    We were asked: "Why were police cars in Broad Street Bromsgrove at 8pm on Monday?"

    West Mercia Police were called at 19.40 to reports of an altercation involving two groups of young people.

    A spokesman said some of the individuals were being "verbally aggressive". 

    "Several officers were dispatched and a 17-year-old man from Bromsgrove was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. He has been released on bail."

    Eight exotic animal licences have been issued in Herefordshire and Worcestershire over the last two years, showing a a rise in the number of dangerous or wild animal licences issued by local councils in the West Midlands.

    Earlier this year Herefordshire Council issued dangerous wild animal licences for three zebras and two vipers. 

    Clive Longstaff, who manages an aquatics and reptile shop in Worcester, says people often don't look after exotic pets, with many ending up abandoned.

    Police have confirmed they were called to an incident in Bewdley yesterday afternoon which involved a man in possession of two axes. 

    Firearms officers were called as additional support and arrived at an address on Load Street yesterday afternoon around 16:40.

    Police say the man had two axes which remained within the property throughout the incident and there was no evidence to suggest these "posed a risk to the wider community".

    Supt Kevin Purcell said: "We were made aware of reports concerning a vulnerable man who was threatening to harm himself".

    Pat Hemming's 32-year-long tenure as a lollipop lady is to come to an end after Worcestershire County Council told her the service she provides is no longer needed. 

    Pat's worried that without someone to watch children crossing on their way to school, their safety could be at risk.

  10. Kidderminster Hospital psychiatric ward to closepublished at 11:03 BST 20 October 2016

    A psychiatric ward at Kidderminster Hospital is to close next month, with patients being relocated to Worcester and Redditch.

    Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust says the decision to close the Harvington Ward follows a consultation, which has opted for more community-based treatment, meaning fewer beds for mental health patients will be needed.

    More than £1m could be spent buying farm land and a private garden to make sure that Hereford's controversial southern link road goes ahead. 

    Today the council's cabinet will discuss plans to compulsory purchase land from five different farms and a residential garden so that work on the road between the A49 and the A465 can begin.

    Land on farms rented from the council is also affected and private homes next to the planned road could also be bought in future months. 

    The council granted themselves planning permission for the road in June.

    Police say an incident in Bewdley, which saw armed officers deployed in the town, involved a man with two axes. 

    People were told to stay indoors yesterday evening, with some locked into a local supermarket, as armed officers were called to a flat in Load Street.

    West Mercia Police say they were called to the town at 16:40 due to "concerns for the welfare of an individual ".

    There was "no risk to the public", police say, and they are appealing for the man involved to contact them to ensure that he is safe and well.
