In any other match, in any other game situation, Daryl Mitchell would hit that ball for six. But with the pressure of the scoreboard in a World Cup final he finds the fielder.

    Mitchell c Kishan b Patel 17 (NZ 124-6)

A third catch for Ishan Kishan!

Daryl Mitchell launches Axar Patel's delivery straight into the fielder's hands at deep mid-wicket.

  3. dropped catch

Santner dropped on 26published at 12.2 overs

    NZ 123-5

A couple of embarrassing balls for Hardik Pandya.

He fails to take a simple catch at backward point to dismiss Mitchell Santner off Axar Patel.

New Zealand don't score off that delivery, but the New Zealand captain adds four from the next ball as Hardik misfields - that moves Santner to 30.

Teams have been unable to keep up with India’s six hitting throughout the tournament, and it’s ultimately got them into the position they are in right now. They have hit, on average 12 sixes per match - four more than their opponents in today’s final.

Teams seem to be reading Varun Chakravarthy a little more now as Mitchell Santner showed with those two sixes. It will still take a miracle from New Zealand to change the result from here.

  6. NZ 119-5published at 12 overs

    137 needed from 48 balls

    Consecutive sixes for Mitchell Santner!

He sends Varun Chakravarthy's fourth and fifth deliveries over long-off then long-on.

Singles off the rest of the over - it's still not enough to stop the required run-rate climbing, it's now at 17.12.

Daryl MItchell was not happy with Arshdeep Singh about that and rightly so.

  8. NZ 103-5published at 11 overs

    153 needed from 54 balls

    Bit of a flare up!

Bowler Arshdeep Singh collects Daryl Mitchell's edge and attempts to throw down the stumps, but his aim is substantially off and he flings the ball straight at the New Zealand batter.

No hint of intent, but Mitchell is furious and walks down the track shouting angrily.

He's swiftly placated by umpire Richard Illingworth and India captain Suryakumar Yadav, and Arshdeep and Mitchell shake hands at the end of the over.

New Zealand are going to need plenty more of that from Daryl Mitchell!

    NZ 101-5published at 10.3 overs

    Caught but over the rope!

Daryl Mitchell slams Arshdeep Singh to backward square - Ishan Kishan takes the catch above his head, but has nowhere to go stumbling back and he crosses the boundary.

Mitchell then brings up New Zealand's hundred by sending the following delivery flying over the ropes at mid-wicket.

  12. NZ 88-5published at 10 overs

    168 needed from 60 balls

A tidy over from Hardik Pandya, just five runs from it as we reach the half-way mark.

New Zealand need 16.80 runs an over - they're currently going at 8.80, although it's virtually immaterial at this stage.

  13. NZ 83-5published at 9 overs

Mitchell Santner is very lucky to survive his second ball.

Varun Chakravarthy's delivery slips just over the stumps, beats Sanju Samson as well and heads away for four byes.

The New Zealand captain then picks up a first four through third.

Mathematically it's possible for New Zealand but in reality it's impossible.

Tim Seifert has gone, New Zealand are gone and India will be partying all night long. Supporters everywhere you look at the Narendra Modi Stadium are up on their feet.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 8.1 overs

    Seifert c Kishan b Varun 52 (NZ 72-5)

Tim Seifert goes, and whatever remained of New Zealand's hopes likely departs with him.

The opener goes to lump Varun Chakravarthy over the mid-wicket boundary - Ishan Kishan runs round on the rope and takes the catch, lobbing the ball into the air while he ensures he doesn't exit the field then re-taking the grab.

Varun Chakravarthy’s performances have fallen away greatly since he dominated the group stages.

A couple of singles to end the over.

Hardik Pandya gets told off for trying to gee up the crowd in the midst of his run-up - India are already in celebration mode.

If New Zealand were to get anywhere near they needed their top order to fire, but it's been good bowling from India who can feel their hands on the trophy.
