  1. Song of the Year: See You Again - Wiz Khalifa (feat. Charlie Puth)published at 19:41

Rapper Wiz Khalifa teamed up with rising star Charlie Puth for this emotional tribute to the late Fast and Furious star Paul Walker, which featured on the Furious 7 soundtrack. Incredibly, the music video for the song has been viewed over 1.2 billion times on YouTube.

You can watch Sigala and Craig David cover the track in Radio 1Xtra’s Live Lounge by hitting play on the following clip…

  2. BBC Live Peformance of the Year nominee: Adele at the BBCpublished at 19:40

Our most recent nominated live appearance comes from the world’s most popular performer, Adele. She lit up BBC One with her music - and her infectious laugh - as she joined Graham Norton to perform albums from all three of her albums, including the record breaking 25.

And better still, you can still watch the spectacular show on iPlayer.

  3. Song of the Year nominee: Want to Want Me - Jason Derulopublished at 19:39

Jason Derulo’s upbeat hit Want to Want Me became his fourth Number One earlier this year, spending an impressive four weeks in the coveted top spot. Memorably Little Mix gave the hit a gospel twist (and a Whitney Houston song cameo) in Radio 1’s Live Lounge - and it’s almost certain Derulo approved; he pops up on their latest album, Get Weird.

  4. Take T in the Park with uspublished at 19:38

Go back to the castle for one of our favourite festivals of 2015

Strathallan Castle played host to the biggest festival Scotland has to offer - T in the Park - and we were there to feast on its glory. Kasabian, Avicii and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds took top billing over the three day event back in July, and we've got loads of amazing performances for you to enjoy on YouTube, external.

  5. International Artist of the Year nominee: The Weekndpublished at 19:35

If we were curious about mysterious solo artist Abel Makkonen Tesfaye before 2015, during it, we became obsessed. It was Tesfaye’s irresistible hit Earned It, a song which managed to transcend its status as a soundtrack tune for the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey to bonafide chart hit in its own right, that was a breakthrough moment for the young artist.

From the dark, seductive sound of The Hills, to the Michael Jackson-esque song of the summer Can’t Feel My Face, The Weeknd has arrived and we never want him to finish.

  6. BBC Live Performance of the Year nominee: Lionel Richie at Glastonburypublished at 19:33

We all know Lionel Richie is a dab hand with writing a tune and doing it justice with his smooth, soulful voice - but who knew he could work a crowd packed with over 100,000 Glastonbury revellers, and do it in such style? Richie played hit after hit to his adoring fans - and clearly earned some new ones in the process. What a legend.

  7. Song of the Year nominee: Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn remix) - OMIpublished at 19:32

It’s been eight years since OMI (known to his mum as Omar Pasley) first hummed the tune for his global smash to himself - and another three since he released it in his native Jamaica. But playing the long game has paid off for the singer - he went global with the song after Felix Jaehn remixed the track in 2014, and topped the UK and US charts this year.

  8. International Artist of the Year nominee: Foo Fighterspublished at 19:31

The Foo Fighters were always going to have an advantage in the international field due to being fronted by the coolest man in rock, Dave Grohl. (Evidence here.) They set pulses racing purely by announcing they’d be making a special appearance at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Norwich - before blasting their audience into awestruck submission.

    Media caption,

The band released their eighth studio album back in November 2014, with an accompanying eight part documentary shown on BBC Four that saw the band explore the musical heritage of eight different US cities. Let’s hope their next album sees them do the same on our shores…

  9. Song of the Year nominee: Lean On - Major Lazer (feat. MØ & DJ Snake)published at 19:30

Super producers Major Lazer got together with DJ Snake and Danish singer MØ to collaborate on what would become one of the most popular songs of the year. Billboard reports that streaming service Spotify played a huge part in its success, external

What we can say for sure is that Lean On is well and truly a banger - and this is made even more plain by the spectacular version performed by The Maccabees in Radio 1’s Live Lounge earlier this year.

For those of you expecting music on the menu tonight from 8pm, you're very much in luck. Unfortunately, rumours Adele will be having a Bake Off against One Direction's Niall Horan are very much exaggerated.

  12. Song of the Year nominee: Take Me to Churchpublished at 19:26

Although originally released in 2013, Hozier shot to global fame with his brooding take on religion at the end of 2014 - and it’s not left the radio airwaves ever since, particularly due to its popularity with other singers, who have been enthusiastic with their cover versions (including Demi Lovato, external).

  14. International Artist of the Year nominee: Princepublished at 19:23

Last year Prince released not one, but two albums - Plectrumelectum and Art Official Age. Now, fresh from releasing latest record HITNRUN exclusively on Jay-Z’s Tidal streaming service, he has taken his piano on a solo tour, apparently to ‘challenge himself’, external due to his habit of picking up good reviews when backed by a band.

2015 is also the year that saw the launch of PRINCETAGRAM, external. Because if anyone can rename one of the world’s most popular social sharing sites, it’s Prince.

  15. BBC Live Performance of the Year nominee: Jeff Lynne’s ELO, Radio 2 in Concertpublished at 19:21

To celebrate the release of their first new material in 15 years, Jeff Lynne’s ELO came to perform at the BBC Radio Theatre. What followed was pure magic, as the band and an orchestra cast a spell on the (incredibly lucky) waiting audience.

Don’t miss out; catch the concert in full on BBC iPlayer now.

  16. Song of the Year nominee: Love Me Like You Do - Ellie Gouldingpublished at 19:19

Ellie Goulding had one of the biggest hits of the year with this sweeping, epic love song, originally composed for the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack. Despite first being heard at the start of the year, the song still feels as fresh as ever.

Up-and-coming solo artist RHODES gave the track an ethereal spin in Radio 1’s Live Lounge in September - hear his take in the clip below.

It’s been over a year since Taylor Swift released the first ‘non-country’ album of her career, and the influence of this gargantuan pop record, 1989, has been felt around the world; Swift is the singer that truly made pure pop music cool again.
