  1. Sco 25-2published at 4 overs

Michael Jones responds by finding the rope behind square from a fullish delivery from Jamie Overton.

He has his captain Richie Berrington for company now and this pair will need to be at the top of their games today if Scotland are to recover from the early setback.

Finding Jofra Archer's new ball partner has been a problem for Harry Brook, all-rounders Jamie Overton and Sam Curran have both struggled inside the powerplay at T20I level in the last two years.

    • Sam Curran - 4 wickets in 16 overs - 43.2 average, 10.81 economy
    • Jamie Overton - 2 wickets in 10 overs - 49.0 average, 9.80 economy

    Sco 18-2

Jamie Overton goes short down the leg side and it whistles past Michael Jones and into the gloves of Jos Buttler.

England think Jones has gloved it and sends it upstairs but replays suggest otherwise. They lose a review early.

A hugely significant blow for Scotland, not the just significance of it being Brandon McMullen but also the stage of the game.

All of a sudden 18-2 is a hugely different prospect and challenge on the cards for Richie Berrington and Michael Jones.

It's the extra bounce and pace of Archer. It's a decent sized boundary and Phil Salt takes a really easy catch.

Two wickets inside the powerplay, this is important progress for England.

  6. Sco 18-2published at 3 overs

Just the start England and Jofra Archer needed!

Two wickets in the space of five runs during that over.

That's a great wicket for England early in the game.

Brandon McMullen comes to the crease now. He is Scotland's pillar in their batting line up. If Scotland are to make a big score and cause England some problems, this partnership and McMullen in particular will be key.

That will make Jofra Archer very happy. George Munsey loves to play square of the wicket, loves to use the pace but he was trying to hit this one a long way in front of square.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.3 overs

    Munsey c Banton b Archer 4 (Sco 18-1)

    England find the breakthrough early!

Having already pulled Jofra Archer for a four off the first ball, George Munsey goes after the pacer again but this time, only manages to top-edge it.

It's goes high in the air and Tom Banton settles underneath to complete a comfortable catch to sent back the Scotland opener.

This surface is good, you can tell already how quickly the ball flies away when it comes out the middle of the bat.

So England play Scotland in two sports today. I am actually more confident of us winning the rugby. Never thought I would ever say that.

  13. Sco 13-0published at 2 overs

Jamie Overton picked up two wickets against West Indies and makes a decent start here too.

Then a show of intent from Michael Jones as he whips the England pacer through mid-wicket - that was well-timed and nicely placed.

There's history wherever you turn in Kolkata - a ground that once hosted a match in front of 120,000.

Downstairs in the clubhouse is the shirt Sourav Ganguly whipped off in that famous ODI against England at Lord's in 2002.

George Munsey and Michael Jones provided a solid platform for Scotland opening the batting in their big win against Italy.

The Scots will hope the pair can provide another steady start in this crucial contest today.

Both sets of players have been out in the middle for the national anthems and there's a decent crowd in Kolkata to cheer them on.
