New England head coach Mike Vrabel speaking at half-time: "I like that Drake Maye's taking care of the football, other than that tipped ball. He's been able to use his legs to get us in position to score. We just have to finish in the red zone.

"We've going to have to create some pressure [on defence]. We've created some second and long opportunities. We haven't done a great job but we've shown some signs of life at the end."

Los Angeles Chargers 3-6 New England Patriots - second quarter

Two shots to the endzone and nothing doing so with six seconds left, New England have to opt for three.

Andres Borregales steps up for his second field goal attempt of the day and knocks it through.

That will be that for the half.

Good for Drake Maye. The moment he sees those defensive players turning their backs, running with their receivers, he knows there's nothing but green grass in front of him.

We've already talked about it, and whichever quarterback has the better day running the ball may decide this game.

  6. Huge play!published at 02:30 GMT 12 January

Los Angeles Chargers 3-3 New England Patriots - second quarter

    Drake Maye has got wheels!

He scrambles out of the pocket and with the Chargers in man coverage, he has a huge hole in front of him.

Maye takes off for a 37-yard run and the Patriots are in the redzone with 16 seconds left.

K'Lavon Chaisson gets the sack but that's not what happened on this play. This is a coverage sack. These Chargers receivers have got to find a way to get open down the field.

So far we've sign Justin Herbert have enough time to operate. I came in not very impressed with the Chargers' offensive live, but they've done a lot better than I thought.

  8. Sack!published at 02:27 GMT 12 January

    All that for nothing, really.

K'Lavon Chaisson sacks Justin Herbert on third and long and the Chargers will punt.

New England will now get a chance to score before the break with 31 seconds and one timeout remaining.

That decision is the biggest play of the game.

A potential big moment at the end of the first half.

Justin Herbert goes for the quarterback sneak on third and one but does he get there?

One official signals first down and the line judge signals fourth and short.

They are on their own 30-yard line so it's extremely unlikely they go for this if fourth down is the confirmed call.

The Patriots started the season as one of the most explosive offences. They had an amazing 50% completion percentage on deep balls, they were throwing it everywhere. But this is a Chargers defence that simply does not give up those kind of plays.

From time to time, you going to see the quarterback take off, and right now, Drake Maye has had more of an impact running the ball.

  13. Two-minute warningpublished at 02:19 GMT 12 January

Los Angeles Chargers 3-3 New England Patriots

We've reached the two minute warning and the Chargers are slowly edging their way up the field.

It's safe to say that the defences have come to play so in Foxborough.

Great for those that love that side of the game. Not so good for live texters that are needing a bit of a spark to keep the old eyes wide open.

  14. Puntpublished at 02:15 GMT 12 January

Los Angeles Chargers 3-3 New England Patriots - second quarter

A good scramble from Drake Maye got the Patriots to midfield but three passes followed and with only five yards gained, New England are forced to punt.

It's a good punt and has Justin Herbert and his offence pinned inside the 10 when they return to the field.

Around three minutes remaining of the first half.

TreVeyon Henderson's had some of the most electric plays we've seen this season, four times he's had a touchdown run of over 50 yards.

He's a little less of a blocker than Rhamondre Stevenson is, and Stevenson is a more sophisticated route runner so the Patriots have found that balance between those two running backs.

"Expect points galore" I said in my preview post for this one.

There is less than four minutes remaining of the first half and we've had two field goals.

I would once again like to apologise for speaking.

After a solid drive, the Chargers stall inside the 10 again.

A run from Kimani Vidal gets them down to fourth and two on the three-yard line but after the failure on fourth down the first time around, Jim Harbaugh opts for the field goal on this occasion.

Cameron Dicker makes no mistake with the chip shot and we are all tied up.

A nice drive from the Chargers, this.

Kimani Vidal has had a couple of powerful runs and a penalty on the Patriots for a facemask on Vidal's most recent rush has the Chargers in the redzone.

A lovely 19-yard gain for the Chargers as Justin Herbert fires a dart to Ladd McConkey.

Los Angeles have the ball at midfield as they look to get their first points on the board.

  20. 'Tremendous coverage'published at 01:55 GMT 12 January

That was just tremendous coverage. Benjamin St-Juste had perfect coverage and there was just no way to get it in there to Stefon Diggs.
