Goggia is in bronze for now, what a way to come back after that crash for her great friend Lindsey Vonn.

There will be a new champion.

Switzerland's Corinne Suter, who won downhill gold four years ago, doesn't have the best run and she finishes 1.91 seconds behind the current leader Breezy Johnson.

I had Vonn down for a medal. I would have done the exact same thing in Vonn's position, I would have raced.

It can be done, she was doing it, she was fast in training, she took the risk and it didn't pay off.

    Let's hope Vonn is OK.

It might seem slightly harsh sending the athletes straight out after Lindsey Vonn's crash, but as the day progresses the warmer temperatures means the course gets more dangerous.

After a 20 minute wait, the course hold is over.

Austria's Mirjam Puchner has the difficult task of being the first to go after Lindsey Vonn's crash.

She makes it safely down, moving into ninth place.

If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. Mad bravery & determination for Vonn to even give it a go on one knee. If this is it for her, congrats on a fabulous career.

    Alpine skiing - women's downhill

It's got to be distressing for all the downhill athletes - to those at the top of the slope and to those that have already made it down.

Lindsey Vonn is a superstar of the sport and this casts a dark shadow on the whole event.

This sport is tough and you are pushing yourself to your limit at speed. We have a standing ovation now as the helicopter goes.

The camera has just panned to Lindsey Vonn's friend Sofia Goggia, who was meant to be taking to the course shortly after.

Goggia is sat and looks to be getting herself back into race mode.

Breezy Johnson will not be enjoying sitting in that [gold medal] chair, we all know what Lindsey has done to our sport. Lindsey was an early bib number and the temperature is increasing so the later athletes will be taking a big risk.

It means the surface wont be as constant and the trust in the ski won't be as good.

This is hard to watch. Lindsey Vonn has been airlifted on a stretcher and taken away by the helicopter - most likely to a nearby hospital.

    Let's hope she's all right.

It's such a shame. She's proved that anything in life is possible, but this is the worst way anyone would want to bow out of their sport!

The helicopter has just arrived. It looks like Lindsey Vonn is going to be airlifted off the piste, pretty normal under the circumstances.

There was silence after that crash. People seriously concerned.

What a horrible way for this all to end for the iconic American.

I feel guilty that I am this emotional. I just never believed it would end in a clump at the side of the piste, not moving. What we saw that the top of the piste is really hard for a fit athlete, she just had her right knee. It is brutal, think about her family, her team and herself.

We have to be realistic. The risk was really high, the risk she takes when she falls will double that, her body will not be able to take that. There is clapping and there is hope that she would be okay but they have put up some background music because it is uncomfortable.

Former British downhill skier Chemmy Alcott, who raced alongside Lindsey Vonn is - understandably - very emotional on BBC Two as she reacts to the American's crash.

They have managed to get one of her skis off. They are very difficult to get off and in a position like that it is not easy. We will have a course hold. She is in a lot of pain there. A lot of pain.
