India are absolutely flying. By setting the defensive fields New Zealand are telegraphing what they're going to bowl to the India batters.

The joy of six for India at the moment.

The head of New Zealand's players are spinning here.

In the powerplay in this tournament, we have seen 24+ in a over on three occasions - India have been responsible for two of them.

To his credit, the guy on the PA system is at least trying to start some chants for New Zealand. He's not having much success.

Sanju Samson powerfully pulls Matt Henry into the stands for six.

India motoring now. A couple of fortuitous boundaries, but just able to up their tempo. The depth of the batting they have means that these two have the absolute freedom to just keep going and going and going.

And I expect them to do just that.

  9. Ind 51-0published at 4 overs

A miserable first over for Lockie Ferguson.

He strays on to the pads of Sanju Samson with the final ball of his set and the India opener clips it off his pads for four through fine leg.

India are firing all cylinders now.

India were too tentative in the 50-over final against Australia here in 2023. For those first couple of overs you just wondered but not anymore...

I feel for the bowlers here. That shot from Sanju Samson feels completely unjust!

A leading edge for six off Sanju Samson's bat goes for six behind backward point!

    Lockie Ferguson can only grimace.

This looks like an absolute belter of a pitch. Both players have consistently found the middle of the bat, there's runs to be had.

He's like a computer character, Glenn Phillips. He has one pace, you set him off running and he hurls himself towards the ball.

  17. Ind 27-0published at 3 overs

Abhishek Sharma pulls Jacob Duffy square but it comes up just short of the diving Glenn Phillips.

Sanju Samson pummels Duffy back over his head for four a couple of balls later.

After a circumspect start India have discovered their mojo.

That is a good start from the New Zealand bowlers and a watchful circumspect one from the India openers.

  20. Ind 12-0published at 2 overs

Glenn Phillips tosses one and Abhishek Sharma drives through the covers but an outstanding diving effort from Daryl Mitchell on the rope prevents the boundary.

Solid start from the Black Caps.
