  10. Reading and Leeds - the weekend that seriously rockedpublished at 19:58

    A heavy highlight from 2015

We take our festivals very seriously at the BBC - but we don't believe you need to get muddy and get sweaty (or soaked) in a field to enjoy them.

There's plenty of best bits, including highlights from headliners Mumford and Sons, Metallica and The Libertines, that you can still enjoy on the BBC Reading and Leeds homepage, but if you want our connoisseurs' opnion, give Mercury Prize shortlisted Wolf Alice a play - and get your headbang on.

  11. Throwback Thursday: Gregory Porterpublished at 19:57

Gregory Porter is blessed with such a glorious, smooth voice, it makes total sense that the singer was asked to perform not one, but two songs at the 2014 BBC Music Awards. Enjoy them below - glass of 'liquid spirit' optional.

Wonder why everyone loves Adele? Check out this amazing interview

Anyone fearing that the unprecedented success of second album 21 had changed Adele could breathe a sign of relief once they heard her open up to Grimmy on Radio 1 about her nerves in the lead-up to releasing the record breaking new LP 25.

Listen to their chat on the BBC News website, and find out more of our favourite interviews of 2015.

  13. Relive the Last Night of the Promspublished at 19:54

Get your flags out in honour of our most regal music highlight of the year

On one night, a nation is reunited by classic classical numbers, more experimental and new arrangements... and the waving of flags - it could only be the Last Night of the Proms.

This year, we held events in Belfast, Swansea, Glasgow, Hyde Park and the Royal Albert Hall. In the latter, returning conductor Marin Alsop took to selfie-taking with aplomb, while tenor Jonas Kaufmann found himself the unsuspecting recipient of an enthusiastic audience member's undies!

Take a look back at the action with our live coverage of all five events

  14. Birmingham's music legacy: UB40published at 19:53

International reggae superstars UB40 were born at the end of 1978 and would go on to release more than 50 singles in nearly 30 years, with record sales in excess of 70 million.

In 2008, singer Ali Campbell and his band mates Astro and Micky Virtue left the band, forming their own group. Campbell's brother Duncan picked up lead vocal duties in his absence. A decision on who has the right to perform under the UB40 name has not yet been reached.

  15. International Artist of the Year nominee: Hozierpublished at 19:50

Irish musician Hozier may just have had the most covered song of the year in modern classic Take Me to Church, the kind of usual record that can be played on BBC Radio 1, 2 or 6 Music and not sound out of place - or middle of the road.

    Media caption,

Hozier performs Take me to Church at the 2014 Glastonbury Festival

His debut self-titled album, with follow-up singles Something New and From Eden, prove that Andrew Hozier-Byrne is anything but a one-hit-wonder. He’s also made serious waves Stateside, with performances on Saturday Night Live and David Letterman. And now the world awaits his next musical move…No pressure, Hozier!

  16. Song of the Year nominee: Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Marspublished at 19:48

Mark Ronson’s addictive hit Uptown Funk is one of the most played songs of the year. Loved by pretty much everyone, it never fails to get a room on its feet.

  17. Song of the Year nominees: Bloodstream - Ed Sheeranpublished at 19:47

To see Ed Sheeran play his nominated song live is to see him at his best; he builds the whole track with just his voice, guitar and a humble loop pedal - a skill that’s seen him grace Wembley Arena’s legendary stage for three consecutive nights and the BBC Radio Theatre for a Radio 2 in Concert special.

To show how great a song it is, take a look at Kwabs and Stormzy giving it a soulful take in Radio 1’s Live Lounge earlier this year.

  19. Song of the Year nominee: Hold My Hand - Jess Glynnepublished at 19:44

Jess Glynne had already scored Number One records with Clean Bandit and Route 94 before this year, but 2015 saw her pick up her first (of two) solo chart toppers - Hold My Hand and Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself -  proving her serious songwriting credentials, and her incredible vocal range.
