For a long time, it is batters that India has always counted on in big games.

But fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has performed every time when his team needed it and has often been the main difference between two teams.

As batters dominate the game of T20, Bumrah shows why bowlers are the key - why dot balls matter as much as wickets.

India have grown as the tournament has gone on. They are the strongest and best.

  3. NZ 152-8published at 17 overs

    Target 256

After 22 balls without a boundary, Mitchell Santner finds the fence off Axar Patel's penultimate delivery.

He brings up his side's 150, clipping the ball through mid-wicket.

Arshdeep finishes with figures of 0-32.

It's staggering how much Jasprit Bumrah influences games and not only that, but he does so in all three formats.

  5. NZ 143-8published at 16 overs

    113 needed from 24 balls

Another yorker for the hat-trick ball... blocked out.

Lockie Ferguson takes a single, before Mitchell Santner adds a run of his own.

    One step further still!

Jasprit Bumrah is on a hat-trick - he uproots the stumps of Matt Henry, the batter backing away to try and clear out the yorker and exposing his wicket.

India are two wickets away, with two balls left in the over.

    Neesham b Bumrah 8 (NZ 141-7)

    Bowled him!

A slow yorker with a dollop of dip from Jasprit Bumrah, that's enough to clean up Jimmy Neesham who misses with his big heave.

India move one step closer to a successful title defence.

When this is all done and dusted India will become the first side to successfully defend a T20 World Cup and become the first side to win it on home soil as well.

In terms of sixes per innings we have seen an average of 7.4 in this tournament, 2.2 more than the next highest T20 World Cup (5.2 - 2010 - West Indies).

  12. NZ 139-6published at 15 overs

    117 needed from 30 balls

Very much a waiting game now.

A second over without a boundary as Axar Patel concedes just five runs off his third outing.

23.40 runs an over required for New Zealand - not a problem, here comes Jasprit Bumrah...

New Zealand needed to make India feel the pressure with the ball, and were not able to do that. They had no answers. They will look back and ask whether they could have targeted the stumps more, what tactics could they have used rather than hoping a player would just hole out.

Nobody has been able to win a home World Cup. It takes a lot of courage. The heart of Indians took a lot toll in semi-final so they will not mind a win like this.

Just six runs off the over.

That's Hardik Pandya finished with figures of 1-36.

Meanwhile the players will take a drink.

    NZ 128-6

    Very, very tight.

The ball tracking has the delivery landing ever so marginally outside the line of leg stump.

Just a fraction shifted and that would have been a very good shout.

The ball hit Mitchell Santner on the full so the only thing which will save him is did it him outside the line of leg stump.

  19. India reviewpublished at 13.1 overs

    Another wicket down?

The umpire doesn't think so, but Hardik Pandya reckons he has Mitchell Santner lbw with a full delivery.

India are going to take a look.

  20. NZ 128-6published at 13 overs

    Need 128 from 42 balls

Jimmy Neesham, the best of New Zealand's bowlers today, comes in and picks up four immediately, sweeping Axar Patel over short fine.
