Los Angeles Rams 13-24 Seattle Seahawks - third quarter

It's a game of three phases, not just offence and defence but special teams too, they all count in this ultimate team sport.

The Rams fired their special teams coordinator in December but it's not helped as that errors was just unacceptable in a Championship game.

And like all champion teams do, Seattle were ruthless in taking advantage of that error, and an 11-point hole is a huge one away at Seattle at the best of times, let alone with a Super Bowl on the line.

Nobody gives Darnold the credit he deserves for doing what he has done with two different teams in back to back years. I think he's elite. That first half shows he has the minerals. Great game so far. Go Seahawks.

Touchdown - Seahawkspublished at 01:31 GMT 26 January

Los Angeles Rams 13-24 Seattle Seahawks - third quarter

Seattle take full advantage on the very first play after the turnover as Sam Darnold hits an unlikely target in Jake Bobo for the 17-yard touchdown.

That's just a third catch of the season for Bobo and it's one that moves his side closer to the Super Bowl after sticking the knife in to a stunned Rams outfit who are reeling after that huge special teams error.

  4. Muffed punt! Seahawks get the ballpublished at 01:30 GMT 26 January

Los Angeles Rams 13-17 Seattle Seahawks - third quarter

Oh no! Disaster for the Rams as Xavier Smith falls over as he's going for the catch and then can't gather the ball in so it bobbles out of his grasp and into the hands of some diving Seahawks special teamers.

The Hawks get it back on the LA 17-yard line.

It's fascinating in my mind that the Rams had the ball with about a minute and a half left [to half-time]. At that point, you're not thinking about scoring, you're thinking about how we go in the half maintaining that three-point lead.

If you get to the 50-yard yard, OK, now let's think about a field goal. If you get to the 20-yard line, now let's think about a touchdown.

They end up doing neither, they punt the ball to Seattle and they put together a great drive. Now they go into the half ahead by four and that's exactly what they want, especially getting the ball at the start of the second half. It was poorly managed and poorly played by the Rams.

Hey, guess what? Jaxon-Smith Njigba just took a nice 12-yard catch for a first down - make that 127 yards now on eight catches.

Los Angeles Rams 13-17 Seattle Seahawks - third quarter

Right then, just 30 minutes away from the Super Bowl and you have to think Seattle are favourites from here - they've got the lead, they've got the ball and they've got the momentum after that fine finish to the first half.

And they've also got Jaxon Smith-Njigba who the Rams just can't cover.

Great point from Steve. The great QBs step up and execute when a small window of opportunity presents itself. We’re yet to see if Darnold has what it takes when the pressure is on. There’s no trophy for going 14-3.

I only see one winner in this, it's been years since I've seem a team as consistently good in offence and defence as the Seahawks!

Great first half that with some big ebb and flow - Seattle started off like a train and then the Rams worked their way back into the game, and eventually into the lead.

But they made a mess of closing out the half, throwing two incompletions to stop the clock on what should've been the final drive of the half.

That gave Seattle far too much time left, and Sam Darnold needed just 34 seconds to go 74 yards and put the Seahawks back in front.

  16. Big mistakepublished at 01:09 GMT 26 January

Los Angeles Rams 13-17 Seattle Seahawks - second quarter

After a great fightback the Rams just shot themselves in the foot at the end of the half. Standing with the ball, the lead and 90 seconds left the first things they had to make sure of was that Seattle wouldn't get the ball back with much time left.

And when they not only failed to score but also failed to take much time off the clock then they left themselves open for that quick strike - not as wide open as the left Jaxon Smith-Njigba though...

I just don't know how you lose track of JSN. When he is in the back field, he is the primary receiving target. None of the alerts came up for the Rams and that is how you can fair catch the ball in the endzone.

Guess who!? A somehow wide open Jaxon Smith-Njigba is left all alone to collect the Sam Darnold touchdown pass.

There's good pass protection for Darnold, and yes Cooper Kupp running underneath takes some attention, but how the Rams just left JSN, one of the most dangerous receivers in the league, just stroll into space is unbelievable.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba runs a lovely route down the middle and Sam Darnold launches a deep ball down to him for a crucial 42-yard gain to get them well into field goal range.

But they're now looking at a touchdown.
