The new bat doesn't work for Finn Allen!

The opener drops back into his crease and hits Axar Patel through long-on again - this time Tilak Varma is out there and Allen's shot finds him right on the rope.

No century partnership for the New Zealand openers today.

  2. NZ 31-0published at 2.3 overs

An early sight of spin for India as Axar Patel comes into the attack.

New Zealand take singles off his first two balls, before Finn Allen muscles the ball through long-on for his first boundary.

The opener then immediately calls for a new bat.

  3. NZ 25-0published at 2 overs

And now consecutive fours to end the over.

Tim Seifert drives Hardik Pandya through mid-off and then goes a little straighter off the next delivery, searing the ball past the bowler's head.

21 runs from the over, 20 of them Seifert's.

A mistimed shot by Finn Allen. Shivam Dube had the ball, he had his eyes on it and all the time of the world but it slips through.

Is that the break Allen and New Zealand need?

  9. dropped catch

    NZ 4-0

A chance for India in the first over!

Finn Allen balloons Arshdeep Singh's penultimate delivery high into the Ahmedabad sky with a leading edge and Shivam Dube backpedals to take the catch.

He appears to be well set, stood still with his fingers up at shoulder height, but the ball simply flies past his hands and hits the deck.

Allen, who'd whacked his pads in frustration after playing the shot, runs two then takes a single off the over's final delivery to retain the strike.

    Thanks Tim.

    Maybe I won't - I am rather unpredictable.

India's bowlers are out on the field conducting their warm-up drills - here's how Jimmy Neesham, New Zealand's most successful bowler in the first innings, took his wickets.

Note to all t20 teams. Dont let India bat first! But the question is does New Zealand have a Jacob Bethell in their team?

Let's hope the world's best opening partnership can get the NZ innings off to a flier.

Incredible display from India, 256 to target will be a great game.

New Zealand are going to have to be perfect here. But it's a lot better than it could have been which is strange to say when India have scored 255.
