants 104-0

A half-tracker from the part-time slow bowling of Tawanda Muyeye is given the treatment it deserves by Ricardo Vasconcelos and that four signals the century opening stand.

Luke Procter has been more watchful at the other end, making his way to 36, but this is super stuff from Northants.

Let's not dwell too much on the Kent bowling, though.

  10. Postpublished at 12:46 BST 10 April

    Notts 95-5 v Glamorgan

Who saw this coming this morning?

Newly-promoted Glamorgan are well on top of defending champions Nottinghamshire.

The hosts really need both Jack Haynes and Liam Patterson-White to hold up an end here to stop the wickets tumbling.

  11. Postpublished at 12:45 BST 10 April

    Yorks v Hants 64-1

Tom Prest and Nick Gubbins looked in decent nick against Essex last week with an 81 partnership in the second innings, and they are up to 63 here at Headingley.

Gubbins finishes the 24th over by pouncing on an overpitched delivery from Jhye Richardson and driving through mid off for four.

There are about 18 minutes from lunch and the visitors are looking pretty comfortable on a pitch that is not yet revealing any great terrors. After putting Hants in Yorks will be hoping for another wicket before the break.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:43 BST 10 April

    Verreynne c Kellaway b van der Gugten 14 (Notts 95-5 v Glamorgan)

The wickets keep on falling at Trent Bridge!

Kyle Verreynne has tried to get on with it for Nottinghamshire but it's proven to be his downfall.

Verreynne drives on the up outside off stump from Timm van der Gugten but hammers it straight to Ben Kellaway at backward point.

Three wickets in the bag for van der Gugten.

  13. 50 runs

50 partnership for the third wicketpublished at 12:42 BST 10 April

    Essex 64-2 v Somerset

26 of them from the blade of Dean Elgar.

Is Elgar still the best opener in the County Championship having retired from South Africa duty far too early surely?

No Tom Westley for this match remember, Sonny Baker inflicted that damage and made Noah Thain the first injury replacement of the County Championship.

Bizarrely, Thain was chosen over Luc Benkenstein last week as an apparent like-for-like replacement, but it is t'other way around this time.

Spin/batting all-rounder Benkenstein was not deemed appropriate to replace Westley who bats and bowls a bit of part-time spin, but seam-bowling all-rounder Thain was!

  14. 50 runs

50 for Ricardo Vasconcelospublished at 12:40 BST 10 April

    Kent v Northants 89-0

Nice stuff from Ricardo Vasconcelos as he brings up his first half-century of the summer.

In soft sunny conditions at Canterbury, he tucks a couple away behind square off Jas Singh to complete a 73-ball 50.

  15. 50 runs

50 for Bohannon and Harrispublished at 12:39 BST 10 April

    Lancs 62-2 v Derbys

That was a loose shot and a big miss from Marcus Harris who throws his hands at short wide one from Ben Aitchison, the ball flying through the slip cordon.

The batter walks away and unfastens his gloves as if to reset and remind himself not to throw this away.

Josh Bohannon, who was reprieved on 29 with a drop from Martin Andersson off Zak Chappell, nudges a two and the fifty partnership is duly notched.

  16. Postpublished at 12:38 BST 10 April

    Notts 93-4 v Glamorgan

Lovely shot from Jack Haynes as he drives straight down the ground off Andy Gorvin for four.

Notts are creeping towards three figures this morning.

  17. Postpublished at 12:35 BST 10 April

    Sussex v Warwickshire 37-3

Dean Elgar has one less run than all of the five Warwickshire batters who have been at the crease so far today at Hove.

Credit to the Sussex bowlers rather than rinsing the Bears batters though.

All four are right-arm seamers so far and despite the lack of variety they have hit the right areas and even in sunny conditions have not made it easy for the away side to score runs.

Bears still in survival mode, scoring at 1.73 an over currently.

  18. Postpublished at 12:33 BST 10 April

    Essex 59-2 v Somerset

Not quite a dropped catch, just short of Tom Abell who has been placed at first slip with Tom Kohler-Cadmore struggling with that finger blow still.

Dean Elgar (36*), with his nuggety-style that Somerset know all-too-well of, plays with soft hands and gets away with that one off Josh Shaw who has 0-12 off his first five overs in a Somerset Championship shirt.

  19. Postpublished at 12:33 BST 10 April

    Notts 89-4 v Glamorgan

Think the approach from Kyle Verreynne is pretty clear for Notts. Get on with it regardless.

Two fours in a row off Ryan Hadley - the second of which he punches down the ground to the mid-off boundary.

Verreynne is onto 14* from eight balls.

  20. Postpublished at 12:31 BST 10 April

    Surrey 73-2 v Leics

New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel is on for his first bowling spell for Leicestershire on debut today.

Ollie Pope gives him a warm welcome, pushing down to the long on boundary for four to go with a couple of singles in the over.

Six runs off Patel's first over in County Championship cricket this season.
