Liam Dawson sends down his ninth over, costing just one single.

10 overs to go - this partnership is worth 67.

  2. SL 190-4published at 39 overs

Kusal Mendis is continuing, but he looks rather uncomfortable.

He takes a single to mid-wicket to end the over.

  3. SL 189-4published at 38.3 overs

    Mendis 66, Liyanage 33

Ah, bit of trouble for Kusal Mendis.

The Sri Lanka batter is on the ground, seemingly nursing his back.

He'd just driven Sam Curran through the covers for four, then went down after the following delivery.

I wish Bethell spent more time focusing on developing his game than in the barbers dying his mullet (gosh it looks good though!)

It's exciting to see Rehan Ahmed and Adil Rashid on the same side.

  6. SL 185-4published at 38 overs

Back to Rehan Ahmed again, replacing Jacob Bethell after drinks.

The England spinner rips one past Janith Liyanage's bat and Rehan has a quick chat with his captain about checking for an edge - they decide not to in the end.

Sri Lanka finish the over with consecutive fours, Liyanage attempts a sweep and sees the ball clip his body and go for leg-byes, then nails the shot through backward square.

Kusal Mendis has been much more free-scoring when playing off his back foot today. Off the back foot, he has scored at a strike-rate of 118, a stark contrast to a strike-rate of just 38 while playing off his front foot.

He likes to stay deep, as can be seen from his average strike point of 1.83m from the stumps, which is the second-deepest for any right-handed batter in ODIs in the last couple of years after Tawhid Hridoy.

Before that drinks break, battle lines appeared to be drawn: batters attacking with moving feet and they need to. Can England draw out any false and loose shots?

    SL 175-4published at 37 overs

More rotation of England's bowlers as Sam Curran comes on for Adil Rashid after just one over from the leg spinner.

Janith Liyanage, who is seemingly keen to up the pace of the innings as we approach its conclusion, hits the seamer for four through the covers, bring up the half-century partnership from 60 balls.

A further single moves the Sri Lanka batter to 28 from 36 balls.

Time for drinks, as we watch a middle-aged gentleman throw down some impressive moves in the stands.

I guess with so many options, Brook is well placed to ring the changes but he’s doing a good job in making them so far.

    Hello, where did that come?

Jacob Bethell changes ends to replace Liam Dawson and Janith Liyanage advances down the pitch to launch the young spinner's penultimate ball down the ground for six.

Liyanage then picks up four from the following delivery, heaving aerially out to mid-wicket.

Zak Crawley runs round from square and either loses the ball or perhaps catches himself in two minds deciding whether to try to catch it.

Either way, he makes a mess of it and the ball breaks past him and over ropes.

If you have a slip in place in the 35th over, it tells you the captain is confident and thinks his team is well placed in the game.

We are in that bit of a 50-over game which some think is its downfall. There's nothing much happening but I’m in the camp which enjoys it as it’s the part where you are left wondering who will come out on top: batters with wickets in hand or the bowlers when the batters open up.

  14. Eng 158-4published at 35 overs

England have most definitely stalled Sri Lanka since Kusal Mendis brought up his half-century.

The home side have scored just 15 runs off the last five overs, with two of those coming off this Adil Rashid over.
