  1. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:12 BST 10 April

    Yorks v Hants 99-3

Jack White finds the edge and it flies fast and low to Finlay Bean's right at third slip.

Too fast and slightly too low, as it happens, as the ball bursts through the attempted grab and scuttles off to third man area.

Ben Brown, who was on one at the time, runs through for a couple but that is a life used up.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:11 BST 10 April

    Allison c Abell b Pretorius 49 (Essex 105-5 v Somerset)

He does not reach his 50!

Not quite the extra ball from the no-ball, but the fifth ball is the golden one with still two legitimate deliveries to come in Somerset's 39th.

One run short, Charlie Allison, who looked good in this exact fixture back in September, edges to Tom Abell at first slip off Miggy Pretorius.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore dropped a very similar chance last week, but with him still off the field with that finger injury, Abell uses great hamstring flexibility to get low underneath the ball.

  3. Postpublished at 14:09 BST 10 April

    Essex 104-4 v Somerset

Somerset have had a terrible habit of bowling many no-balls in Championship cricket in recent years, captain Lewis Gregory the serial offender. But in his absence, there was not one bowled in the first match.

Miggy Pretorius was second worst of the attack last season, and he has just bowled Somerset's first of the season, overstepping again.

Well done to Ben McKinney but let’s not get carried away. He is playing in Div 2 against Div 2 bowling. He is one for the future without doubt but not in the same class as Sibley and Hameed.

    Chris, Hants

All true, Chris. But having been on the England Lions tour of Australia in the winter, we know that Ben McKinney is well regarded.

Then it's up to the selectors to decide if he is scoring easy runs or not.

  5. 50 runs

50 for Marcus Harrispublished at 14:08 BST 10 April

    Lancs 126-2 v Derbys

Lovely on drive from Marcus Harris off Zak Chappell and that is the half century (53). It has taken 91 balls and contained seven fours.

That has been an assured and confident knock from the Australian and his Lancs career is back on the rails at the first time of asking, if it was ever off them.

  6. Postpublished at 14:07 BST 10 April

    Surrey 128-2 v Leics

Typical, really. Leicestershire haven't got a second slip in place but they'll wish they had now...

Jamie Smith edges through the gap between first slip and gully off Ian Holland and it runs through for a couple more.

That may well have carried to the imaginary second slip.

  7. 100 runs

100 for Essexpublished at 14:06 BST 10 April

    Essex 102-4 v Somerset

The bowling has looked less threatening post lunch.

Miggy Pretorius did take the first three Notts wickets to fall last match, but has been less effective thus far at Chelmsford.

He and Jake Ball have allowed Charlie Allison enough opportunities to overtake Dean Elgar as the top scorer in the match and near his personal half-century, 49*.

  8. Postpublished at 14:05 BST 10 April

    Surrey 125-2 v Leics

Ollie Pope is getting in on the boundary action for Surrey and this is starting to look a little ominous for Leicestershire.

Pope goes on the attack to Ian Holland and gets forward to drive powerfully down the ground for four.

  9. Pluses for both sides in morningpublished at 14:04 BST 10 April

    Yorkshire v Hampshire 95-3

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

There were some pluses on both sides during that morning session.

Yorkshire bowled very well. They asked a lot of questions of the batters, and will consider themselves a little unfortunate to not have picked up more wickets.

Jhye Richardson on debut looked strong and hit the deck and bat hard.

From a Hampshire point of the batters needed to show some fight after showing very little last week against Essex and they did just that.

Hardly a false shot in sight and Tom Prest once more looked pleasing on the eye before he got another beauty, this time from George Hill that nipped back and trapped him lbw.

Notts clearly aren't batting well but I bet that Tongue, O'Neill, Pennington et al are licking their lips at the prospect of a post-tea barrage with the ball.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:59 BST 10 April

    Gubbins c Bean b White 43 (Yorks v Hants 95-3)

Jack White has put that down a touch fuller than he has been bowling and he has the edge.

Nick Gubbins has offered a few chances during his innings and this time he gifts a regulation catch to Finlay Bean at second slip.

That is two wickets either side of the lunch break and Yorks now have sight of a middle order which proved fragile last week.

  12. Postpublished at 13:59 BST 10 April

    Notts 124-6 v Glamorgan

Nottinghamshire keep the scoreboard ticking along nicely with a second four of the Timm van der Gugten over for Jack Haynes, rocking back and punching through the covers to the rope.

The run-rate is 4.28. The wicket-rate, though... well... that's the major problem for Notts.

100 for Ben McKinneypublished at 13:59 BST 10 April

    Glos v Durham 170-0

Australian bowler Gabe Bell is short and wide and Ben McKinney does what he has done since 11am this morning and he dispatches it to the fence disdainfully for four.

The Durham opener and England hopeful it raising his bat on day one at two o'clock, having hit 18 fours and two sixes in his 106-ball knock.

A fifth first-class century for the 21-year-old from Sunderland and a great way to make the selectors take notice.

  14. 50 runs

50 for Jamie Smithpublished at 13:55 BST 10 April

    Surrey 118-2 v Leics

Jamie Smith with his bat raised for SurreyImage source, Shutterstock

Jamie Smith cuts away for a single down to deep backward point and that brings up his half century.

    A fine knock so far.

  15. Postpublished at 13:54 BST 10 April

    Surrey 117-2 v Leics

Jamie Smith flashes away the first boundary of the session, driving Josh Hull through the covers for four.

A perfect technique there and he's one away from 50.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:53 BST 10 April

    Yates c Clark b Hudson-Prentice 36 (Sussex v Warwickshire 83-4)

Having worked so hard to get this far, Rob Yates dangles his bat out away from his body, allowing Fynn Hudson-Prentice to square him up and have him caught comfortably at second slip.

FHP seems to be bowling slightly quicker at the start of this season, the result of a good winter's work in the gym!

  17. 50 runs

50 for Luke Procterpublished at 13:52 BST 10 April

    Kent v Northants 133-0

Luke Procter is squared up by Keith Dudgeon but the ball squirts through low past the slip cordon and down to the vacant boundary at deep third for four.

That helps him to collect a well-constructed half-century to go along with his partner Ricardo Vasconcelos, who is on 77.

  18. Postpublished at 13:51 BST 10 April

    Notts 112-6 v Glamorgan

It appears the Notts approach seems to be to keep on going for it, regardless of wickets dropping like flies.

Fergus O'Neill hammers two fours off Timm van der Gugten inside the first three balls he's faced.

An entertaining over with a bit of everything.

  19. Postpublished at 13:50 BST 10 April

    Surrey 112-2 v Leics

A gentle couple of opening overs after lunch for Surrey who have added just two to their score.

They're set fair at the moment if they can pick up where they left off.

  20. 150 runs

150 partnership for Durhampublished at 13:50 BST 10 April

    Glos v Durham 151-0

Ben McKinney pulls a very deliberate short ball, aka, a long hop, from Will Williams out to deep square and that takes him to 90 not out and this opening partnership past 150.

While Williams appears to have been ticked off for running down the danger area of the pitch.
